This early 1950's GMC one ton panel truck was spotted in the vintage salvage yard visit. I'm not sure what is attached to the top or what it might have been used for.

These rusty wheels look like they might have once belonged to a tractor of some sort. Another one of the many great finds we came across on our trip to Alaska this summer.

Macro Mondays: "Layer"

A dirty, rusted bottle cap I found in my backyard this week. I must have been left there when the house was being built.

Image is about 3.2 cm (1.25 inches) on the long edge

An old truck sits idle in a backyard at Sofala, NSW.

I'll come clean... this is a section of copper waste pipe that was bonded to cast iron, so technically corroded not rusted, though it does have a rust layer.

"And we've all grown older,

come see where we have been

Out here rusting in the rain."

The rusting hulk of an ice-breaking tug is being towed back to its home base on the Caledonian Canal in a project to restore it to its former glory. The Scot II was built in 1931 and operated on the canal from its home berth at Fort Augustus. It was later used as a pleasure cruiser, a floating bar and restaurant before sinking near a boatyard on Bute. A former canal lock keeper Daniel Clark is leading efforts to restore the tug as an ice-breaker.

Rivets and Rust” — Detail of weathered and distressed steel structure on the Steel Bridge, Portland, Oregon

I made this photograph at about the same time as another one that I posted recently — it also featured a close-up view of the weathered structure of an old steel bridge with rivets, colorful stains, and lots of weathering.

Whether the specific location is all that important is debatable, but I made the photograph on the “Steel Bridge” (that’s actually its name), over the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon. This is an old and quite busy structure, and it is full of fascinating little vignettes.
