The Dahlewitz site is the Group's center of excellence for twin-shaft engines - this is where the development and final assembly of all BR700 engines is located. So far around 4,500 engines of this series have been delivered. The new Pearl engine, too, was developed here, is manufactured and serviced here. The company has been operating a center for artificial intelligence in Dahlewitz since January 2019.

With a whistle that was louder than a New Zealand High Country shepherd's whistle, a fully loaded truck was summoned from further down a nearby side road...

The truck roared down to the intersection, paused briefly before muscling its way into the stream of traffic (Might is right!!!), roared along the highway for 50 metres, then promptly swerved in front of the stationary Paver.

The truck then reversed quickly and skillfully backwards into the front of the machine, raised its tray, and with a double-tap on the Paver's horn (Translated, it meant "Roll em!"), the two vehicles moved off along the highway in tandem - at a snail's pace!

And left in their wake was an ultra-smooth strip of hot asphalt...!

Well, you've got to admit: it was a bit of a change from photographing Autumn leaves...!

A very BIG "Thank You" for all your prayers and kind messages; thank you also for taking the time and the trouble to leave an encouraging Comment... It's especially nice to hear from you at the moment, and your comments are greatly appreciated thanks...!

No, not a new recipe, just two of my staple fashion items from way back, a roll neck top and pvc mac!

A roll of unappreciated and undervalued toilet paper basks in the glorious morning light. How much do we value the small things in our pursuit of grand moments or scenery? Here is to the toilet paper, the hairbands and the Sunday light. Cheers.

NEW SERIES, NEW PROJECT

"Skateboarding has taught me two things - that symbolise a meaning of life. How to keep a balance and how to pick yourself up when you've fallen." - Nikki Rowe

.

As you may have seen, I've been trying to hone my mobile photography skills recently but my DSLR remains as my main camera of choice. Dusted it off for a photo club field trip to @kaitif.skatepark a few weeks ago for a fun Saturday afternoon with my photography club. I had no idea that we had one built so it was a real treat to find out that we were invited to spend some time shooting there.

.

I was so impressed with these kids. They all practiced their tricks and they even repeated for us, to make sure we got the shots "right and tight".

.

I made a blog post on my website about it so you can read about what happened there. Check out the link here: www.nickyhighlanderphoto.com/blog/2022/5/20/kaitif-skatepark

There's going to be a part 2 to this blog post soon....

Canola field near Harden

Oh hey, it’s me, trying really hard to make this not seem exactly what it is, covered up from head to toe, trying to stay warm from the snow, sitting in a dark residential lot, alone, with a camera pointed at the back of these apartments, really late on a random weekday, not being creepy at all.

.

A quiet moment to myself trying to figure out how to say what I just said but not that way at all.

This little mech was built for the 9BrickMech contest over on instagram, now with a bonus shot after the deadline! Also might get entered over at New Elementary because it has lanterns, tbd. C&C Welcome!

Actually, as far as video screenshots go, this is pretty decent

So here is something I wouldn't normally do. I'm sharing what's essentially (almost) an entire roll of film.

While looking for something to share today, I came across a roll taken with the Argus C3 that I had never shared before.

The emulsion was Kodak Ektacolor Pro Gold 160, which must have expired in the 90s. It was developed in ECN-2.

These were taken on a leg of my trip last summer that took me from the Terry Badlands of Montana to the Nebraska National Forest.

I don't know why I didn't share them before this. I know that the camera's focus was off, and maybe it just made me cranky and I shelved the entire roll.

Saturday Self Challenge

Our next challenge will be "panning".

This is the technique of creating movement though following a moving object as you take the picture.

This has got to go down in my history book as the most difficult of the Saturday challenges so far. The tutorials and videos made it look relatively easy, well it maybe for some but not for me. I started on Sunday and by Thursday all I’d managed to achieve was hundreds of images of everything from buses to birds that ended up in the bin.

Getting desperate on Thursday morning my husband offered to drive our car up and down at varying speeds until I managed to get a shot (Thanks Karen for planting the seed of an idea) So off we went to a quite road by the reservoir about a mile away, to attempt what I now thought was near impossible. The good news was that it wasn’t raining, but it was freezing cold and blowing a gale. It wasn’t too long before I couldn’t feel my fingers, or see very much as the wind was making my eyes water. Seems it was quite warm and cosy in the car ! Anyway, after several drives passed, plenty more rubbish shots and before I froze to death, I managed to get this, it’s not perfect but I’ve accepted it’s the best I can do. I’m informed the car was travelling at the super fast speed of 23 mph, any faster and it was a blur, slower and the background was in focus too. The strange white patches on the grass are blurred sheep, who were all looking quite puzzled at the strange goings on.

In case anyone is wondering the title ‘I Roll’ is the make of car, derived from Latin.

Thank you for your visit and your comments, they are greatly appreciated.

Daryl Top had a pretty good business and like any good businessman, he was always looking for things to improve. He had an idea for cigarette rolling papers which he called, Tops Rolling Papers. That was back in 1953. He had no idea that his papers would be used for anything other than tobacco and then the 1960s happened.
