Outside the Spa Francorchamps Racing Hotel, this sign was photo 1 of the road trip. Stood just up the road from the entrance to the infamous Belgian F1 circuit.
Its not too clear but this Steep Hill sign at Inverchaolain (Loch Striven) was erected by the Scottish Automobile Club. 15/5/84.

Was the signmaker Hegelian, Existentialist or perhaps a devotee of Kierkegaard?
What do normal people get for their 40th Birthdays? I have no idea! Thankfully my parents are as daft as me and bought me this old roadsign- mostly acrylic, it had a backing piece with seperate plastic letters glued on (presumably using a template, or a very keen eye to get them so straight!). As can be seen the top is hinged and can flip down, locating into a small clip so an alternative message is shown (posted elsewhere!). The sign needed a good clean and a couple of small repairs, invisibly carried out by my very patient father!
Interestingly, the '9' of 9am used to read '8.30' and you can see the faint markings where the original lettering has been prised off and a '9' substituted, hence the slightly awkward spacing of the dash between the times.
