Dunstanburgh Castle. 700 years of erosion have taken their toll on the stonework.

Brimham Rocks, once known as Brimham Crags, is a 183.9-hectare (454-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Geological Conservation Review (GCR) site, 8 miles (13 km) north-west of Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England, on Brimham Moor in the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The site, notified as SSSI in 1958, is an outcrop of Millstone Grit, with small areas of birch woodland and a large area of wet and dry heath.

The site is known for its water- and weather-eroded rocks, which were formed over 325 million years ago and have assumed fantastic shapes. In the 18th and 19th centuries, antiquarians such as Hayman Rooke wondered whether they could have been at least partly carved by druids, an idea that ran concurrently with the popularity of James Macpherson's Fragments of Ancient Poetry of 1760, and a developing interest in New-Druidism. For up to two hundred years, some stones have carried fanciful names, such as Druid's Idol, Druid's Altar and Druid's Writing Desk. (Wikipedia) Nidderdale, Yorkshire Dales, United Kingdom.

This rock is called ”Lion Rock” located at eastern Izu district

in Shizuoka Pref, Japan. Surging wave(swell undulation)has big energy beyond expectation.

この岩はライオン岩と呼ばれてます。うねりは運動エネルギーがとても大きく、周期的に大きなうねりが来るので油断できません。

Due to the high backlight I had to use strong processing.

The Fairy Rock rises tower-like from the slope of the Fairy Mountain descending to the east-northeast: less from the direction of the Fairy Mountain, but very steep from the direction of the valley. Its material is a dolomite stone formed in the late Triassic age, which dusts in places.

One of the most famous rock formations in Karkonosze. Seen on the trail from Śnieżka to Karpacz :)

Southern Stone (in Poland "Słonacznik") is located in the Western Sudetes, the band Giant, in the Giant Mountains National Park, west of the Cauldron of the Great Pond, on the northern slope Smogorni. It is a form of rock, consisting of several highly fractured granite island mountains, north of the pillar, viewed from the east side carved in the rock resembles a human figure. Rock is not impressive, situated at an altitude of 1423 m above sea level rises to a height of 12 m towers over the Upper Karpacz and the surrounding area, is the most characteristic and best-exposed rocks of the Giant Mountains, which can be seen from almost all the Jelenia Góra Basin. Fancy shapes rocks is the result of a complex and long process of erosion, during which they were deleted items less resistant to weathering and remain resilient. Southern Stone is one of the most interesting and most visited Giant rocks. Southern Stone takes its name from the fact that for the residents Podgórzyn, Przesieka and Borowice sun on a rock pointed south.

Góruje nad Karpaczem Górnym i okolicami, jest najbardziej charakterystyczną i najlepiej widoczną skałą w Karkonoszach, którą widać prawie z całej Kotliny Jeleniogórskiej. Fantazyjne kształty skały to efekt złożonego i długotrwałego procesu erozyjnego, podczas którego zostały usunięte elementy mniej odporne na działanie warunków atmosferycznych, a pozostały odporniejsze. Słonecznik zalicza się do najciekawszych i najchętniej odwiedzanych skałek karkonoskich. Słonecznik wziął swoją nazwę stąd, że dla mieszkańców Podgórzyna, Przesieki i Borowic słońce nad skałą wskazywało południe – nazwa niemiecka Mittagstein, czyli Kamień południa.

We spent a glorious day alone on Housel Beach, so as it was too sunny , I played with delicate balances. I could only just lift up this rock, and I think that's why it stood up to so many breaking waves. I waited till it looked like there was no rock beneath it. The title is a favourite Frank Zappa track.

Rock Pigeon, Columba livia, Merpati

Original wild rock pigeons are pale grey with two black bars on each wing, while domestic and feral pigeons as in this image, are very variable in colour and pattern. There are few visible differences between males and females. Many domestic birds have escaped or been released over the years, and have given rise to the feral pigeon. These show a variety of plumages, although some have the blue barred pattern as does the pure rock pigeon. Habitats include various open and semi-open environments. Cliffs and rock ledges are used for roosting and breeding in the wild. In the cities, rooftops is favourite breeding grounds. Originally found wild in Europe, North Africa, and western Asia, feral pigeons have become established in cities around the world. The species is abundant, with an estimated population of millions across the continents. Feral pigeons are found in large numbers in cities and towns all over the world.

Interesting root structure on the Chapel Rock tree.

A juvenile rock beauty (holacanthus tricolor) in front of mountainous star coral (orbicella faveolata).

Rock beauties are teases. They are relatively numerous, obviously easy to spot and they allow for a somewhat close approach, but not as close as you would like for an underwater shot as they often turn away or duck into a crack at the last moment. This juvenile wasn't as skittish as a typical adult. Unlike many other fish, juvenile rock beauties look like what they will become as they age, but maybe more of a red accent on the dorsal and anal fins.

It is a challenge to get a clean background underwater. Here, the rock beauty is posing in front of a large mountainous star coral. Unfortunately, there is a good chance this coral is dead now. This image was taken earlier this year. We returned to this site in the summer and much to our disappointment, probably 1/3 of the hard corals, if not more, were dead.

I don't know if it was "just" coral bleaching or due to disease, such as the stony coral tissue loss disease (first identified in FL in 2014, bit.ly/3fBTIEt), but it was very deflating to see it happen at a site that had so many magnificent and massive hard corals. Mountainous star coral is listed as "endangered" by IUCN.

A Rock Wren sings energetically at Red Rock Coulee Natural Area, which protects an intriguing landscape of large concretions spread over an area of prairie. The location is south of the village of Seven Persons which itself is southwest of the city of Medicine Hat in southeastern Alberta, Canada.

Here is a 5 image pano from an awesome evening I had at Chimney Rock a few months ago. The light wasn't explosive, but I was happy to have some color along with minimal wind and no fog;-) Love the view here with the wild Pacific on one side and calm Drakes Bay on the other!

"Turn it down," you say?

Well all I got to say to you is

Time and time again I say, No! (No!)

When you tell me not to play, I say, "No!"
