Commencement of the 5th Batch of the DBE Program
The 5th Batch of the Blended Program on Developing Business Excellence (DBE) – With a Sense of Social Responsibility for overseas students studying in India to understand India’s business environment, consumer behaviour, cultural background, and corporate environment. The program is known for sensitizing students from overseas who visit India for educational purposes about the ethics and social relevance of the Indian business environment.
The 5th Batch has attracted 27 students from 10 Countries - Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Jordan, Yemen, Nigeria, Cambodia, Tajikistan, Sudan, Guinea, and Uganda.
Inaugurating the 5th Batch of the DBE program Dr Mousumi Sengupta, Chairperson - Academic Enhancement Committee and Professor - OB/HR, SDMIMD, said, ‘The 10-hour program aims to give overall exposure to diverse aspects Indian business environment. The program introduces the culture, ethics, leadership, consumer behaviour, social responsibility, corporate culture, and Indian family business. The course content is framed and offered by highly accomplished faculty members in the respective area.'
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sunil M.V., Faculty Coordinator of the DBE Program and Assistant Professor - Systems and General Management, SDMIMD, Mysore, said, 'It is a much-needed initiative by both SDMIMD and the University of Mysore to sensitize foreign students about India and its rich culture. Students will be receiving Degrees in their domain, but it's our responsibility to enhance their knowledge about India and its inclusiveness in different dimensions.'

Ms. Poornima Srihari, Senior Delivery Manager, Infosys Limited, addressed the students of PGDM 2023-252 batch and gave an insightful talk on how Infosys founders joined hands and built the company from scratch in 1981, which has become a NYSE listed global Consulting and IT services company today. She has given an insider view of work culture, business ethics, professional outlook towards all stakeholders, Challenges and opportunities at Infosys ltd.
Ms. Harshita, from Talent acquisition department, highlighted various roles available for Management graduates in Infosys Limited and Infosys BPM and explained the growth path for Management trainees/Associate consultants in Infosys.
It was organized as part of the orientation program for the PGDM 2023-25 batch on July 13, 2023.
A highly informative and engaging guest talk on the importance of Business Analytics for today’s management scenario was delivered by Dr. Siamak Zadeh on 14th July 2023 in online mode. Dr. Siamak is a Professor & Data Scientist and Director of Data Analytics at the Ageno School of Business & Undergraduate Studies, Golden Gate University, San Francisco. In his talk, he delved into the key aspects of analytics, emphasizing its significance in the current world of big data and its transformative impact on organizations.
The audience gained valuable insights into the analytics process and its systematic approach. From data collection and cleansing to data analysis and interpretation, the talk highlighted the importance of a well-structured analytics workflow. Dr. Siamak shared real-world examples of how analytics has empowered organizations to derive value from their data and how it has led to improved efficiency, better customer insights, cost optimization, and enhanced overall performance.
Prof. C.V. Sridhar, Faculty – General Management and Manager - Administration, SDMIMD, conducted a workshop for the sections of the PGDM 2023-2025 between July 10 and July 12, 2023, as part of the Orientation Program 2023. The workshop focused on sensitizing the young manager toward their responsibility for society and introducing them to the social-centric philosophy of Dharmasthala.

It was a knowledge & experience sharing, synergy meeting, and fun & exciting- day for SDMIMD's new batch of PGDM 2023-25 Batch on the 'Alumni Day' organized as part of the Orientation Program 2023. SDM Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) organized this synergy meeting between the new students and the alumni members on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at its campus near the foothill of Chamundi. The talk has been organized as part of the Orientation Program for PGDM 2023-25 batch.
Noted columnist, entrepreneur, angel investor, CEO of Aim High and alumnus of the institute, Mr N. Ravi Shankar, in his talk on 'MBA Na Milega Dubara' said, "Two years later, you will walk into a very complex world, further compounded by AI (Artificial Intelligence) and ML (Machine Learning). One needs to combine our learnings and skill creatively to thrive in a world like that. We need to operate with confidence that whilst. AI can organize and retrieve data and information better than us (human beings), 'Knowledge' and 'Wisdom' are still in the human domain". The message from the speaker to the new batch is to enjoy learning, explore new skills, and enrich themselves to be ready for the corporate world.
A full day Soft skills workshop conducted for 38 newly appointed Motor Vehicle Inspectors at Karnataka Police Academy, Mysore on 12th June 2023.
The programme was inaugurated by DSP Mr. Venkatesh - Assistant Director- Karnataka Police Academy which was followed by various sessions conducted by SDMIMD faculty resource persons on different soft skills.
Mr. Prasad S N Co-Founder of GREWIND – e-commerce initiative for selling ecofriendly products, gave an informative talk during the first-year orientation program on July 19, 2023. His talk focused on social entrepreneurship, the challenges faced by entrepreneurs, and the need for entrepreneurial skills for management professionals. Further, he insisted on avoiding plastics and using eco-friendly products to control pollution and save the environment. Later, students asked questions and interacted with Mr. Prasad to clarify their doubts regarding the risks faced in
entrepreneurship.
On May 31, 2024, SDMIMD, Mysore, hosted a successful Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on "Innovative Teaching Methods." 🌟 Academicians from across India participated actively in this event. Dr. SN Prasad, Director of SDMIMD, inaugurated the FDP, highlighting the importance of creativity and modern tools in teaching. Dr. Nanda Kishore Shetty, the FDP/MDP Chairperson, oversaw the event. Esteemed faculty members Dr. Mousumi Sengupta and Dr. Sunil MV led insightful sessions on various innovative teaching methods and AI in education. SDMIMD has collaborated with BI Norwegian Business School researchers on an international research project on ‘Whistleblowing: an annotated global bibliography’. It is a core part of the AFINO – project, (Responsible Research and Innovation in Norway) work package 6, led by Dr. Kristian and Dr Heidi, supported by the Norwegian Research Council 2019-2024, focusing on topics related to CSR, corporate governance and whistleblowing.
SDMIMD research team, comprising of Dr. Mousumi Sengupta, Professor - OB and HRM (Principal Contributor), Dr. Sunil MV, Assistant Professor - General Management (Co-contributor) and Student contributors, Druva N, Taha Dhilawala, Yashwanth, and Kaydawala Saifuddin, has collaborated in the project and contributed Indian Bibliography on whistleblowing.
The aim of the research is to create a compilation of the various single language-based annotated bibliographies as well as to analyse the collected materials across all said bibliographies. Currently the project is consisting of 20 partners, from several countries.
The work completed by the SDMIMD team has been highly appreciated and the SDMIMD team has received an appreciation letter towards that effect.

SDMIMD's report titled "Human Capital in Karnataka: An outlook of new age skill imperatives for the new age workforce" was released by the Chief Minister of Karnataka Sri. Basavaraj Bommai and Dr.C.N.Ashwathnarayan, Minister for Skill Development, GOK, in the presence of industry stalwarts on August 5th.
Prof. Parashiva Murthy, Professor & Counsellor, Mysore delivered a talk on 'Positive Thinking' to the newly joined students of the PGDM 2023-25 batch as a part of the orientation program on July 11. 2023. He narrated that positive thinking would make people successful in their chosen fields. "Hurdles in life are normal and one should not be deterred by failure as it is the stepping stone to success", said the speaker. He advised the students to adhere to values and build self-confidence as it is going to be pivotal in personal and family life. Prof.Murthy concluded by saying, "Winners make it happen, Losers let it happen".
The IT Panel of CII, Mysuru had organized a Stakeholders Interaction on E-Waste Management at SDMIMD on 21 June 2019. The objective of the meeting was to advocate the safe disposal of e-waste and to devise an efficient and sustainable model for management of the e-waste generated in Mysuru.
Mr. Niranjan N Naik, President, Prerana - SDMIMD Alumni Association; and Senior Consultant - Prominent Minds and Bosch, introduced the objective and activities of the association to the new students and called upon to join the online portal to interact with nearly 3000 alumni members spread across the world. He said, 'in today's VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity) world Network is Net Worth. Young managers should look beyond social media for networking and start interacting in the physical world'. Mr. Kumarpal M Jain, Katariya Consultancy India LLP, Mysore, member of “Institute of Chartered, Accountants of India”, delivered a talk for first-year students of PGDM 2023–25 batch, held on July 11, 2023, as part of the Orientation Program 2023.
He set the tone of the speech by providing a glimpse of what a startup firm's motto needs to be. The interactive session continued with the importance of investing in start-up firms and how to identify a suitable start-up business. Mr.Jain gave a hint that a firm that can earn 16% and above on its capital employed can be considered worth investing in. He threw light on the sustainability of businesses, saying that a start-up that wants to survive and sustain the industry must focus on expanding the customer base and retaining them by providing what exactly they want within the scope of the business by customising the services as per their needs and expectations. He concluded that, at the end of the day, a business can survive only if it is consistently profitable and focused.
