The concept of "Red sky at night, shepherd's delight. Red sky in the morning, shepherd's warning" first appears in the Bible in the book of Matthew. It is an old weather saying often used at sunrise and sunset to signify the changing sky and was originally known to help the shepherds prepare for the next day's weather.
Despite there being global variations in this saying such as "Red sky at night, sailors delight. Red sky in morning, sailors warning", the scientific understanding behind such occurrences remains the same.
Why does a red sky appear at sunrise and sunset? The saying is most reliable when weather systems predominantly come from the west as they do in the UK. "Red sky at night, shepherds delight" can often be proven true, since red sky at night means fair weather is generally headed towards you.
A red sky appears when dust and small particles are trapped in the atmosphere by high pressure. This scatters blue light leaving only red light to give the sky its notable appearance.
A red sky at sunset means high pressure is moving in from the west, so therefore the next day will usually be dry and pleasant. "Red sky in the morning, shepherds warning" means a red sky appears due to the high-pressure weather system having already moved east meaning the good weather has passed, most likely making way for a wet and windy low-pressure system.

Anemone flowers are wildflowers that grow in many parts of Europe, North America and Japan. The name anemone is derived from Greek which means “windflower.” The name comes from the fact that the delicate flowers are blown open by the wind, which in turn blows away the dead petals as well. [...].
The most significant anemone flower meaning is anticipation. This is because the anemone flowers close up at night and open back up in the morning. Due to its wild nature, the flower specifically symbolizes relaxation and serves as a reminder to enjoy the moment in order to take in opportunities at the right time. According to the Victorian language of flowers, anemone flowers also signify fragility.
Purple anemone flowers symbolize protection from evil.

It was a delight watching this fledgling Burrowing Owl as he climbed out of the underground burrow and investigated the surrounding area.
The Burrowing Owl is a small, long-legged owl found throughout open landscapes of North and South America.
Burrowing owls can be found in grasslands, rangelands, agricultural areas, deserts, or any other open dry area with low vegetation. They nest and roost in burrows, such as those excavated by prairie dogs.
They are small, sandy colored owls with bright-yellow eyes. They live underground in burrows they’ve dug themselves or taken over from a prairie dog, ground squirrel, or tortoise.
They live in grasslands, deserts, and other open habitats, where they hunt mainly insects and rodents.
Before laying eggs, Burrowing Owls carpet the entrances to their homes with animal dung, which attracts dung beetles and other insects that the owls then catch and eat. They may also collect bottle caps, metal foil, cigarette butts, paper scraps, and other bits of trash at the entrance, possibly signifying that the burrow is occupied.
Burrowing Owls have a higher tolerance for carbon dioxide than other birds—an adaptation found in other burrowing animals, which spend long periods underground, where the gas can accumulate to higher levels than found above ground.
Unlike most owls in which the female is larger than the male, the sexes of the Burrowing Owl are the same size.
Burrowing Owls often stow extra food to ensure an adequate supply during incubation and brooding. When food is plentiful, the birds' underground larders can reach prodigious sizes.
The oldest known Burrowing Owl was at least 9 years, 11 months old when it was sighted in California in 2014.

According to the theory or lore, mainly black "woolly bear" worms predict a harsher winter. A mostly brown worm signifies a milder winter. If brown at the head with more black near the tail, it means a winter that starts mild and ends harshly. After having a good look at this fuzzy woolly worm while was sleeping, I noted that he/she had a big brown band on the middle. So according with this weather worm, we're going to have a moderate winter in Pennsylvania. This worm is the caterpillar of the Isabella tiger moth and good that it wasn't a bear that I found! 😊

Winter, Day 43...
I have a photo of this wee tree in front of the old dry stone dyke, from two years ago - I think it was taken on the 4/5 February, 2017. On that day, there is a field of bright green green grass. Two years on, a big snow field. I’m not sure which I prefer, but I really love this view.
Here, I had come down my track on the quad bike, to pick up the car near the bottom of the hill, to go for some shopping. This is, maybe, about 600ft down from my house and there is still quite a covering of snow.
I had to take this shot because a song came immediately to mind when I saw it ... Sorry - it’s an English teacher thing 😃
“And the signifieds butt heads
With the signifiers,
And we all fall down slack-jawed
To marvel at words!
...Then we do what we have to do

Which is all that you can do
On this side of the blue.”

The meaning of the yellow rose is 'Friendship, joy and gladness' The rose and its bud, are close, the bubbles of happiness surrounding, to me, signify joy.
And I hear a voice, all at once a voice that speaks to me
And it makes me so afraid, it's scaring me
But this inner noise signifies my choice, appears to be not binary
I am confused, no longer myself, everything modified
Yesterday's gone, a dawn without help, carry me please!
Thoughts in my head to confuse my eyes
It's like a firework of lights
They colour my core with currents of signs
An unleashed power energized
A conversion from inside like a woken butterfly, I received it
[buried deep a long, long time
Now I'm able to decide, self-determined not denied, I believe it
[buried deep a long, long time]
[Learned, voice in my head
[Wise, fragments widespread
[Learned, voice in my head
[Wise, fragments widespread]
Finally learned from the voice in my head
Consciously run on my own
Wisely assembled from fragments widespread
Modified, widened and grown
Now i'm unbound, no rules edge my game, no limits to satisfy
The voices are loud, no silence remains, shelter me, please!
Thoughts in my head to confuse my eyes
It's like a firework of lights
They colour my core with currents of signs
An unleashed power energized

Europe, Spain, Valencia, Buildings, Fallera, Ninots, People (uncut)
In Valencia, the Fallas season has started again Like shown here in 2018. The ninot sculpture-groups are being placed and every day there are fireworks.
The Fallera has pagan origins (celebrating the beginning of spring). Later, wood shavings became giant sculptures (ninots) and were used to portray the ’shame of the neighbourhood in the early years of the Fallera. They now portray ’the shame of the media’ - dignitaries and/or figures of authority are ridiculed. Fairy tale characters and ones from the gaming world are used to contextualize. The end of the festival is the ‘crema’ - where the ninots are burned. It signifies the burning of memories or incidents that collectively must be forgotten.
The festival was banned during the Civil War. And it’s back in full force for decades now and is still satirical, sometimes sexist, and now also reflects global events and popular mass culture. Behind the production of the ninots are large community groups (every Valencian quarter has a few - the two people in interaction, clad in grey and right in front of the sculpture group are members). After the placement and the arranging of the ninots (cranes are often involved) sometimes the last phase of production is handled on-site - the actual painting of the ninots.
This is number 37 of the Valencia! album.
Every bell ringers dreads dropping a clanger particularly those on their bell!
(A word of explanation to those whose first language is not British English. To ‘drop a clanger’ is an expression used to signify that you have made a big mistake! Once very popular now seldom heard.)

Water is the Essence of Life. No living thing can survive very long without it. It is incredibly old. We have the same rain as the ancients did and before their existence. It signifies the power to purify, to give deliverance, and it can also destroy evil and enemies in flood as in the Biblical stories. It is awesome as it is kind. It is benign, it is malignant, for we live or die without it. What a miraculous thing it is, it can engulf you but you cannot hold it in the palm of your hand. It can scold you, it can freeze you, it can inspire and frighten in the very next breath. I will always respect it in its many forms.

For the Saturday challenge "Over-processed clouds"
Clouds are a big part of every day here ... the skies are huge and dominate everything. You can tell the weather by the clouds, as well as being mystified and delighted by effects you haven't seen before. We enjoy sunrise in the front garden, and sunset in the back garden .. so I often grab a camera to catch a cloud effect before it passes. My latest obsession is lenticular clouds, which I've seen for years, but never knew their name or what they might signify. So I took this recent evening shot with the setting sun and lenticular clouds as my choice for this challenge. Then I decided to play with the colours of the Northern Lights (aurora borealis) in Photoshop.
The original shot is in the first comment field.

Castel Sant'Angelo is a Roman monument located on the right bank of the Tiber River, a short distance from the Vatican City.
Initiated by the Emperor Hadrian in AD 135 for his personal and family mausoleum was completed by Antoninus Pius in 139. The monument, built with travertine stone, she was adorned by a bronze chariot led by the Emperor Hadrian. Soon the building changed use and became a military building.
The current name of the castle comes from 590, during a plague epidemic that struck the city of Rome. The pope at the time, Gregory I saw the Archangel Michael, on top of the castle that sheathed his sword signifying the end of the epidemic. To commemorate the apparition, a statue of an angel crown the building (first a marble statue of Raffaello da Montelupo, and since 1753 a bronze Pierre van Verschaffelt on a drawing of Bernini).

Pachamama is usually translated as Mother Earth, but a more literal translation would be "World Mother" (in Aymara and Quechua).
The Inca goddess can be referred to in multiple ways; the primary way being Pachamama. Other names for her are: Mama Pacha, La Pachamama, and Mother Earth.
La Pachamama differs from Pachamama because the "La" signifies the interwoven connection that the goddess has with nature, whereas Pachamama – without the "La" – refers to only the goddess.
The birds in this piece signify true love. The freedom to fly free, be yourself, soar. But you always return to the one you truly love.

AMSTERDAM LIGHT FESTIVAL - In the old days, blowing dandelion seeds into the air was also done as a superstitious act: the number of seeds that remained signified the number of years you had to wait to get married, how many children you would have with your loved one, or how many years you still had to live. Windmills have been a feature of Brill since at least the 13th century. Two fields adjacent to the Thame road are named Milldene and Millpiece, signifying connections with the earliest siting of windmills in Brill around 1250.
The present windmill on Brill Common was probably erected sometime in the 1680s. Although not quite the oldest windmill in England, it is one of the best preserved of the dozen or so 17th century 'post-mills' still standing. (Pitstone Windmill, also in Buckinghamshire, was built in 1627 and is believed to be the oldest windmill in Britain.) A post-mill is a mill in which the whole structure revolves around a central post in order to face the wind.
When Brill windmill last operated it was working two sets of stones; a pair of French burr stones for milling wheat, and a pair of peak stones (Derbyshire millstone grit) for milling barley. When operative, the mill had four sails, each 27 feet (9m) long and 5 feet (1.5m) wide. Since construction, the mill has probably been operated by only six millers.
Brill's last miller was Mr. Albert Nixey. Mr. Nixey last milled flour in 1919, but continued to grind barley for cattle food for a further four years. The new roller mills (the first opening in Glasgow in 1872) could produce 7,000lbs (about 3,200kgs) of bread flour per man hour, compared to 180lbs (81kgs) produced by a windmill such as that in Brill.

Sunsets have much meaning. They signify endings, change, and transformation and remind us that change is part of life and everything has an end.
Cirrocumulus is one of the three main genus-types of high-altitude tropospheric clouds, the other two being cirrus and cirrostratus. They usually occur at an altitude of 5 kilometres to 12 kilometres. Like lower altitude cumuliform and stratocumuliform clouds, cirrocumulus signifies convection. Unlike other high-altitude-tropospheric clouds like cirrus and cirrostratus, cirrocumulus includes a small amount of liquid water droplets, although these are in a supercooled state. Ice crystals are the predominant component, and typically, the ice crystals cause the supercooled water drops in the cloud to rapidly freeze, transforming the cirrocumulus into cirrostratus. This process can also produce precipitation in the form of a virga consisting of ice or snow. Thus cirrocumulus clouds are usually short-lived. They usually only form as part of a short-lived transitional phase within an area of cirrus clouds and can also form briefly as a result of the breaking up of part of a cumulonimbus anvil. Properly, the term cirrocumulus refers to each cloud, but is typically also used to refer to an entire patch of cirrocumulus. When used in this way, each cirrocumulus element is referred to as a 'cloudlet'. 21758
