KCS 4859, the silver sausage, leads a combined LWY101 / RWY204 into the Wylie terminal on a late sunny morning. With a stretch of the Alliance Sub in Plano already being ripped up thanks to the ensuing DART Silver Line project, Kansas City Southern has resorted to routing trains up and down the White Rock Sub between Plano and Zacha Junction. The previous night, KCS 5021 led the 101 job out of Wylie before 4859 took the reigns from Zacha Junction to Alliance overnight, and trailed on the return to Zacha the following morning. 101 would meet the RWY204 at Zacha accompanied by an NS AC44C6M, an NS SD70IAC, and two KCS SD22ECOs. 4859 and 5021 would combine their 101 with the 204, thus voiding 204’s warrant, and giving 4859 the reigns back to Wylie. After previously seeing the safety unit trailing on two separate occasions, it was nice to finally see it a third time, this time in the lead spot

The lead unit on 27G is quite interesting, on the outside, the engine is designated as an SD70ACe. However, the builders plate on the inside has the designation as SD70IAC (IAC stands for Individual Axle Control). These units also have 200 more horsepower and can meet Tier 3 emissions standards, unlike the 1000-1174 numbered SD70ACe's, which have 4,300 horsepower and can only meet Tier 2 emissions.
