Saps at Sea Tent, Proudly Present:
LAUREL AND HARDY – JUST ONE MORE TEENSY-WEENSY NIGHT!
Welcome back All Saps! To our second, 39th Anniversary Year Gathering of Marvelous Movie Delights and Humorous Hijinks!
Here your Grandest of Sheiks has assembled a night you will not soon forget. We have a "Special" Guest author in attendance, Mr. Craig Calman. Author of "100 Years of Brodies with Hal Roach: The Jaunty Journeys of a Hollywood Motion Picture and Television Pioneer". A loving look at the man responsible for being the boss of Stan and Ollie, and bringing to us those wonderful Comedy Classics we enjoy each and every meeting. I will interview Craig and he will share great stories and anecdotes. You can also purchase his fine book and have it autographed for a measly $30!
Our special program is JUST ONE MORE TEENSY-WEENSY.... Stan & Ollie and Alcohol, rarely mix. In this case hilariously so! You will see a glass lifting CartOOn, then what happens when you mix two vagrants, a mad Judge that wants them out of town, a drunken benefactor (The always inebriated Arthur Housman) and a tipsy Woman.... everything, in SCRAM! (1932) Then our guest comedian, Red Skelton, provides a demonstration of the wonders of Guzzler's Gin. After a tasty (Alcohol free) intermission, we will watch the recently restored BLOTTO (1930). Stan and Babe decide a night on the town is in order. Off to a Nightclub they go with some Prohibition Booze...they think. What happens when Stan's wife (Anita Garvin) gets a little suspicious? Come see in this evening of .... (Hick) sobriety. Oh yes, there will also be a few surprisses, I mean, surprises .... ah heck, just come and see. March 25th at Williams Hall next to the Trinity Church.

We visited Carrack-A-Reed a couple of weeks ago which I just absolutely loved and I am not going to say any more about as I have other photos that I want to put up which have my usual stories attached to them.
Being Spring its breeding time and of course the cliff tops become a battle ground for the best spots.
Gull was sat there enjoying the sunshine when two pigeons landed in front of her (think its a girl!).
Whilst one pigeon did a little distracting dance in front of gull, the other sidled up the outcrop.
Don't know what his intention was, maybe he had plans to slide down the rock face and boot gull off the ledge!!!
But before he could put his plan into action, Gull started screeching and obviously calling them all sorts, one can imagine the kind of GullSpeak that was going on LOL.
It was only when I was processing the photo that I noticed I captured the shadow of the pigeon flying off.
Of course I am going to say better larger and if you have a moment View On Black
Izzy has been in the kitchen and made this chocolate log today. Looks great, can't wait to try it.

on the theory that maybe matey's trouble with the language comes from not being an auditory learner, cap't takes him over to look at fast and sleek boats, perfectly suited to looting the castle's treasure, then scramming.
"aurrg, matey," blustered cap't, "you'll not be walkin' the plank on this trip. but do you see yonder watercraft? it is the sort that we need you to steal for our plundering and pillaging. and it has our mascot, the shark, painted on its side."
"whew!! i thought i was a goner after my first 3 attempts at craft procurement were deep-sixed," mentally sighed matey, who vowed he would try harder to purloin the proper craft.
HTITFThursday, all
This photo was taken by my friend Dave Styfco, who I met while watching the Orange Bowl being demolished. He snapped it during the Dodgers' last spring training season in Vero Beach, FL, in March 2008. Lasorda (seated on the field) was filling in for manager Joe Torre, who was at an awards ceremony.
Dave didn't recognize the guy walking up the aisle, even after taking the photo. "He looked like any of the other old Jewish guys at the game," Dave said, "although he did yell 'scram' after I took the shot."
Lots of stackers (Again), some grainers, and a few boxes, but also some great pieces.
Anybody ready my descriptions? I always wonder..
Finally got out of the house around noon after wavering between going out, or staying in..., to drive out to one of the local yards to shoot some freights, and finally get to check out their railroad museum. Blue skies, a little wind (7MPH) and I'm guessing like 70F. Perfect day. Sorry for anyone back East who are going through extreme cold weather. The museum was really great, and I'll have to go back and spend a bit more time looking around, and maybe taking some photos/video so you guys can check it out too. Only stayed for a couple hours today.
This yard I only have a platform that's about 15 ft. wide. The first track, the trains run about 6 in. from the edge of the track, so in order for me to catch a whole car, including autoracks, is to use a super wide angle lens. I've been using this crazy wide, $140, 7Artisans 7.5mm "Fisheye" lens when I go here. Sometimes I correct the fisheye look, sometimes I don't. I did a bit of correction on today's photos. Just cropping, straightening, and lens correction. No color. Lens is fun to use, but that fisheye!!!!!!!
They're not perfect, and you'll still see distortion... Still, caught some great pieces, and had fun, and isn't that what it's all about. Getting out of the house, away from work and seeing some great art rolling by. Any day you can go out and see some art makes your life better. Get out and bench!!! Don't just look at photos online. Go out to your local tracks/yards, and hang out for a few hours. See the cars up-close, feel them in your feet, smell the brake dust in the air, and hear how loud they actually are when you're not in your car with the windows rolled up waiting to cross at the RR crossing.
Towards the end of my visit, about 25 foamers showed up like really quickly to shoot what I found out was a "Special" train rolling through today. Something to do with next week's Super Bowl. You'll see the photos in this set, it's the three 25th Anniversary engines, stickers and all, along with 10-15 silver luxury people cars. Why three engines for only 10 or so cars?? I Dunno. I have video of this line I'll upload at some point. It really was quite amazing seeing this roll through. Like 3 minutes after it was gone, there was nobody left at the rails but PasadenaSub Colin ( www.youtube.com/c/pasadenasubcolin ) and myself..
Thanks to all of the writers. Stay safe out there, both writers, and fellow benchers.

So sad I couldn't attend for personal reasons bigeyesdollshow in Amsterdam.
Nicky was so kind to pick up my goodie bag and was my lucky charm. I won this fancy dress, that scrams candlelight dinner.
Thank you so much, Nicky, for mailing my goodie bag and the dungarees.
That's to the organizer and the people who donated for the raffle and goodie bag.
Fingers crossed for better times.
The weather forecast was too dire. We had to scram. The mayor recommended everyone leave without delay. It was the right thing to do.
Notice that this shot is taken from the lefthand side of the freeway. The eastbound lanes of I-10 were cleared and then opened to westbound traffic.
This photo kind of sums up their relationships and personalities.
Mufinek - a sweet innocent (and naive) boy looking for friends who'd play with him (they won't). Flercia the Potato Girl - typical hamster-hater.

This is part of a series of 4 images that documents the interesting encounter I witnessed between an American Kestrel and a Northern Flicker--two very different species of birds. While the Kestrel repeatedly returned to the stump after hunting for grubs, the Flicker was undeterred from foraging on the stump, which the Kestrel favored as a convenient perch.
For those who missed it, the initial encounter between these two birds is captured in an earlier image posted on my photostream: See: "Scram!" American Kestrel & Northern Flicker dispute a dead tree IMG_5277
