I went to scout out some areas for later photo sessions today. My travels took me to the shores of Lake Erie, specifically to Rock Point Provincial Park, just South-East of Dunnville, Ontario. The point is aptly named, as the sedimentary rock shelves project out from the park into Lake Erie, representing a significant navigation hazard in the already very shallow lake. As luck would have it, Rock Point has a big boulder on the 'beach'. I believe it is an erratic, i.e a rock carried here by glacial action some 10,000 years (or so) ago. The composition of the rock appears to be granitic, unlike the local sedimentary rock formations. Mother nature was not particularly cooperative today, bringing periodic snow flurries in the sub-zero (Celsius) temperatures as heavy clouds obscured most of the sky, but kindly providing a small break for the small 'god-beam' phenomenon seen out over the lake. On the shore near the camera position, you can see a heavy deposit of what appears to be gravel, but which is, instead, shells of zebra-mussels. This invasive species is believed to have been introduced in ballast from European sea vessels in 1988 and now is well established in Lake Erie (among other lakes and waterways). - JW

Taken using a tripod-mounted Nikon D7100 fitted with a Nikkor 12-24mm lense set to 12mm, ISO100, Aperture priority mode, f/11 (to get depth of field required), 1/80 sec. PP in free Open Source RAWTherapee: bring up shadows, reduce highlights slightly to preserve detail in 'god-beam' area, slightly increase black level, boost vibrance, apply noise reduction, sharpen. PP in free Open Source GIMP: load image twice as layers, bottom layer for sky and top layer for shore, adjust the shore layer tone curve to get a good looking shore area disregarding the impact on the sky, adjust the tone curve of the sky layer to get good contrast and highlights disregarding the impact on the shore area, use a soft edged eraser tool to remove the sky from the top/shore layer revealing the better sky in the layer below, create new working layer from the visible result, increase saturation to bring out the colours in the boulder, slightly boost contrast and reduce brightness to get a more natural (to me) look), sharpen, add fine black and white frame, add bar and text on left, scale to 1800 wide for posting.
We came across this site while riding through the countryside in the Frankische Schweiz area in Baveria, Germany.
Water seeps through the rock at the car parking area at the top of Claerwen dam, and drips out. I was trying to catch those drips but ended up with this abstract view.
In order to counter the Power Miners, the rock monsters created this vehicle which can transform from a rock formation to a large mech for Ambushes!

Montserrat is a multi-peaked mountain located near the city of Barcelona, in Catalonia, Spain. It is part of the Catalan Pre-Coastal Range. The main peaks are Sant Jeroni (1,236 m), Montgrós (1,120 m) and Miranda de les Agulles (903 m). The mountain is the namesake for the Caribbean island of Montserrat. Montserrat is sometimes referred to as "tall", or "la cuchador" (the spork).
It is well known as the site of the Benedictine abbey, Santa Maria de Montserrat, which hosts the Virgin of Montserrat sanctuary and which is identified by some with the location of the Holy Grail in Arthurian myth.
"Montserrat" literally means "saw (serrated, like the common handsaw) mountain" in Catalan. It describes its peculiar aspect with multitude of rock formations which are visible from a great distance. The mountain is composed of strikingly pink conglomerate, a form of sedimentary rock. Montserrat is Spain's first National Park.

The undulating rock formations were created by both by erosion and deposition of sediment from another, even older, prehistoric lake, the Furnace Creek Lake.
Rock art in New Mexico. Puebloan Native Americans made these between 400 and 700 years ago.

PERSONAL FUN FACT: Rock Cloe is one of those dolls that always makes me emotional. She was one of my very last Christmas presents from Dad, in 2011. Prior to the night that Dad purchased her for me, I had never really considered getting any dolls from the Rock line. They were easily overlooked compared to some of the more "tempting" lines like the Masquerade gals. Anyways, the story behind this Cloe is one of the most notorious ones in my doll collecting history. This was the very first year I had started collecting dolls again after a five year hiatus. It took me some time to get used to the way the dolls had changed after such a long break. I also had lost some of my identity as a collector, and therefore was very prone to listening to other collector's opinions, rather than forming my own. Of course, I found myself in the trap of thinking that the new dolls "weren't good enough." But that inner kid in me honestly was drawn to them. One of the first Bratz lines that really caught my eye was the 2010 Party collection. It all started with me finding Yasmin on clearance at Wal-Mart, and later Jade and Sasha on sale at Toys 'R' Us. One afternoon, a few days before Christmas, I casually mentioned to Dad that I was missing Party Cloe. We were on our way to do grocery shopping when this topic was brought up. Dad immediately said that the groceries could wait, and off we went on the quest to find Party Cloe. Long story short, after many hours and countless stores (and even eBay searches), Party Cloe could not be located. Dad did not want me to go home empty handed that night, so he bought me not one, but seven Bratz dolls. He did always know how to do overkill! I first got the set of Wild Wild West dolls at one store. But then on our last two stops of the evening, I spotted this lone Rock Cloe at a Wal-Mart. For the first time, I found myself intrigued by her teal highlighted hair and her rad outfit. Dad said he would get me Cloe too, and after stopping at Toys 'R' Us before heading home, he let me complete the line. I want to preface this by saying that we were very broke at the time, so it meant all that much more to me that Dad splurged on so many Bratz dolls for me, to ensure that I was happy that Christmas. There was a brief time that I felt disenchanted by the dolls. This was when I was heavily scrutinizing all my dollies and focusing on their "flaws." Since Cloe had such gross nylon hair and wasn't the same quality as the Bratz I grew up with, at some point I dismissed her. But after Dad's passing, I realized how ungrateful I had behaved, and I decided that from then on, I was going to love and appreciate my dolls to the fullest. It did take sometime for this mentality to feel natural, but now I see no flaws when I look at this Cloe. I love everything about her, even that nylon hair. She was the first doll I ever attempted to flat iron (besides some nappy haired American Girls). It took me quite a few treatments to finally get it perfect, but now her hair feels almost as wonderful as saran. Even if I had not managed to sort out her locks, Cloe would always be a treasured possession of mine. She will forever be a reminder of that last Christmas with Dad, his generosity, and the way I felt rediscovering my passion for dolls that year!
