Sandstone Village, summer 2009. I believe this is the 500th image I have sent to the Northeast Ohio Photographers group ... not surprising since it just about the only group I ever send photos to.
A large chunk of sandstone at the edge of the quarry. The ''petrified'' ripple marks can be seen along the top, and there is slight crossbedding near the top. The area is too grown over to see the back, but this is probably refuse that fell from the top of the quarry wall and was never used due to impurities.
This is without a doubt the most fragile and intricately formed rock formation I have seen. There are dozens of small openings, most only the size of a quarter, throughout this formation and many extremely narrow layers.
The formation reminded me of sandcastles on the beach, except it was frozen in time. It's very difficult for this photograph to convey how intricate and delicate this incredible formation is.

Seeing this sandstone staircase with cast iron railings still in situ blew me away how well was this put in 250 years ago ,how much must it have cost and how many people down the line must have appreciated its splendor.
