Photographed this little group on the Great Western Canal at Tiverton, Devon.
The parents look proud of their little brood and quite rightly so as they must have invested a considerable amount of time and hard work in getting them to this stage. Hopefully, at this point in their development they are relatively safe from predation although nothing is certain in nature. The best of luck to all of them!
I had the opportunity to volunteer to help with traffic control for the Giro de Burnaby bicycle race, part of B.C. Superweek.
From time to time I had a chance to observe the race with my camera in hand.
Here are the two leaders of one of the laps.
The low sun just happened to be peaking through the buildings to put them in the spotlight.
The leader seems to be rightly pleased!
Parts of this thatched cottage date from circa 15th and 16th century and there have been further additions in later centuries.
It is located in the lovely village of Wherwell in the Test Valley, in Hampshire.
Quite rightly it is a grade 2 listed structure which provides legal protection from any substantial changes or demolition without approval from the local authority.

The line of stone toadstools on the front boundary of the house grabbed my attention although there were no pixies in sight!
This cottage in Church Street Wherwell, Hampshire dates from circa 17th century with some 19th century details added. Quite rightly it is a grade 2 listed building which gives it legal protection from demolition or alterations without prior permission from the local authority.
As the name suggests it is in the street that leads to the local Church. It is a cul de sac and therefore there is no through traffic. Quiet in the week although I imagine Sunday could be a little busier. Either way this would be my kind of living!

The only hope there is of standing righteous and acceptable before God is by receiving by faith what another has done for you. All self-attainment, self-accomplishment, self-righteousness must be abandoned realizing the vanity and hopelessness of bringing to pass our own right standing before God. We must humble ourselves before a holy God, recognize our sin, acknowledge our complete inability to remove that sin. Then we must embrace what Christ has done for us, instead of us, paying the penalty of our sin in our place in order to bring to us, by faith, a credited righteousness by which God may rightly justify us as ungodly sinners. Look to Christ and Christ alone. - Bruce Ware

For my one and only, i love you, Konstantinos. Even though I am not able to express it, i always saw you from within and I will never see you in any other way. You are the one I want to share what isn’t visible for others.
I can see it in your eyes
you want to ask -where
has this Summer gone?
well I don't rightly knowz
but, - is it not always time
for another frog-pond pose...

These small Snowy Plovers were seen at Malibu Lagoon State Beach and got a little scared (rightly so) as some crows flew overhead.
Their population is decreasing and they have been listed as threatened under provisions of the Endangered Species Act.
Apparently the sunset was the talk of town yesterday (i.e. trending topic on social media in the country). Quite rightly so, it was unusually dramatic. Incidentally, that lake is named Rauðavatn which means 'Red water'. This is the reddest I seen it.
A view of the run-off from Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone NP. Obviously the spring (pool) is the diva, and rightly so, but do a 180 while standing on the boardwalk and see what there is to see: it might be equally memorable but in a different way.

It's very hard to come to Glencoe and shoot something different. when you drive up the A82 there are tripods set up all along the way and rightly so....this place is stunning. I find myself at the usual spots trying to avoid the usual shots. It's almost impossible so i try my hardest to mix it up a bit and put the postcard views in the background.
Colossal and marvelous, the 'White Lion' Double Daffodil is rightly name! my only problem with them is they are to top heavy to stand up like the other Daffodils.
At one time, this area was part of the Great Wood of Caledon. For 2000 years it has been felled, upsetting the balance of nature. Much has been rightly made of the landowners evicting the population to make way for sheep farms, but part of that transformation was also the removal of the forest. There are still sheep on the land, preventing the forest from re-establishing itself and the few ancient trees that are still hanging on are dying out. There are plots of alien trees being grown up there, Sitka Spruce, Lodgepole Pine and Japanese Larch but these do not provide the same habitat, have no vibrant understorey or wildlife. Until the landowners are forced to rewild then these wonderful vibrant woods will soon be lost forever.

What a place to live!
The two hundred foot tall volcanic plug that marks the summit of Roque Nublo is well seen from this summit plateau view. The plug was formed through a volcanic eruption 4.5 million years ago since when the softer surrounding rocks have been eroded to leave this most distinctive structure.
The hiker on the extreme left quite rightly is seen capturing the summit plateau view.
During a wonder around the ruins of the old Roman city Dougga you can't help but consider who else has trodden the same steps. Settlements at Thugga as it was known had been created by a series of cultures, Numid and Punic being among them. The first settlements date back to 4th century BC and most of the Roman development took place in the 2nd and 3rd century AD. At its peak there was a population of 10,000 within the Roman City.
The sprawling site is now quite rightly UNESCO registered and is also regarded as the most intact and largest Roman ruins in North Africa.
Collett design 'Castle' Class 4-6-0 5043 'Earl of Mount Edgcumbe' raises the echoes at Salterwath as it puts on an impressive performance climbing to Shap summit, working 1Z43 06:56 Birmingham New Street to Carlisle Vintage Trains' 'Shap Mountaineer' on Saturday 16th March 2024.
NB: Taken with kind permission of the landowner. It must be pointed out that, due to a recent thoughtless act of a photographer not closing the farm gates behind upon leaving the field, and resulting in the escape of livestock, the landowner has now quite rightly placed this much favoured location and all adjoining fields strictly out of bounds, without his express prior permission. 'No Entry' signs have been placed on the access gates accordingly.

"Patience is a noble virtue, and, when rightly exercised, does not fail of its reward." George Washington.
For my second sunrise on our autumn trip to Berchtesgaden National Park, I chose the Hintersee, one of the most impressive lakes in Bavaria, and surely one of the most photographed in all of Germany. Although the whole area around the lake offers wonderful views, there are two small islets that attract the main attention of landscape photographers. The small trees that grow out of these rocks seem to have been deliberately placed there to create a scene that could well be taken from a fantasy novel.
After parking the car still in the dark night, I walked with my torch along the shore of the lake, until a few minutes later the silhouettes of these magical beings appeared before me. A sky covered in clouds did not invite me to think of a great sunrise. Soon two other photographers arrived when I had already found my composition, and moments later the rain made an appearance destroying the reflection in the calm waters of the lake. The situation wasn´t promising at all, and soon I was alone in the storm. Patiently I decided to wait, and make some videos of those unwanted raindrops. Suddenly, the sun began to appear from the side and its light quickly changed the scene, impregnating everything with an almost unreal golden aura, also the rain stopped and the reflection reappeared. My patience had rewarded me once again, and I couldn't feel more fortunate, the wait helped me capture that ephemeral, but eternal moment in my memory and in my photography.

In my last post, a couple of my friends rightly pointed out that Christmas could be a lonely time for many people. How is that so? Christmas is a time of merriness and joy, but for those who are suffering from PTSD (and, of course, not only them) it is a time of anxiety. Situations like meeting new people, being in a noisy crowded room, are stressful for PTSD or trauma survivors. They are already putting a smiley-face mask on. But, life has a habit of going on.
And for the rest of us, who are trying to find the best recipe for stuffing that turkey for the extended family visiting over Christmas, it’s OK. No one is a superhero.
So, just breathe. Or better still, get outdoors.
During the total eclipse of the sun yesterday, there was an amazing moment of silence that I believe many people noticed. I believe the dramatic celestial event surprised viewers such that reverent silence was a widespread response. That reverence reflected the majesty and wonder of the creation of our universe. And rightly so. In those moments, I thought of how I might feel when I meet my Creator, the God who made all of creation, and who knows me by name. I think I will be silent and awestruck then as well.

Look…I know that you both might find this a little boring after your exciting adventure to the Planet Loony….But rules are rule….And the rules state that before you can fly any more missions with Halo, you have to pass some simple tests……And the first one is how many roses are showing on the cover in front of you….Nine you say…And rightly so…..Now Betty, I want you to rest your left paw in front of you….And Disney, I want you to do your right…And no looking at each other whilst you are doing it….Wow…..Well done the both of you…Now just one more final test and then you are clear to go….And the final test is what is the new code of electronic safe where the treat fund is kept that has been recently changed by Halo under the lame excuse that someone has been bleeding it dry…..(As if)…What do you mean, that you are under orders not to disclose the code to anyone…Especially not to me…..And now you say that you have to run to help Halo get ready for the next Sheltie mission….Ummmmm…So much for my get rich plan
Corno del Renon prides itself with the prettiest 360° view in South Tyrol - and rightly so! “For who wishes to see all of Tyrol at one sight shall climb these heights”, thus wrote Ludwig Purtscheller, mountaineer of the later 19th century, about Rittner Horn/Corno del Renon. And, if you’ve ever experienced the vastness that opens in front of you up there, if you’ve ever felt that rush of goosebumps at the sight of so much unfiltered beauty, you will surely agree with Purtscheller: The view at the top here reaches 360° to the horizon and back - absolutely open, clear and unobstructed. The onlooker’s eyes roam from the Dolomites - UNESCO World Heritage Site – spreading in one arch from southeast to south, over the summits of Peitlerkofel/Sass de Putia to the Geißlerspitzen/Gruppo delle Odle peaks, to Schlern/Sciliar and further on over Rosengarten/Catinaccio to Latemar all the way to Schwarzhorn/Corno Nero and Weißhorn/Corno Bianco.

"Through the efforts of men and women who appreciate the plant that blooms for us every day of the year, Hawaii may rightly be called the Land of the Hibiscus."
- Gerrit P. Wilder, 1921
Modern tropical hibiscus hybrids are truly spectacular, with large flowers and wide variety in color and form, as seen in this section.
These botanical treasures simply would not exist without Hawai'i's pioneering hibiscus breeders. Their impact on the world is clear: Nearly every modern hybrid descends from an early Hawaii hybrid!
Today, breeders throughout the islands and around the world continue to perpetuate Hawaii's legacy of creating and sharing beauty.
I was paying another visit to the Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life again recently with my dad. The museum, in Coatbridge, preserves aspects of the industrial heritage (Scotland being rightly known for its engineering innovations - that reputation was reputedly one reason Rodenberry wanted his engineer on the original Enterprise to be Scottish).
I took a bunch of pics, but I also felt like some of these large, industrial machines were almost like sculptures, when viewed in close-up, and monochrome, so I took a number of shots around some of the larger machinery that was sitting in the outdoors part of the museum (just because I could, and why not, they are interesting shapes and textures!)

A Global Shift - A Sparticus moment in European history
Today - there is a shift in global consciousness - a steadfast and increasing solidarity against Putin and his regime. There is huge momentum - the tide has turned.
Not against the Russian people - they too want their freedom from repression.
Putin has taken a step too far with appalling timing too.
The world has spent the last 2 years trying to save the lives of millions of people from Covid. This is a spectacular mis-judgement by Putin not to acknowledge this. Without empathy, how could he know this? It's a colossal mistake.
In knowing the truth of the situation, Russian soldiers do not have the motivation to kill their Ukrainian brothers and sisters and the Ukrainians, rightly, are doing everything they can possibly do to defend their right to liberty and freedom against an oppressor and ultimately they will be victorious.
Glory to Ukraine.
I stand by Ukraine and all who protect her.

...And he says his government sees "no need" for its neighbours to take further action that will "make our relations worse".
Reversed: "make our relations worse", so I can use that to justify my next move.

Barque James Craig is rightly famous around the world. She is Sydney’s only 19th Century square rigger (or Tall Ship) and her incredible restoration to full sailing condition was recognised in 2003 by the World Ship Trust’s award of their prestigious Maritime Medal. Her restoration cost almost $A30 million and took nearly 40 years to complete after she was rescued from Recherche Bay in far southern Tasmania.
Located in an old fort whose bastions offer an exceptional view of the sea, the port and the lower town. The collection greenhouses are full of treasures: fragrant or aromatic plants, plants from all over the world, orchids, begonias...
On the last Wednesday of the month, workshops are open to children and adults. A facilitator and a gardener welcome you on site.
The Hanging Gardens make up a set with a landscape vocation that fits rightly into the imposing military setting of the fort in which they took place.
The central courtyard hosts the collection greenhouses, the trial gardens, the green carpet and the collection of scented plants, while the upper promenade offers visitors an exceptional view of the city and the Seine estuary, while linking the four thematic gardens created in the former bastions.
A tea room, a rose garden and monumental works of art complete the ensemble for the pleasure of the visitor.

In the shadows of contemplation
the ethereal 'sound' of light, passing
no dream unseen
only a footnote clue tuning
from a sunset sheen
where bitterness fails energy prevails
in the air beneath the sky
the inevitable change
of a constant supply
with life upon life in exchange
defy me to withstand oppression
deny me a place to stand at all
decry my beliefs and humble dreams
to die is not an option at all
and living can neither deny nor defy such extremes
this anywhichway is going nowhere
it can't even wake me up
from the very deepest sleep
the ditheism of life and death in close-up
it's signs and ways are un-prettily steep
give me shelter in the life I know
if I believe...tell me
what will eventually matter?
in the distinction of finality, rightly or wrongly-
failure to feel anything may ultimately have no answer
I want to cry...sometimes
when wounds cannot open
such distempered diagnoses need putting away
back to where this all begun
the fading day has only time to betray...
the unseen cannot get out of my eyes
it's shell cracks open fears
of reticence in retraction
I felt the pain of contorted tears
it's existence is bloody well certain
spitting it out in it's free-falling reign
the god of polemic internal turmoil
a spine of numbing uselessness
and a combustible heart of emotional embroil
for which life itself must remain forever blameless.

They that have power to hurt and will do none,
That do not do the thing they most do show,
Who, moving others, are themselves as stone,
Unmoved, cold, and to temptation slow:
They rightly do inherit heaven's graces
And husband nature's riches from expense;
They are the lords and owners of their faces,
Others but stewards of their excellence.
The summer's flower is to the summer sweet
Though to itself it only live and die,
But if that flower with base infection meet,
The basest weed outbraves his dignity:
For sweetest things turn sourest by their deeds;
Lilies that fester smell far worse than weeds.

The impressive dome of the Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (Madonna tal-Karmnu), in Valletta. It is, rightly, one of the most famous churches in Malta and a World Heritage Site. It was built in 1570, although it was badly damaged in World War II and rebuilt in 1958.

When I came around the corner and saw this, I really couldn't tell what the building was - or more to the point, had been. It is clearly now a hotel - because there are two signs that say so.
In a nutshell - it was the front of a printing factory. Art nouveau I believe. The factory was demolished but they rightly kept the façade - and then built a new structure behind.
Surely one of the most beautiful factories...ever.
There is more info on the web, of course - which can be found by searching Edward Everard, Bristol.
I used to know someone who lived on a street called Everard Close or similar and he always pronounced it as Everitt.
Recently visited the villages of Turville and Hambleden in the Chiltern Hills, quite rightly designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty {AONB}. Like so many villages, many of the buildings are very old and pre date the invention of the motor vehicle meaning cars are parked everywhere in the streets!
This building is the Bull and Butcher pub/restaurant in Turville. It was built in 1550 and is a grade 2 listed building which gives it legal protection from any major building work or changes without the prior consent of the local authority.
The designation of the Chiltern Hills as an AONB means that some villages are an attraction to film makers for both television and cinema. The Bull and Butcher has featured in at least 2 different episodes of the television series Midsomer Murders. The village as a whole has been used in the filming of the Vicar of Dibley, Goodnight Mr Tom, Chitty, Chitty Bang Bang and Killing Eve.
Returning to the trove of vantage points to shoot from inside Ely Cathedral, this image was captured from the top of the building's octagonal tower, more than 100ft up. The view encompasses the seats in the north transept, the choir stalls and presbytery to the east, and the stained-glass windows surrounding the central podium directly below. The opportunity to photograph this perspective came during an hour-long tour of the Cathedral, which included a visit to the rooftop around the tower, as well as a glimpse behind the tower's wooden panel walls, which open out and allow a dizzying view both upwards towards the roof and downwards to the ground below.
The tour was moving at a swift pace so this image was captured handheld, resting the camera on the ledge of the tower and using a wide aperture and high ISO to ensure a fast shutter speed and sharp finish. I shot nine bracketed exposures, manually aligning these in Photoshop before using luminosity masks to blend the exposures, which allowed for a balanced finish between the mid-morning light streaming through the windows and the deep shadows in the Cathedral's corners. I then used the Pen Tool to isolate the windows, the arches and the ground, which enabled me to colour-grade the various segments of the scene individually, as well as to target and blend in my bracketed exposures. I used a darker exposure for the lower-left arch, where the intensity of the sunlight was slightly distracting, and brighter exposures (using a combination of radial and reflective gradient masks) to add emphasis to the seats in the north transept, the memorial brass between the choir stalls, the panelling along the tip of the arch above the choir, and the striking timber fan-vaulting on top of the stone pillars.
My aim with this image was to convey the immense scale and magnificence of the building, but I was eager for the look and tone to be consistent with my previous two images from the location, and also wary of a very busy image because of the sheer amount of detail in the frame. For these reasons, I opted for a more muted palette, retaining the vibrant colours in the Cathedral's windows while desaturating much of the rest of the image and focusing on a cold shade of cyan along the tower's stone pillars and a warm mixture of orange and magenta along the timber. This was achieved by using Hue/Saturation and Selective Colour adjustments, as well as Apply Image to layer-mask two Colour Balance adjustments, and finally two low-opacity Colour Lookups set to Soft Light and using the Crisp Warm preset for the highlights and Futuristic Bleak for the shadows.
Using Nik's Silver Efex Pro set to Luminosity, I lowered the overall midtone exposure and increased the Soft Contrast, which helped to draw emphasis to the stunning light striking the stone pillars and casting a glow across the ground of the building, and then used Control Points to selectively add structure to the timber in order to bring out its texture. In Colour Efex Pro, I applied a very small amount of the Dark Contrasts filter to mute the highlights along the stone pillars, as well as a sparing amount of Tonal Contrast to lower the structure of the shadows and tighten the contrast in the highlights.
Having photographed Ely Cathedral at ground level, I was excited to try to convey something of the exhilarating experience of standing at the top of what is rightly described as one of the wonders of the medieval world. Aside from the artistry of the building's architecture and the remarkable attention to detail in its carvings, taking in the Cathedral from this viewpoint seemed to highlight what an extraordinary engineering feat it was to construct something so vast nearly 800 years ago.
