Sapphire-spangled Emeralds frequent rainforest edges, humid or gallery forests, second growth, clearings, orchards, and gardens. Males defend flower territories and are rather diverse in their flower preferences. These emeralds can be difficult to identify in the field: they are mostly olive-green above with whitish middle and lower underparts. In favorable lighting, their throats sparkle with violet-blue. A male White-winged Fairywren in his sapphire blue breeding plumage.

The species is found in low shrubland throughout arid and semi-arid areas.

I found the this bird quite difficult to photograph. Maybe it was the iridescence of the blue feathers. It was also very quick and busy, hopping in and out of the bushes. They wouldn't let me get quite close enough to make an image that was not heavily cropped.

They don't come this far south where I live so it was a treat to see this beauty.

Still stuck in Yellowstone in Winter 2010 - This is the Sapphire Pool, Biscuit Basin.

What a blast to the past. I must have had 25-30 dust spots on this image. I'd mostly forgotten about that annoying phenomenon. Being more into wildlife only now, I shoot a lot more wide open than at those high f/ numbers for 'scapes, so dust isn't so apparent, and of course auto sensor cleaning is probably way more effective than it used to be. I do still occasionally have to resort to "manual" sensor cleaning, not very often. Ah, the memories.

A coastal island town, forgotten and remembered. Full of life and yet abandoned. Preserved history and growing future. This was created as a gift for Sapphire. Everyone is welcome, supernatural, furry, children and people friendly! Come and swim!

This is our pet Omar, short for Omar Bradley, a US general who served in WW2. He is a Ragdoll male, about 11 years old. He was on the corner of the bed this morning so I grabbed my camera and took some shots. He is quite the lover as he gets lots of love from my wife and I. He loves to be petted and frequently! If you don't pet him enough he will cry at me ;) I do so love those blue eyes of the Ragdoll breed of cat. They look like blue sapphire gemstones.
