Taken at Slimbridge on Friday there with two of my mates for the day.. While the weather was not great for light it was very mild, and this winter seems to throw birds out of synch with the start of breeding in the spring this one seems in full breeding plumage!
The male robin sings loudly in the early spring, hoping to attract a mate into his territory. When a partner has been found, the male brings his mate tasty bits of food which she begs from him with quivering wings - this strengthens the pair bond.
I usually like my bird photos to be a bit more animated but sometimes when the background and the lighting come together I am happy with a nice crisp portrait.
Well, actually a robin's breast is not really red at all, but orange. Seen in Belhus Woods Country Park, Thurrock. D7100_11348.NEF. Many thanks for views, comments and favourites.
To all my fiends on Flickr have a great Christmas and new year and thank you all for making photography challenging and fun
The robin was photographed for our Christmas card and this is a photo of the card
Robin ( Erithacus rubecula )

One of the trusting Robin's from my local park in full song.
Robins sing nearly all year round and despite their cute appearance, they are aggressively territorial and are quick to drive away intruders.

I didn't see much wildlife on my walk yesterday (one chap I met said he had been watching water rail and the marsh harrier), but this little fellow cheered me up in the late afternoon sunshine.
This little robin was near the car when when pulled into the car park at RSPB Blacktoft Sands and if you look closely you can see the white car reflected in it's eyes. It was so tame, if I'd had food it would have eaten from my hand. There were about a dozen all in the carpark area - all singing away...
Following on of my flickr contacts wordpress blog (Leanne Cole - Excellent reading material and great photos) there has been an article about colour splash on xmas related photos so thought i'd have a go on this robin.....it has had a little spit toning added to the monchrome to give a slight blueish tint but think this works myself.....may change my mind tomorrow though...lol :0)
Some Birds ive seen on my walks, this little Robin was singing next to me and was quite happy for me to take his photograph
Robin in the Rain
Robin in the rain,
what a saucy fellow.
Robin in the rain
mind your socks of yellow ,
Running in the garden
on your nimble feet,
digging for your dinner
with your long strong beak.
Robin in the rain
you dont mind the weather,
showers always make you gay
Bet the worms are wishing
you had stayed home.
Robin in the rain.... dont get your feet wet
Robin on a rainy day!
