Nigella, also known as 'devil-in-a-bush' or 'love in a mist'.

Nigella damascena has been grown in English cottage gardens since Elizabethan times.

For many years 'Miss Jekyll' was the only widely available variety, and it is still popular for its dependable masses of sky-blue flowers.

‘When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it's your world for the moment.

I want to give that world to someone else. Most people in the city rush around so, they have no time to look at a flower.

I want them to see it whether they want to or not.’

Georgia O'Keeffe quote (American Painter, 1887-1986)

A true blue or purple is not so common in the flower world and not easy to photograph well...

A tritanium mining outpost simply called ‘The Colony’ has been established on Aries IV, a Mars-like planet at the edge of Federation space. The surface of Aries IV is deadly without a spacesuit.

Harsh conditions make mining in this world a dangerous prospect. The workers of the colony voluntarily put themselves at risk to produce a critical resource for the Federation. But, a recent incursion into Federation space by pirates meant the loss of much-needed supplies intended for the colony – including a seismic stabilizer. Without this, the number of quakes rocking the planet will continue to increase, leading to the collapse of mines and loss of personnel.

“The Kingdom of Heaven,” says Jesus, “is like unto ten virgins who went forth to meet a bridegroom and his bride.” [Matthew 25:1.] The parable of the ten virgins tells us what the life of the Christian—and the life of the Church—must be in the present world. The sacramental illumination of Baptism has enkindled the lamp of our being, the pneuma. But our life is still a life of waiting in darkness.

Captured on my early morning walk on Saturday before the rain returned, one has to make the most of the good weather. I love dramatic skies with lots of clouds and storms but sometimes it's just good to appreciate a plain blue cloud-free calm sky reflected in the water.

Lovely red Dahlia taken a while ago. Have a great day.

Simply red - Stormclouds gather above the Torridon Mountains with the iconic and standout red roofed cottage sitting amongst the bracken and ferns on the shores of Loch Shieldaig.

Located on the Applecross Peninsula, this now iconic and often photographed cottage lies between the hamlets of Ardheslaig and Inverbain. The mountains in the distance, with the weather closing in, surround Upper Loch Torridon.
