It's difficult to imagine how, after living in this gorgeous state all my life, less than 30 miles away, and I had never visited Roxborough State Park until this morning. Boy have I been missing out! This place is absolutely gorgeous! This morning was extremely cold and frosty, making for some great atmospheric photography. I was also playing around with some of the different in-camera effects. The sandstone looked so beautiful covered in snow!
I returned to this arrangement at Seagreens. I just love the rich colours of the exposed sandstone in this area. I removed the tiny pebbles for this second shot. Less is more?
An almost surreal display of natural sandstone rock colours on a ceiling of a cave in the ancient Nabataean city of Petra.
this is our campground in zion national park. we had been looking for a good spot to camp at when we snagged a large area that was far from anyone else. we were stunned with the view that we saw all evening
Deep in the Robber's Roost is a technical canyoneering route that took us through this sandstone alley. It had rained just the night before, and the ground in many places was still wet also making the sandstone brittle.

While exploring in the Ladysmith area, found this little out of the way beach and the unique formations there...
I'm posting this one almost as a novelty. I don't like to look for things in nature that "look like" familiar objects or animals, but sometimes ... This one was so obvious that I couldn't "not see" it.
Dawn is breaking, in its own good time. Sandstone Estates Railway, Orange Free state, South Africa, 27th May 2010. The signal - the keypoint of the picture, is for ornamental purposes only and has no operating function.
- www.kevin-palmer.com - Sometimes fall colors can be hard to find on the prairie. But these colorful bushes below a sandstone bluff really stood out.
the Elbe Sandstone Mountains extend on both sides of the Elbe from the Saxon town of Pirna in the northwest toward Bohemian Děčín in the southeast. Their highest peak with 723 m is the Děčínský Sněžník in Bohemian Switzerland on the left bank of the river in Bohemian Switzerland north of Děčín.
The Elbe Sandstone mountains have been a popular destination for tourists for more than 200 years, and for climbers for more than 100 years. It is also a popular recreation area for the nearby Saxon capital Dresden. Places of interest include the Bastei cliffs near Rathen, the Königstein Fortress, Pravčická brána, the Schrammsteine, Pfaffenstein, and the valleys of the Kirnitzsch and Kamenice rivers. There are some 14000 climbing routes via which mountain climbers can conquer 1100 free-standing peaks. Visitors can experience the natural scenes on the asphalt Elbe cycle path, or on board a steam paddleboat that is part of the oldest fleet of its kind in the world.

These weathered sandstone pinnacles stand on a hilltop at Abaike in the Ennedi Mountains of northeastern Chad, Central Africa.
Tell me what's wrong with this shot. I can't decide if I like it. Vignette overdone? Contrast too much?
Just picked up some C-41 B&W film to play with, think I'm going to push the daylights out of it and perhaps re-shoot this shot with it at last light. The sun sets over the hill on the right if I recall rightly. Will be the perfect place to test a new toy I have on it's way, a Bronica SQ 80mm PS lens to go with the body and 120 film back I picked up in the last couple of weeks. Taken in the same spot as here, give or take 10 yards :)
Thanks for looking and enjoy your weekend!
Thought I had uploaded this but I just have another similar shot. I loved Coyote Buttes South and hope to return sometime. As I said, just so many possibilities.
Thanks for all the comments on the previous images.
