A London-bound class 315 is coming to a stand at an apparently deserted Romford station and the guard is ready to open the doors. Note the fine BR Eastern Region blue hanging nameboard - which is the reason I took the shot.

This was a Bedford SB, new to Havering Council in 1984. According to the board at the front it was on a park and ride service.

A shot for SSC - windows .

Here we have a de Havilland Dragon Rapide and as we watch the Dragon taxi past we see into it's windows all of the people within - and one looking out taking photos of people taking photos of him . When in flight look through these windows and see the world below , or in the case of this Dragon maybe a Spitfire flying alongside if you wish to spend £400 for the ride - not a sight you would often see today !

The DH89A Dragon Rapide is an all-wood, twin-engine biplane passenger aircraft. The first flight of the prototype was from Hatfield by Hubert Broad on 17th April 1934. The first operator was Hillman Airways from Maylands Airport at Romford, their first aircraft G-ACPM making its debut at Hatfield on 13 July 1934 when Hubert Broad averaged 158 mph in the King’s Cup Air Race, before having to retire due to hail damage.

The Dragon Rapide was developed as a short-range airliner carrying up to eight passengers and capable of making a profit for the operator without subsidy. During the ten years it was in production, 728 were built for commercial and military use, the latter as the Dominie.

By 1942 production at Hatfield had reached a total of 346 Dragon Rapides and Dominies, but space was urgently needed for Mosquito production, so Dominie assembly was taken over by the Brush Coachworks at Loughborough, where a further 346 were built between 1943 and 1945.

Aircraft specifications:

Power Unit: Two 200 hp de Havilland Gipsy Six

Wing Span: 48 ft (14.6 m)

All-up Weight (A.U.W): 5,500 lb (2,495 kg)

Max Speed: 157 mph (253 kph)

Cruise Altitude: 16,700 ft (5,090 m)

Range: 573 miles (922 km)

Passengers: 8

I know that officially it's the London Borough of Havering but to me it will always be Romford in Essex

A snowy nightime shot (8 secs) taken from our bedroom window in our house in Jubilee Avenue,Romford just happened to include a Renault Dauphine on 29/11/69.

A much more recent e-m/u from the footbridge . Class ?.

Despite the blinds for route 193, this is indeed on route 347, as shown by the paper display in the windscreen. They could have at least turned the destination blinds to blank!

On 22nd June 2013, the routes and vehicles for routes 193, 368, 498, 608, 646, 648, 652, 656, 667, 679 and 686 transferred from First London's Dagenham (DM) base (which is soon to close) to Go Ahead London's Rainham base. This vehicle still has the former operator's livery.

RMC1475 passes under Romford Station bridge on 8/5/74 on route 370 bound for Tilbury Ferry. The RT's on this route had been replaced by a combination of downgraded RMC's (from the 723 routes) and RCL's (from the 721). This was now the London Country era , hence the yellow cantrail band

That DMS is showing 'Wennington' as a final destination. This must mean that the garage run to Ensign's base at Purfleet was in service. TfL wouldn't permit that now!

1988

31105 at Romford about to attach to drag 312795 working 1342 Clacton to Liverpool Street on 16 February 1986. As far as I can recall this was the only occasion when class 312s were dragged into and out of Liverpool Street, with locos detaching from down trains at Ilford then running light engine to attach to their next up working at Romford. Unfortunately I didn't get to Liverpool Street until afternoon (there were GN drags to deal with in the morning) and this is the only picture I have of this rare event.

On this day I was sitting over at the Coniston Diamond waiting for a southbound CN when I heard the CP RTC give clearance to 9013 south from Romford to St Cloud. That was enough for me and I ran back to the car and quickly drove over to set up for this shot.

I didn't have to wait long until CP 222 came into view and the trailing CEFX and second SD40-2F were an added bonus.

This is the first route in the Havering borough to use a whole allocation of electric buses and these Enviro400 EVs have been running in service since the very end of 2020.

Later that afternoon 19th-July-1977 , I visited Elm Park Coaches, Romford Garage , in East London .

They would not let me in , and my colour slide of what I went for , this Willowbrook 002 bodied Seddon Pennine 6 is missing .

Therefore I show a shot of that vehicle taken on 16th-April-1977 by my life long friend and trip companion Terry W
