You are an astronaut… approaching the end of your three month tenure aboard a space station. The space station orbits the Earth monitoring weather patterns whilst taking pretty pictures of the big blue planet below. It’s been a very boring and uneventful three months… but all that is about to change.

Last night… one of your idiot crew-mates forgot to close the station’s outer loading bay doors... an oversight which has allowed some unwelcome visitors aboard the ship. The corridors of the vessel are now overrun with unfriendly alien robots from the planet Mekonodd. These lumbering mechanical nightmares have shut-down the life support systems and are now hell-bent on removing all humans from the ship.

Fortunately there are enough Escape Pods on board to take you and your shipmates to safety. Unfortunately… due to poor maintenance procedures (and crew laziness) only one Escape Pod is operational… which means only one amongst you will stand a chance of escaping. Worse still… you will need to find three colour-coded Pod Keys before you can even think about heading for that solitary functioning Escape Pod.

The robots are patrolling the corridors, determinedly hunting down the hapless human crew. They will move in a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction (they are clockwork robots after all), which enables you to predict their movements and thus (hopefully) avoid capture. If you are caught by the robots… you will be thrown into the loading bay. Once all of the crew are inside the loading bay… the robots will open the doors and jettison the unwanted humans into space. In which case… the robots win and everyone else loses.

Inside your spacesuit you have ninety minutes worth of oxygen. If you fail to find the Pod Keys and reach the Escape Pod within that time… you are doomed. If one of your crew-mates uses the Escape Pod before you… you are doomed.

All in all things are looking rather bleak… and to make matters worse you are now feeling a little bit guilty… because you’ve just remembered which tired astronaut forgot to close the loading bay doors last night.

Deadly Orbit is a board game for 2 to 6 stranded astronauts.
