The sun managed to break through the cloudy sky to give some rich color to enhance the Needles and Haystack rock stacks near Cannon Beach, Oregon.
At least they are now leaving some seaweed on the beaches now - lots of foraging sites for the Rock Pipits and, hopefully for waders later on in the winter
Wherever there are rocks on a coastline, you will almost certainly find Rock Pipits. A bit more abundant and widespread during winter they are largely absent from the gentle southeastern coasts during breeding
A westbound Union Pacific grain train races through the big curve into Rock River, Wyoming, just after sunset on November 19, 2016.
A Rock Pipit on the Chanonry Point shoreline.
Unfortunately, the dolphins were a No Show so a good excuse to go back.
Seen on the water front old coach road. The harbour is surrounded by volcanic rock which makes for some interesting scenery!
This is the beautiful Stavanger Cathedral that I passed on a walk around the town. The stonework was amazing! “Stavanger Cathedral is Norway’s oldest cathedral and is considered the country’s best-preserved medieval cathedral.
It was built around 1125 and dedicated to Saint Swithun.
The cathedral has been in continuous use since the 1300s and remains the seat of the Diocese of Stavanger.
It is the only Norwegian cathedral from the Middle Ages that has largely retained its original appearance.”
From Banff to Oregon's volcanic marvel Smith Rock, my next series.
I chatted with these 2 hikers before they dropped down to the Crooked River to start their first exploration of this multi-faceted nature wonder. So many different trails to hike as well as rock climbing for the more daring.

Cathedral Rock is a natural sandstone butte on the Sedona skyline and one of the most-photographed sights in Arizona. After a weekend drive around Northern Arizona, Sedona was my last stop before heading home to San Diego. While I'm happy that I finally got a decent reflection photo of Cathedral Rock, it certainly wasn't the easiest reflection photo that I have ever taken. Steady winds over 10 mph made this an exercise in patience, desire and persistence. DSC_5650A
Another photo of the 'Rock Tree' in the bolivia flats but landscape not portrait. I know it's pretty much the same photo but it's too amazing a scene not to take loads!
Managed to get a break so here's two more photos as I'm away for a while so won't be uploading for a bit
