Medically Friendly Shelter Exercise
June 8th and 9th, 2011
The City conducted a major full-scale exercise of the new Medically Friendly Shelter (MFS) in the Virginia Beach Field House. The public private partnership with the newly opened athletic facility provides a 170,000 square foot venue where the City can accommodate people with special needs during a Category 2 hurricane or other declared emergency.
More than 25 staff and volunteers came together in the middle of the night on June 8 to turn ball courts into a mass care area and space for family members.
Just after sunrise on June 9, over 100 members reported to organize registration, triage, medical care and logistical support for the facility. Throughout the morning, volunteers reported to the Field House seeking shelter for an array of simulated medical conditions. Each was screened then placed at a cot where they could be monitored by nursing staff.
While the Department of EMS is the lead agency for coordinating the MFS, this event would not have been possible without participation from across City staff and community organizations.
Participants included City Departments of Fire, Health, Sheriff, Police, Human
Services, ComIT Multimedia Services, Public Works and Public Utilities. Volunteers responded from the Medical Reserve Corps, CERT, Amerigroup, American Red Cross, rescue squads and local military units.

Leith Run enters the Ohio River near Newport Ohio. There is also a recreation area and camp ground here . In the spring when the Ohio tends to be muddy and high the water from the creek backs up and floods the stream basin leading into the river. We had a pretty wet early May and so there was some flooding when I visited in early May. As I visited the sky alternated between threatening clouds and sun. I liked the contrast of the rain clouds moving in but was happy when the clearer skys prevailed.
The Lidl Run Kildare Events 2013 were held at the Curragh Racecourse, Newbridge, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Sunday 12th May 2013. There were three events: a 10KM, a half marathon, and a full marathon. This is a selection of photographs which includes all events. The photographs are taken from the start and finish of the marathon, the finish of the 10KM, and the finish of the half marathon. Due to the large numbers participating we did not manage to photograph everyone - which was not helped by the weather. Congratulations to Jo Cawley and her RunKildare crew for another great event. The weather didn't dampen the spirits of the many happy participants.

Overall Race Summary
Participants: There were approximately 3,000 participants over the 3 race events - there were runners, joggers, and walkers participating.
Weather: A cold breezy morning with heavy rain at the start. The weather dried up for the 10KM and the Half Marathon races
Course: This is an undulating course with some good flat stretches on the Curragh.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. Cole Run Falls
Located in Rockwood, Somerset County as part of Forbes State Park. While this isn't a large waterfall, the landscape is beautiful. From the parking area to the falls is a short walk, making access easy to the top of the falls. However, the trail to the bottom can be a little rougher, especially when wet like the day we were there.
Rabbits for hanging up for sale outside of an old fashioned Butchers shop in Ludlow on the England / Wales border.
Rabbit tastes delicious, a little like chicken. Best in a stew, but has become quite popular again in the UK
following all the disease that the wild rabbit population suffered in the 1950`s and 1960`s ( Mixametosis )
These rural butchers often have "game" hanging ourside of the shop - pheasant, partridge, quail, and rabbit !

The Color Run is a five-kilometer, un-timed race in which thousands of participants are doused from head to toe in different colors at each kilometer. The fun continues at the finish line with a gigantic “Finish Festival,” using more colored powder to create happiness and lasting memories, not to mention millions of vivid color combinations.

Watching the Sandhill Cranes' lumbering morning takeoffs is a sharp contrast to their graceful flight. The cranes roost in ponds overnight to protect themselves from predators. In the morning, they need a running start to get themselves airborne. You can often anticipate a takeoff run as, in the case of the crane in the background between the two runners, they will start leaning forward.
