You've no idea how hard it is to take a photo of a root vegetable and make it look kind of appealing:-)

 

This is a Kumara the Maori name for a Sweet Potato. It was brought to NZ from Polynesia by the first Maori settlers over 1000 years ago and was widely cultivated by them especially in the subtropical areas of the North Island.

I love kumara -wrapped in foil and baked or mashed...mmm!!!

Just wish we could grow it down here. These ones are the orange variety, you can also get red and gold kumara.

Radishes from our garden

these are some of the donkeys at the sanctuary at carrot time!

 

from left to right these are billy O, eli, boris and ripple

 

they are so cute, the one below was spinning round so the other donkeys couldn’t get his carrots and he even put his ears back like animals do when they are defending their food “my carrots!”

 

and the shot below that is another shot of them playing, these are simon (in the green rug) who is 26 and tinker is 23, some of the oldest donkeys they have!

Helianthus tuberosus Asteraceae - Hélianthe tubéreux Asteracées

 

Other Names: Tuberous sunflower, Earth Apple, Sunroot, Sunchoke, Topinambour. The root tubers are edible.

Jerusalem Artichoke plants can grow quite tall. This plant growing in my garden was about 10 feet tall!

 

Noms communs: truffe du Canada, Soleil vivace, poire de terre.

Les tubercules sont comestible. Les plants de topinambour peuvent pousser assez hauts. Cette plante qui pousse dans mon jardin mesurait jusqu'à 10 pieds de haut!
