Striped Back Scorpion

HOW COOL is this guy or gal!!!I found my first wild scorpions in my MO today during a little me time hiking a new conservation area. I was flipping rocks actually looking for lizards and snakes when I found both under one rock. As I was chasing them around from rock to rock, i lifted one up and in the dirt sleeping was this guy!! Immediate focus change! I had to get it out of the dirt and on a rock for photos. Some fancy maneuvering with some dead grass blades and it was in a good enough spot. This is the only specie of scorpion in MO. Yes, they do have a neurotoxin in that stinger, however to humans it is similar to bee stings. if you are allergic, the worse it sucks. Still, I didnt want to be stung so I kept my distance and used long twigs to get its attention. Fun thing, turns out that they can actually crawl pretty fast and I was rather surprised when it decided to run off the rock and go under neath it. All in all I ended up finding 4 of them, ranging in size ( wit tail curled up like that ) from just about 1/2" to maybe about 1 1/4" which is almost as big as they get. It would be really cool to go out to the glades at night time with a blacklight and search for some hunting, since under UV light, they glow in the dark.

3) The MM Scorpion figure USING "SuperHero Patrick"s Legs ALL the way back from the Old Spongebob Line of sets from 2011 in set 3815 "Heroic Heroes of the Deep" - this specific version of patrick only also came in keychain form so if you can find both of them, then you can use just their legs on any green hip piece and put that on the MM scorpion to complete that bottom look

4) And here's that combination from 3 - using Scorpion's adult head from 2016-2018.

But there's Another Use for those Patrick Legs

Bark Scorpion (Centruroides gracilis) - Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, Belize

While I can't say that I know a great deal about them I have always enjoyed seeing wild scorpions. I saw plenty of this species in Belize, including one right next to my strung up hammock. Centruroides is a widespread genus with about 70 species, some members of this genus are highly venomous and have caused fatalities. However, this species, C. gracilis, is downright cuddly in comparison as its not nearly as toxic as many of its congeners and is reluctant to sting. However depsite its weaker venom I wouldn't want to get stung, their venom is neurotoxic and cardiotoxic and while serious side effects are uncommon it still wouldn't be a pleasant experience. All the members I saw of this species were up off the ground on the sides of trees and palms and all were out at night with the exception of one. The individual I saw during the day was actually a small individual dragged out of its hiding place by a large katydid that it had seized. As I watched the scorpion subdued the katydid despite being about half the size, unfortunately I did not get any photos as the entire thing was happening abut 4 feet above my head on the side of a palm.

I have seen desert hairy scorpions in sidewinder burrows on several occasions and presumed they might be eating the babies. Last week I got confirmation. This one was at the front of the burrow when I first saw it but it quickly carried its prize to the back of the burrow to finish it off in privacy.

I live in the countryside and these Scorpions here 'are' home ',

indeed I shall say' this is little one in comparison with large samples even twice more. They live among the rocks and often see them peeking waiting to strike.

That 's I found almost asleep, perhaps because of the cold, and not' was difficult to 'put' pose.

Arriving at Langkawi as the morning's tropical rain storm began to ease, the US Navy sent this MH-60R from HSM-49 Scorpions to LIMA-23. The helicopter was attached to LCS-26, USS Mobile, which attended the maritime element of the event.

Panorpa communis, female.

"Description. Wingspan approx 35 mm. The scorpion-like tail is only seen in the male and is in fact its genitalia - and doesn't sting! There are three Panorpa species in Britain and all require close examination with a microscope or good hand lens to distinguish them. In males this involves looking at the ventral surface of the genital capsule and in females the ovipositor. A good close up photo of the male is often enough to see the hypovalves on top of the genital capsule.

"Similar Species. P. germanica has thickened parallel hypovalves on male genital capsule, which are calliper shaped in P. communis.

"Identification difficulty. Requires detailed examination to identify and/or scarce.

"Recording advice. Females need to be examined with a microscope. Males can be identified from a good view of the hypovalves on the genital capsule.

"Habitat. Hedgerows, Nettle beds and well wooded areas.

"When to see it. May to September.

"Life History. They feed mostly on dead insects, which they frequently steal from the webs of spiders. Mating usually occurs at night. It can be a dangerous time for the male, if he is not careful the female might decide to kill him! To avoid this he presents her with a gift of a drop of saliva which, it seems, in the world of scorpion flies, is the equivalent of a bunch of roses or a box of chocolates.

"UK Status. This is the most common and widespread Scorpion fly in Britain, but with few records from northern Scotland."

The Arizona bark scorpion (Centruroides sculpturatus, included in Centruroides exilicauda), is a small light brown scorpion common to the southwest United States. The range of the scorpion is the Sonoran Desert, though less toxic relatives of the scorpion are located throughout the Southern US. An adult male can reach 8 cm in length (3.14 inches), while a female is slightly smaller, with a maximum length of 7 cm (2.75 inches). ( Taken from Wiki )

The Bark Scorpion is the most venomous scorpion in North America, and its venom can cause severe pain (coupled with numbness and tingling) in adult humans, typically lasting between 24 to 72 hours.

An articulated BigFig I made of my favorite Mortal Kombat fighter, Scorpion -- unmasked with his skull face form.

This was a quick build that I made over the course of a night. The figure is rather articulated and stable, although his arms are a big flimsy due to the Technic pin joints.

I plan on using this base design for making additional ninjas, in the same vein as the color palette swapping of Sub-Zero, Reptile, and Smoke.
