I finally found the right plug for the power connector at Radio Shack.

Printed circuit board for the Southern Cross 1 single-board Z80 computer.

The board will run off either AC or DC - I run it off 9V @ 800mA DC (a wall-wart from Radio Shack).

It works! No magic smoke escaped.

That's not a date - that's memory address 2000, and it has the garbage value "bc" at that address.

Electronic Parts Outlet will usually grab a random bag from under the counter to hold your purchases. I got a POPCORN BAG.

ah!

Scout Niblett!

Here I've put in the first of 53 wire traces.

I purchased 1K resistors at Radio Shack to replace the ones missing from the kit.

More wire traces/jumpers installed. This took longer than any other part of building this system, as they had to be measured to length, stripped, and soldered.

Well, it was time to move on and buy something newer.

I bought the car brand new in Aug 2001, I drove it easy and always took good care of it. Every month or two I would vacuum and wash the interior with a bucket of soapy water and keep it clean.

My father is a mechanic and we did most of the work and maintenance on it.

If I was going to just stay in town I could probably drive it another year or 2 but it's too old with too many km to drive all around Ontario and Quebec so I had to let it go.

I miss it already, I feel like I abandoned a close family member.

I only bent one pin (on the keyboard latch chip), and managed to fix it without problems.

The LEDs and switches were the last parts to be installed

For some reason I took a lot of pictures of the board in this state (before the LEDs and keyswitches were installed).

It's done! Now time for the Magic Smoke Test.

I'll eventually make proper labels for these, but Mr. Sharpie works for now. The top-left key is "Fn" (function). Below that is "AD" (address/data).

"Speaker", SIL resistors, etc.

Ready to install the IC sockets.

I still hadn't labeled the keypad when I took this picture.

Hi guys,I'm back again!

Even though I already said that I'm not going fold starcraft units anymore, for some reasons I had to fold lurkers and hydralisks... :)

Anyway, the photos looks awful, the real thing is way much better..well,I guess this model is just hard to take pictures..
