Victoria hosts its marathon every September. Walk and run routes for those planning to warm up are mapped in a project by Capital Bike and Walk and supported by Fronturnners.
Sandbanks, a spit which runs into Poole Harbour, has the fourth most expensive property prices in the world.
There's also a chain ferry across the mouth of the harbour - the second largest natural harbour in the world - which links to Studland and on to Swanage.
On the day I visited, the traffic queues to cross the ferry were enormous.

(2011/01/26) - I have heard reports that this statue was somehow vandalized (many years ago) and is no longer present in front of the grocery store in Clallam Bay. I do notice that the statue is not visible in Google Streetview and that the stand remains empty. If anybody can report on what happened, please let me know.
