Klingon gagh? No, just live river eels on the market (Lang Sơn, Vietnam)

This really looks like Gagh, the famous Klingon delicacy in the StarTrek TV series. Best eaten fresh and alive!

I just noticed that all the eels plunge their head down, so all you see are bodies and tails, no heads! I like the bubbles, too...

Scale: about 60 cm (2 feet) from left to right.

Marc Krupa snapped this shot of me holding his a huge musky back in 1999, near Montreal. Much larger ones were seen in that area over the years. Fish was released after photo.

The fishermen on the Nile use these small boats and nets to catch a variety of tasty fish that are offered in the local restaurants.

A huge Inconnu is on the line. A minute later, the hook actually broke! I'm using a two-handed fly rod (9 weight).

Alex and I had our first river spin fishing experience at this beautiful stretch of the River Hodder near Chaigley). Alex hooked a lovely (and big) rainbow trout but lost it because I was faffing about trying to get a picture whilst he was landing it! Later Alex landed a brown trout, which was released as it was only around 10cm in length. We both enjoyed a fantastic couple of hours "in" and beside the river.

Finishing up a day's fishing on the Fraser River above Fort Langley. Glorious to be out on the water this late in the year and be somewhat comfortable.

Even fish like a good peeled orange it appears.

These are Huchen, the European sub-species and ‘cousin” of Taimen. Taimen are well known by anglers who undertake fly fishing expeditions to Siberia, Mongolia or the Russian Pacific coast in search of the largest salmonid catchable on a fly. These are Mur River stock adults and sub-adults. The enormous female in this photo is an adult but less coloured than a male would be of equivalent size.

not bothered...looking for fish actually !

Another picture I took while in Minnesota fishing on the Mississippi River with my wife's pocket camera. We left early one morning to go fishing and I snapped a few before we left the dock. Yes....everyone else wondered why I was taking pictures, but I am use to that look from other people.

Sea run cutthroat/ sculpin eater:) These fish are pure grease lightening in the hand. Can't believe it let me get this!

Ilish (Bengali: ইলিশ Ilish) also spelled Elish, is a popular fish to eat among the people of the sub-continent. A tropical fish, it is the most popular fish with Bengalis and Oriyas, the national fish of Bangladesh and extremely popular in parts of India such as West Bengal, Orissa, Tripura, Assam.

Each year a large number of fish are caught in the Padma-Meghna-Jamuna delta, which flows into the Bay of Bengal. It is a sea fish but it lay eggs in large rivers. After being born the young Ilish (known as Jatka) then swim back to the sea. They are caught before they swim to the sea. Ilish is also caught from the sea.

The fish is full of tiny bones which require trained eating/hands to handle. The Ilish lives in the sea for most of its life, but migrates up to 1,200 km inland through rivers in the Indian sub-continent for spawning. Distances of 50–100 km are usually normal in the Bangladesh rivers. In Bangladesh, Ilish is mainly caught in the Padma (lower Ganges), Meghna (lower Brahmaputra), and Jamuna rivers. Those from the Padma are considered to be the best in taste.

Shorshe Ilish, a dish of smoked ilish with mustard seeds, has been an important part of Bengali cuisine. In Bengal, ilish can be smoked, fried, steamed, baked in young plantain leaves, prepared with mustard seed paste, curd, Begun (eggplant), different condiments like jira and so on.

It is said that people can cook ilish in more than 50 ways. Ilish roe is also popular as a side dish. Ilish can be cooked in very little oil since the fish itself is very oily.

I am just guessing that this oil freight train came from Canada. I think the Canadian Pacific operate on one side of the Mississippi River and the Burlington Norther on the other side in Lake City Minnesota.

I took this and several other photos while fishing the river.

Cowichan River, Vancouver Island

Took a fishing trip to Pippin Lake in Minnesota which is part of the Mississippi River, but didn't find much to photograph. I kept my wife's little canon camera hanging on my belt all the time, but it was difficult to fish the moving water and take pictures. This is one of the sunset when we were fishing late from a moving boat.

A large river fish. We bought it for the astomomical sum of about $20, and it fed a whole bunch of people... That is my wife pretending to kiss the fish. Of course, the guys on the Moto had few things to say about her kissing it instead of me!

This set is a group of photos that were taken in a small rice and vegetable farming village called Banh hom. It is located down-river from Vientiane, and just up-river of the "Friendship Bridge". These photos were taken during the "Lao New Years festival", or "Pii-Mai". This event occurs in April, which is the end of the hot, dry season, and the beginning of the rainy season. In Lao countryside the New Years celebrations are much more rooted to traditional to Buddhist and family ceremonies, than the wild water fights that have evolved the larger cities in Laos and Thailand.
