The Rub' al Khali is the largest contiguous sand desert in the world, encompassing most of the southern third of the Arabian Peninsula. The desert covers some 650,000 square kilometres including parts of Saudi Arabia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. It is part of the larger Arabian Desert. One very large pile of sand!!!

La fotografia è un istante catturato dai poeti del tempo. E’ scrivere gli attimi per regalarli al futuro.

Most of the UAE's cultivated land is taken up by date palms, which in the early 1990s numbered about 4 million. They are cultivated in the arc of small oases that constitute the Al Liwa Oasis. Both federal and emirate governments provide incentives to farmers. For example, the government offers a 50 percent subsidy on fertilizers, seeds, and pesticides. It also provides loans for machinery and technical assistance. The emirates have forty-one agricultural extension units as well as several experimental farms and agricultural research stations. The number of farmers rose from about 4,000 in the early 1970s to 18,265 in 1988.
Nella notte entreremo
a rubare
un ramo fiorito:
Passeremo il muro,
nelle tenebre del giardino altrui,
due ombre nell'ombra.
Ancora non se n'è andato l'inverno,
e il melo appare
trasformato all'improvviso
in cascata di stelle odorose.
nella notte entreremo fino al suo tremulo firmamento,
le tue piccole mani e le mie
ruberanno le stelle.
E, cautamente,
nella nostra casa,
nella notte e nell'ombra,
entrerà con i tuoi passi
il silenzioso passo del profumo
e con i piedi stellati
il corpo chiaro della Primavera.
Pablo Neruda
For as many times as I've been in this structure, I've never noticed these things. You would think they would be obvious, but when you need to shoot at 2000 ISO and 30 secs, it's DARK.
Everything in this corner of the sub-floor is the same tone. The same color of dust, dirt, and rust. It's like a bomb just went off and covered everything in the same cloud. But it definitely is appropriate.
Cryptostegia grandiflora (Apocynaceae), commonly known as rubber vine, is a woody-perennial vine that is native to south-west Madagascar. It has been introduced to most other tropical and subtropical regions because of its attractive flowers and the fact that its latex contains commercial quality rubber. It is now naturalised in the Caribbean, East Africa, Mauritius, India, Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Latin America, the southern United States, Australia, Fiji and New Caledonia.

...it's Doug in the tub!
if you can't find Doug, chances are he's in the tub.
Doug is definitely going to be a water cat. He likes to drop his toys in the water dish and then fish them out and meows at the tub faucet until you make it drip.
After you take a shower he likes to walk around in the bottom of the tub as the water drains out.
Some butterflies have a dark side including this Peacock which relies on its dark side to evade detection during hibernation. They usually spend the winter in dark places like woodpecker holes, and often hibernate communally. If something disturbs them during winter they collectively rub their wings together creating a sinister hissing noise, that would probably be sufficient to scare off a mouse or small bird. A second line of defence is a flash in the dark of their impressive eyespots, just visible here shining through. In the darkness of a woodpecker hole this might be enough to make a Wren think there was a dangerous owl lurking in there.
I photographed this Peacock backlit by the morning sun with its showy eyespots peeping through the dark underwing scales.
