The GTI hasn't always replicated the 1976 original throughout the years, but the 2013 version is as close as it's ever been. This is a genuine dual-character car that's nearly vice-free, as practical as a roomy five-door hatch should be, and one that shows a real flair for the spectacular when stirred. www.mynrma.com.au/motoring/reviews/car-reviews/volkswagen...
So, you want a fun sports car that you can drive all year. Maybe something a little uncivilized , yet practical, without being outrageously expensive? And you want to power slide like a 4×4 pickup through a foot of snow? Not a problem. Today, you can head over to your local Subaru dealership and purchase a 2015 WRX STi. It’s the anytime, anywhere, any speed supercar that will put a teenage-boy smile on your face for under $36,000. Yes. Yes. Hell, yes.

Introduced as Lincoln's first pickup truck in August 2001 at the start of the 2002 model year, the Blackwood was a deluxe version of the F-150 which Lincoln-Mercury had aimed mainly at trailer-towing horse owners and certain old money types looking for a luxury truck as a towing unit (8,700 lb capacity). The Blackwood was dropped after one year with only 3,356 units. Being RWD only and lack of versatile cargo capacity (only a 4' x 8' "cargo box" with twin rear doors, no traditional load bed) limited interest. The Blackwood had a single standard trim $51,785 retail list price, with the only factory option being a navigation system.

This is a period road test in Indonesian Mobil & Motor (M&M for short; this title makes it nearly impossible to find online due to the Smarties competitors). I translated it from Indonesian and reformatted it with English text, using InDesign. Why? Just an urge, hopefully someone will find it interesting.
The Indonesians seem to have only gotten the 2.0-litre RX60 with specs close to those of a European Cressida and minimum of the bling seen on JDM vehicles. It replaced the 130-series Corona there. I welcome translation comments, the original text is also available HERE if needed.

Front wheel arches
The 612 Scaglietti’s volumes and surfaces are sculpted by Pininfarina to express its compelling personality. The result is a muscular car with a sleek, aerodynamic bonnet and signature scalloped sides borrowed from the famous 375 MM ‘Rossellini-Bergman’ – a perfect blend of elegance and aggression. The front wheel arches are long with a shorter overhang, and the rear wheel arches are styled to be strong enough to support the C-pillars.
Designed by Pininfarina to epitomise dynamism and elegance, the 612 Scaglietti boasts characteristic scalloped sides that recall the famous 375 MM bodied by the Turin coachbuilder for Rossellini and used by Ingrid Bergman.
Sculptural forms and sinuous lines
Ferrari made a conceptual shift with Pininfarina, ensuring the 612 Scaglietti would be a genuine departure from previous GT models.
The 612 Scaglietti is the result of an avant-garde design that continues the great Ferrari 2+2 tradition in fabulous style. Penned by Pininfarina, the 612 Scaglietti is named in honour of Sergio Scaglietti, the legendary Modenese stylist and coachbuilder responsible for bodying some of the most beautiful Ferraris of the 1950s and 60s.
The 612 Scaglietti epitomises Ferrari's talent for innovation and design. This thrillingly nimble, beautifully balanced sporty front-engined rear-wheel drive berlinetta offers a cabin capable of accommodating four occupants in unprecedented comfort, thanks to a host of accessories and a fantastic specification.
The 612 Scaglietti isn't just another 2+2 but a sumptuous, roomy two-door four-seater that's a pleasure to be aboard regardless of driving conditions.
Design and styling
Masterfully styled by Pininfarina, its good looks are as innovative as the design of the 612 Scaglietti, and exude dynamism and power. The result is an imposing car, with a long sleek bonnet, strong lines and signature scooped flanks borrowed from the famous Rossellini-Bergman 375 MM. The cabin can be completely personalised to the Client's taste, and features high-tech aluminium elements and handcrafted full-grain leather trim.
A great design inspired by a great idea
The Prancing Horse's story is one of prestige, aristocratic cars designed to meld effortless elegance with powerful sporty performance. A glorious past beautifully embodied by the utterly unique 612 Scaglietti. Ferrari has always been a major presence in the GT world. In fact, the launch of its 166 Inter in 1948 hailed the era of the 2+2 models, two-door four-seaters that delivered both thrilling driving and comfortable interiors. Since that time, Ferrari has produced a succession of enormously successful 2+2s, from the 212 Inter in 1951 to the 456M in the 1990s. This new model pays homage to the genius of Sergio Scaglietti, the Modenese coachbuilder par excellence, the "maestro of aluminium" who bodied some of the most famous Ferraris of all time. The 6 of the 612 indicates the car's displacement (5748 cm3 rounded off) while 12 is the number of cylinders boasted by its engine. The 612 Scaglietti exudes that same sophisticated, classy allure as its glorious predecessors yet also has a highly individual sporty character that makes it suitable even for longer journeys. In fact, it is this beautifully struck balance of dynamism and comfort that really sets this new model apart.
The 612 Scaglietti's sleek exterior exudes the allure of a blisteringly fast rear wheel-drive front-engined Coupé yet hides an exceptionally roomy cabin capable of accommodating four occupants in complete comfort. The car's all-aluminium chassis and bodywork are not only incredibly light but also offer other significant benefits in terms of performance both on the road and under braking. The 612 Scaglietti also boasts a powerful, dynamic 48-valve V12 engine that punches out 540 CV at 7250 rpm, gives it a maximum speed of 199 mph and lets it sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just 4 seconds.
Aided by the fact that the engine has been situated further back, the Transaxle system delivers near-perfect weight distribution of 54% rear while the active suspension system also automatically adapts to suit the road conditions. The 612 Scaglietti’s cabin has been designed for superb occupant comfort and offers almost unlimited personalisation options. However, the 612 Scaglietti's most revolutionary technical feature has to be its panoramic electrochromic roof which has three tint settings and gives all four occupants the feeling of travelling in an open top car. Last but far from least is the 612 Scaglietti's array of cutting edge technological accessories which include the Bose® in-car entertainment system and climate control, and make life aboard a pleasure indeed.
Roadtest mid-front-engined exotic
To drive hard, to really lean on, the 612 feels like a real natural, as if it’s been designed to be used like this. Hands off at 120mph, the 612 tracks arrow-straight. 150mph and it feels fabulously planted. This car is one magnificently comfortable pan-continental form of transport. Top speed? Hmm, this is going to be the subject of much debate, I predict. Ferrari now talks about a speed of ‘196mph plus’, but the engineers admit that Bentley’s 198mph Continental GT sent them back to their drawing boards to improve the aerodynamics. Having lowered the drag co-efficient from the original car’s 0.34 to 0.33, while retaining 115kg downforce at 186mph, they found another 2.5mph, which probably accounts for the ‘plus’ claim which now follows the figure of 196mph. Ferrari now says it builds the fastest four-seater in the world, despite Bentley’s apparently higher claimed v-max. For the record, the cabin is roomy, the dashboard simple in the extreme yet tasteful and beautifully finished. A prominent alloy band separates the dark upper dash from the lighter lower area and incorporates large circular air vents. The instruments are an incongruous mix of analogue and digital displays. Under the same hooded cover are a central circular rev counter and offset speedo, and a small monitor that houses horizontal digital gauges and a trip computer. Small buttons on the back of the steering wheel allow the driver to scroll through the various functions. Ferrari well understands how to create a sense of drama inside its cars; the rev counter reads from one at the bottom to seven at the top in white numbers, before the 7400rpm red line, with eight, nine and 10 in red. Low down on the dash a small plaque lists Ferrari’s five recent F1 world constructor championship titles. The seats are firm, supportive and electrically adjustable, like the steering wheel. Provided you’re prepared to splay your knees there’s enough room for a six-footer to sit behind a six-foot driver in the heavily sculpted, but relatively narrow twin rear seats. So it’s a genuine four-seater and a truly sumptuous one at that. Forget hard-core Ferrari sports cars, the Scaglietti’s dynamic refinement sets it apart from other Maranello machines – and the Mercedes SLR – to position it against rivals like the Bentley Continental GT and Mercedes CL 65 as a near four-seat luxury Grand Tourer. It doesn’t have the raw explosive performance of the Mercedes SLR, the only other mid-front-engined exotic. No matter, the 612 is hardly leisurely, and as a useable road car in terms of ride, refinement, roominess, and dynamics, I reckon the Ferrari’s got the measure of the Mercedes-McLaren. And by no small margin in terms of cabin appeal. By any assessment it represents a significant departure for Maranello. Some will struggle for a label for it, possibly settling for ‘Ferrari’s four-seater sports car’. Regardless, the 612’s a car of immense ability.
