Another of my favourite portraits - one of my favourites of all time actually from Graham Wood at the Red Rose studio.
I love this for its rustic tones, innocence and the soft light emphasis on my fluffed-up hair.
The top is floral, tan & pink, see-thru with ruffles from a charity shop and coincides beautifully with the rest of the colour palette.
I am also a fan of negative space; I much prefer a headshot to be a landscape like this, rather than a portrait.

So much fun! I wanted to use the technique I used on my dusty blue polymer clay birds to make some beads for a new look for my dangling necklace. So here are the results and I love them! I started with a solid mix of white, blue, yellow and orange clay. Next I made patterns with silicon molds (made from impressing other clay pieces), a found object, and some old dental instruments. I used black pearlex powder on all these pieces to bring out the pattern. After curing, I sanded with 600 grit sandpaper and waxed with Renaissance wax. Finally, I used iris Blue and Red gilders paste to play with the colors. Oh...some of these are colored with chalk before I cured them...you have to figure out which ones!

Rte. 146 Rustic Drive-In
North Smithfield, Rhode Island
I have driven by this many times but never stopped to photograph until I was recently inspired by Ken's photo.
This drive-in opened in 1951 and is the only active drive-in in Rhode Island.

Yellowstone's Rustic Fall at the Entrance to Golden Gate Canyon on Glen Creek and is listed as 47 feet tall. It is probably best viewed in the spring and early summer when the water levels are higher.

The Rustic (Cupha erymanthis) is a species of brush-footed butterfly found in forested areas of tropical South Asia and Southeast Asia.
They usually found puddling on rock and cement plastered surfaces.
The John Oliver Cabin, constructed c. 1822-1823 by the cove's first permanent European settlers. Dunn reports that the Olivers spent the winter of 1818-1819 in an abandoned Cherokee hut, and built a crude structure the following year. The Oliver Cabin was built as a replacement for this first crude structure, which was located a few meters behind the cabin.
John Oliver (1793-1863), a veteran of the War of 1812, and his wife Lucretia Frazier (1795-1888) were the first permanent European settlers in Cades Cove. The Olivers, originally from Carter County, arrived in 1818, accompanied by Joshua Jobe, who had initially persuaded them to settle in the cove. While Jobe returned to Carter County, the Olivers stayed, struggling through the winter and subsisting on dried pumpkin given to them by friendly Cherokees. Jobe returned in the Spring of 1819 with a herd of cattle in tow, and gave the Olivers two milk cows to ease their complaints.

The view from our rooms.
Can you believe it?
Our hotel was fairly new, furbished with clean tiles, turquoise walls and pristine white sheets.
You look out the window and you can see all the rooftops of the old shophouses that are probably at least 50 years old.
Talk about an experiential view.

Summer House on the grounds of Reynolda House, the family home of the tobacco entrepreneur, R.J. Reynolds--now an art museum and gardens affiliated with Wake Forest University. The little shelter is constructed of bark-covered saplings. It makes a lovely spot to eat one's lunch--in warmer weather!
Finally got it mapped! Tip for dealing w/ the new mapping on Flickr. Click on the 3 dots, lower right, and choose 'edit map'. This opens the older, familiar map system which is easier to use.

This is a sturdy little jug with a lovely pot belly shape. It's hand-thrown in stoneware and glazed using a wood ash glaze which gives it a rustic, no-nonsense feel. I've stamped the base of the handle with my own pottery seal.
The jug measures about 9cm tall.
