Sunrise a misty morning@the riverbed, Xiapu, Fujian Province - China

A large river fish. We bought it for the astomomical sum of about $20, and it fed a whole bunch of people... That is my wife pretending to kiss the fish. Of course, the guys on the Moto had few things to say about her kissing it instead of me!

This set is a group of photos that were taken in a small rice and vegetable farming village called Banh hom. It is located down-river from Vientiane, and just up-river of the "Friendship Bridge". These photos were taken during the "Lao New Years festival", or "Pii-Mai". This event occurs in April, which is the end of the hot, dry season, and the beginning of the rainy season. In Lao countryside the New Years celebrations are much more rooted to traditional to Buddhist and family ceremonies, than the wild water fights that have evolved the larger cities in Laos and Thailand.

By the way, Eddie Jones is my fishing and duck hunting mentor. Eddie taught me many things, but mostly how to be innovative and think outside the box. Eddie has forgot more than most anglers will ever know about fishing, and that's from bluegills to blue marlin.

it is a long way from the water to the riverside walkway where the man with the pole and his partner with the landing (hoop) net on a rope are standing. After a minute or two of leading and reeling in the tired fish the team made ready to bring out of the water after taking its last breath of the river water. The big silver-sided animal looked 22-26 inches long at least; a thing of power and great, gleaming beauty in life. Its muscle mass filleted and cooked tenderly, it probably exhibited another sort of beauty some hours after this photo was taken in mid-morning on Monday before the winter solstice.

With awareness of PFOS "forever" chemicals loose in the water and air, updated guides to eating wild fish are attracting readers, echoing the concern about mercury accumulation in aquatic bodies since the 1960s. See

While fishing the Mississippi River I found the barge traffic fascinating. These giant barges went up and down the river pushed by large tugboat. This one was going down river and seem to just smoothing glide through the water, but the ones going up river made a large wake that made our boat rock back and forth. On one occasion apparently we got too close to the channel and they kept blowing their horn to make sure everyone stay away for safety reasons.

I was curious about how fast the river was running so I took our boat, headed up river. At about 2.5 MPH I could stay stationary in the water. This was typical unless you rounded a bend in the river and the current definitely increased. Sometimes our little 50 HP motors had a difficultly moving forward. This area was where the popular movie "Grumpy Old Men" was filmed.

Autumn is the time for salmon to come in from the sea to their spawning grounds after swimming thousands of miles. Here we see a fly-fishing angler trying his luck in waders in a stretch of the River Glazert

Given the time of this photo he must have been very tight to the end of the river's end of Permit Season

My son would rather be fishing or hunting than anything in the world. I believe he was almost five years old in this picture.

Coricle

From: St Fagans: National History Museum

The coracle is a small bowl-shaped, keel-less boat, which has been in use on Welsh rivers for many centuries. A strap attached to the coracle enables the vessel to be carried on his back. They are used for fishing now only on the Teifi, Tywi and Taf, but their numbers have been greatly reduced over the years and only a few licences are issued each year.

What will your favourite item be?

This tank was set up for Hagen for only four days. I set this up to help launch their new Osaka glass tanks, at the global pet expo. It was sad having to break it down as soon as the fish got comfortable.

Caught an absolutely gorgeous day last week in Rocky Mountain National Park. This photo was taken by my good friend Clay, but, I did quite a bit of postprocessing to it.

Alex and I had our first river spin fishing experience at this beautiful stretch of the River Hodder near Chaigley). Alex hooked a lovely (and big) rainbow trout but lost it because I was faffing about trying to get a picture whilst he was landing it! Later Alex landed a brown trout, which was released as it was only around 10cm in length. We both enjoyed a fantastic couple of hours "in" and beside the river.

Another attempt to photograph the Mississippi River with my little canon camera in a moving boat. This was early in the morning looking up the river and color was unnecessary to capture the nearly silhouette look of the rising sun. A slight fog had not risen from the water yet so some distant objects were obscured from view
