These red tennies are the closest thing I've got to ruby slippers (they're even a bit sparkly!). As soon as I got the idea for this photo, I was worried that my parents would throw them out before I got home--I haven't worn them for years!

But here I am, my first day at home after seven weeks, four beds, and a trip (or two) across the ocean.

It's good to be back.

I finally got my dream shoes red sparkly heels. i traditionally like neither slingbacks, peeptoes or heels let alone stiletto heels but these were too close to perfection to pass up. now let's just see if i can walk in them...

Okay, I screwed up. I thought yesterday was the sock picture. Oh well, I like it so much I'll post it, (but not to FGR; I'm not crazy. The asshats scare me ;-) ) even if it won't "count" for FGR

I made this cake for a friends birthday, her fancy dress party had a the theme of musicals and I knew that Sam and her family were all going as characters from the Wizard of Oz.. With Sam going as Dorothy. This was the first 12 inch Madeira cake I have ever baked, I think ensuring it was evenly baked was the most stressful part. The cake was vanilla madeira sponge with raspberry jam and vanilla buttercream filling. The cake was then covered in sugarpaste and I used a mixture of modelling paste and flowerpaste for the figures. The birthday girl was really pleased with the result

Continuing the Wonderful Wizard of Oz Collection.... (Last year, I painted Dorothy, Tin Cat, Lion, and Scarecrow Cat).

I used the original book reference for her one-eyed appearance, and originally painted the silver slippers on Dorothy.... but.... changed my mind because I knew hard-core Oz movie fans would want this piece (featuring ruby slippers!). :)

I've never really liked my feet, but I do love these shoes.

I wasn't going to buy a lot of Orchids at the Pacific Orchid Exposition, but I ended up buying eight plants... I wanted to get a bunch of Masdevallias after seeing mine yellow one survive and do well outside in our patio.

Sixteen year-old Judy Garland wore these sequined shoes as Dorothy in the 1939 film classic, The Wizard of Oz. In the original book by L. Frank Baum, Dorothy’s magic slippers are silver; for the Technicolor movie, they were changed to ruby red to show up more vividly against the yellow-brick road. One of several pairs used during filming, these size-five shoes are well-worn, suggesting they were Garland’s primary pair for dancing scenes.

The Smithsonian Institution, an educational and research institute and associated museum complex, administered and funded by the government of the United States and by funds from its endowment, contributions, and profits from its shops and its magazines, was established in 1846. Although concentrated in Washington DC, its collection of over 136 million items is spread through 19 museums, a zoo, and nine research centers from New York to Panama.

I love this candid shot!

I had a pair of glittery red shoes when I was a little girl, and when I saw a how to in a craft book the other day I literally couldn't NOT make them! It did of course turn out to be one of those diy projects that cost way more than you expect, but it was worth it to me :) Now I'll just have to make sure I keep up my nerve to wear them in public...
