In the letters that had reached Juliette far away in Northern China, their mother and Maimie had told Juliette about Maime's marriage, her new daughter and their new home. It was a lucky co-incidence that Juliette had turned up on the very afternoon of the house-warming party. Juliette's friends in China had crafted a wonderful rocking chair as a combined house warming and wedding gift for their comrade's sister.. Poor Juliette had had several problems during her journey, due to the chair, but seeing how pleased Maimie, indeed, the whole failmy were, Juliette knew it had all been worth while!

This Indian Rocking Chair belonged to Edward V. Bridge. We have no reliable information on the origins of this unique piece, but we believe that it may have been used in his photography studio.

From a photoshoot in July.

Just another example of a common sight, it seems, in airports in the eastern part of the USA.

back porch, patio, wood, rails, railing, woods trees

An antique rocking chair that once belonged to my grandmother.

After too many years its almost finished.

Paint striped, sanded, reassembled, replaced broken back slats.

Measurements 17.5 inches wide x 22 inches deep x 33 inches tall. Seat 15 inches deep x 19 inches tall.

Screened in porch at the Hotel Lakeside.

This shot of a rocking chair on the porch at Locust Grove leaves a lot to the imagination. It's fun to think about Peter or Catherine sitting here on crisp autumn nights.

I'm not sure whether Louis Armstrong or the Mills Brothers ever set foot in the Don CeSar Hotel, but they would have enjoyed a premium view of St Pete Beach from this exalted position.

"Portrait of Teresina Vasco seated in a small rocking chair. Her feet and the chair rest on a pile of flowers. Her proper left arm rests on the arm of the chair and she looks off to the right. Her curly hair is tied back in bows and she wears a dress with a lace collar. The sculpture sits on a square base at the head of a tombstone."

Hobbes relaxing before the flight

bad day.

i'm very disappointed in people today.

finding myself wanting to hide out from the world a bit.

so, i'm hanging out with the pets right now.

trying to find a little sanctuary and inspiration in their company.

take clementine, for example.

this is how i found her about an hour ago.

just sitting there, so peaceful and happy.

in "her" chair.

in the sunshine.

in her own little world.

i'm a tad envious.

she doesn't care if people hurt her feelings.

she has a quiet, comfy place to sit and just be.

i need to find one of those places.

sending out peace to flickrland.

Digging out an old shot... Could take pics for the first 3 songs... it turned out that there was almost no light or only backlight (they turned them on later on, when we couldn't shoot anymore), so I wasn't very happy with the shots. Here's the one I consider the most "acceptable".

I didn't realize it at first, but it was probably inspired by this.

Circa 1910's...

My brother, arrayed in front porch musical glory. Picture taken Saturday afternoon after our weekly pancake breakfast at the House of Subuded Excitement.

Here is a closeup of the oak leaf and acorn designs on the backrest. According to my mom, this rocking chair has been in the family for around 100 years. My grandmother used to rock my mom in the chair when she was a baby, and mom fed me while rocking in the chair as well. It was painted bright blue in the 1950s by my grandma, unfortunately, and then they put a thick layer of black paint over that in the 60s or 70s that obscured the carved detail. Also, the chair was singed in a fire at some point, so when I was given custody of the heirloom in the 90s, we had it stripped and restored to our best guess at the original appearance. I know the Antiques Roadshow people wouldn't approve, but it was falling apart and now you can see the detail. It's quite comfortable, and low enough for my short legs to comfortably reach the floor. M-kitty likes to sit under it. In this view, dropcloths temporarily protect the carpet.

don't get me wrong, i don't have anything against nascar and i know a lot of people who enjoy watching advertisement-laden cars racing around in circles, but i've never been one to choose to spend much time getting into the motorsport. but odin loves his playing with his toy cars and he certainly enjoys what he calls my coo car so i guess it should come as no surprise if he happens to flip on the television and there happens to be a race on, he's more than happy to take a seat in his rocking chair, wrap himself in his favorite blanket, and narrate the action.

"oh, look, poppi! coo cars! racing!"

and whooweee, it's exciting to watch the cars go into the pit for a fresh set of tires, because everyone knows that taking off tires is Very Big Fun.

"see! tires! taking off!"

and, of course, it's not very long before he yells, "oh, poppi! car crash!"
