Hike through the headquarters of the drumlins. This area in the Swiss canton of Zug is known for its many small hills (called drumlins). A single tree was planted on most of the prominent hills decades ago. Entering the area off the trails is undesirable and will get you into trouble with the farmers. And rightly so!

Some places give the impression that bygone centuries had passed them by without leaving a trace. Stolberg, a medieval-style town of half-timbered houses in the southern part of the Harz mountains, is one of them. Perhaps because Stolberg is romantically nestled in four narrow valleys of this low mountain range at an altitude of 300 - 350 meters above sea level.

The small mediëval town of Stolberg, with about 1400 inhabitants, is rightly referred to as the "Pearl of the Southern Harz", consisting as it does entirely of half-timbered houses, over 500 in total, with a handsome renaissance castle rising above them.

Stolberg (Lower Saxony, Germany) owes its buildings' excellent state of preservation to its inhabitants, who have looked after their home town over the years with enormous care and devotion.

Stolberg was awarded the title of "Historic European City" in 1993.

And rightly so from every poll ever taken (I think). Cool that the Barn Owl was number 2 on the most recent one though.

Taken from the garden in Norfolk. I can't believe how quickly the local birds get through my sunflower seeds - I need to fill the double length feeder every day - there are often 15 plus birds in the cherry tree squabbling to get access.

Can't complain though as they are wonderful to watch and hear.

Sunrise mirrored in calm waters of small Molyvos harbor Molyvos (ancient Mithymna) is located at the northern tip of the island of Lesbos and is considered one of the most picturesque destinations in Greece. Its houses, built amphitheatrically on a hillside, facing the "north" of the Aegean, combine the robustness of the stone folk houses with the neoclassical elegance or Venetian influences of mansions and public buildings - all evenly covered with red tiled roofs - and provide a unique graphic set, completely different from the Cycladic style. The Greek Ministry of Culture has rightly declared Molivos as a protected traditional settlement with very strict building rules. If we add to this all the wonderful, well-preserved Byzantine castle that "crowns" the settlement and the hurried waters of the small harbor, which mirror and double this beauty, we understand the magic that the happy visitor of the place feels and that there is no one who has visited Molivos and does not want to come back there!

Another view of the south side of the Brisbane River from New Farm, sand barge this time. The construction in the foreground is part of the old wharf for delivery of coal by barge to the now closed New Farm Powerhouse which is extant and repurposed as the Brisbane Powerhouse, a performing arts complex. If you zoom in, you will see a rather luxurious home on the banks of the river below the bushland on the hill. It's been there a few years now but if I remember rightly, when built it was much lighter timber as I believe it was constructed of cedar (well, that colour anyway). I don't know if the timber has naturally changed colour with age or been painted.

Here is the second day of Pentecost and it's a legal holiday in Romania, so I'll enjoy it with my cats and dogs.

I wish you all a lovely new week ahead!

Sadly only 120-130 remain in the wild, they are considered endangered and rightly so as human encroachment through development has destroyed much of their habitat. I am grateful that the state has created a wildlife corridor for all wildlife to move about , yet still the Panther has been victim mostly to traffic accidents in south Florida near their main hunting grounds in the Everglades. With so many people moving here it won't be long before many other species disappear.

I will post the side window in a comment box.

Thanks to Houry for the tip and after some googling I believe its the National Famine Memorial there is one in Ireland and this one at the UN, unveiled in November, 2000, outside the United Nations building in New York City, representing those immigrants who survived the journey to America.

(A look back at some summer flowers I neglected to post.)

Shooting star flowers are unique with their beautiful reflexed petals and vibrant colors with their magenta petals and white and yellow rings with a squiggly red ring at the base. This ring has always intrigued me- is it some kind of guide for pollinators (mostly bumblebees) who “buzz” pollinate the flowers (vibration releases pollen)? Ecologists and evolutionary biologists often assume, rightly so, that markings like this have a benefit to the organism. Whether we ever understand it fully is uncertain though- sometimes I’m just content to enjoy them purely for their aesthetic value.

Shooting stars have a wide geographic distribution- this species (Primula pauciflora/ Dodecathron pulchellum) occurs throughout western North America from Mexico to Alaska, usually in moist habitats from near sea level in the northern part of the range to over 11,000 feet / 3300 m in the southern Rocky Mountains.

The "old" genus name “Dodecatheon” was bestowed by the Roman naturalist Pliny (61-113), who delighted in the flowers and believed they were protected by the 12 Roman gods.

What an absolute stunner, parked in the sales area at the Beaulieu Auto Jumble a few months ago. 37000 on the clock but if I remember rightly the price was fairly steep. This being said, the money old Fords fetch now is astonishing.

This time of year it's easy to find pics of cultivated flower fields, and rightly so. They are filled with glorious, natural colors. My approach, however, is to draw attention instead to the women and men that labor behind the scenes to bring us the flowers we enjoy. This image is part of my series "Working the Fields", Carlsbad, CA.

Perseverance is not hanging on to some course which we have set our minds to, and refusing to let go....I am coming to think that God (may He be praised in His great mystery) loves and helps best those who are beat and have so much nothing when they come to die that it is almost as if they had persevered in nothing but had gradually lost everything, piece my piece, until there was nothing left but God. Hence perseverance is not hanging on but letting go....But as you say so rightly, it is a question of His hanging on to us.

Just a bit of creative fun from this characteristic Pope, taken from Birmingham St Patrick's Day Parade in Digbeth 2024.

I enhanced the sky with some clouds, by using Luminar AI photo software, which is rather cool for doing things like this, and also added a flock of birds to accompany the Pope for this occasion.

So, many thanks for any cool comments or compliments from you here, my good flickr friends !!!

This is a re-worked version of an earlier picture. I first came to Looe with my parents in the early-mid 1950s, and was captivated by the place. I've been coming back ever since, and until two years ago had a holiday home just outside the town.

Looe is a holiday resort on the south-east coast of Cornwall. In the 19th century it was a major port, handling the export of tin and copper ore from the mines on Bodmin Moor. It subsequently became a major fishing town, and in the 1950s was the centre of the shark-fishing industry. Quite rightly, that was subsequently banned. The fishing industry also declined, and the large fish market is now barely used, with the daily auction having moved to Plymouth.

Looe remains a popular seaside resort, especially since Covid and the knock-on effects on the tourist industry. However, visitors to Cornwall are not as welcome as they once were, and we reluctantly decided to move our holiday home elsewhere. I still look forward to returning to Cornwall for a few weeks in the New Year, when we shall undoubtedly spend some time in Looe.

I wandered up over the brow of a gravelly track, not realising it was a front drive. The white haired woman (Fiona McTaggerty Taggert, without beards) met me as she stepped out of her elderly Hyundai. She explained the rusty old truck was her son's. He's now 50 if she remembers rightly and he bought it to do up one day. Somehow that day seems to have slipped by and his dreams of a restored old truck lie rotting away in an out of sight quarry behind the Tioram cafe. She explained some vandals got to it and smashed it up. I imagine it was pristine before that

The sun was shining but it was still cold as we stood on the lip of the falls at Gulfoss. These falls are situated within easy reach of Icelands capital, Reykjavik and as such are a rightly popular tourist destination. There are three key attractions within the so called Golden Circle, Thingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall, and Geysir geothermal area and most visitors to the island take some form of trip to see these natural wonders.

We were lucky as we had hired a car for ten days and could take our time to make our circuit of the island. This meant that the crowds that were out of sight behind me when I took this photo were soon in the most part left behind.

This will probably be my only addition to the Inktober group, as I don't think I could keep up with the output that other people produce, and rightly so, it's quite an immense talent out there!

Possessing a singularity like few others, Buachaille Etive Mòr rightly demands to be the CENTRE of attention in a panoramic context. This effort therefore has always sat a little uncomfortably with me & could well be deemed sacrilege by the Buachaille's genuine admirers.

Trying to be clever is neither big nor clever.

Parakeets are skilled at many things, one of which is craning their necks around to check for cats. They are always very cautious before they descend down to the bird feeders and rightly so as there are one or two visiting cats now who don't hesitate to leap up high or shin up trees in hot pursuit.

This shot is taken on Ringmoor Down above Sheepstor village . Below on the right is the Burrator Reservoir.

The lone hawthorn has probably been photographed many times....I think it is there for our benefit to provide foreground interest! So it would be ungracious not to use it ;-)

If I remember rightly, I think this photo was taken early evening of the autumn equinox.

The southern shores of Lake McDonald are rightly considered one of the best viewpoints of Glacier Park. Alas, because most visitors to the park enter this way they also stop and these shores become overcrowded. It would seem that the answer is to visit at the very start or end of the season. Our visit coincided with the last week the "Going to the Sun Road" was open so we really dropped on.

Loch Stack is a lonely and wild place in the far north west of Scotland. A windy single track road goes past it, and this accessibility makes it rightly popular with photographers. In many cases you will see this view across Loch Stack to the great Quartzite lump that is Arkle, with a boarded up shed in the foreground. I have a few of those shots too, but decided that I liked the fleeting light on the little Birch trees that dot the boggy shoreline.

The monumental St.Volodymyr's Cathedral that stands opposite to the capital's Botanical Garden is reckoned among the most beautiful temples in Kyiv. Built by the best architects and painted by the prominent artists of their time, it is rightly considered the true work of art having high artistic value. It is not only Ukraine's capital's token cultic building, but one of its most fascinating architectural sights.

It was built in the late 19th century in honor of the great Prince Vladimir, who in the late 10th century baptized Kyivan Rus. Its design was executed in neo-Byzantine style. It is a traditional six-piered, three-apsed temple crowned by seven cupolas.

St.Volodymyr's Cathedral yellow exterior and blue domes conform to standard Byzantine style.

Please refer to previous picture this is a painting I have of the above Church painted by my late neighbour, He didn't go and look at the Churches just did his artwork from a mono pic in a book, I believe his daughter (quite rightly) has that book

Not every floating log in a swamp is a log...it might be an alligator's tail!

Alligators are fairly often seen around water in Southern Florida. This one was seen partially submerged at Audubon Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary.

The floating plants, often mistaken for Duckweed, are actually Water Fern (Salvinia minima).

For my Flickr buddy Ger Bosma who rightly doesn't like to get his feet wet in swamps. But caution Ger...the alligators also walk on sidewalks in Florida !

A splash of colour from the forests of Selva Verde in Costa Rica. The tanagers are a fabulous group of birds but the Summer Tanager quite rightly stands out even amongst its cousins.

Los Angeles has the dubious "honor" of having the worst traffic in the USA. I believe that the honor has been rightly deserved. Though there seems to be a core of courteous drivers, the crush of traffic is horrible on city street as well as highways.

Yet, driving is essential to travel between local areas. There is an efficient, but still rudimentary Metro, and an extensive bus system that gets stuck in the same traffic as drivers of autos.

This picture shows how I felt after a day of driving in L.A.

I spotted this as I was walking my dog and could only have one shot at it. I showed it at a club critique evening and used a dodgy crop that rightly got feedback........this is the corrected version based on their comments.

Quite rightly.....coming home to Delaware from the Outer Banks, I requested and got permission for a U-turn when we passed this field of rapeseed....Thanks Pat,( and thanks Donovan)

Sometimes it takes the visit of a pal from overseas to get you out and about to take in the local attractions. Fountains Abbey really is a gem and is rightly accorded UNESCO heritage status. The Abbey was founded in 1132 and dissolved by Henry VIII in 1539 with the result that much of it was destroyed as seen here. The Abbey and adjacent Studley Royal gardens make for a fine afternoon out at any time of the year.

Trying a new kind of post processing ... just for fun !!!

While Paris can rightly claim to be one of the great cities of the world, it is really only the brightest jewel in the bling crown of France.

To fully appreciate all that is wonderful about a country that gave the world Monet, champagne and the croissant, time must be spent exploring the rivers and valleys of the countryside where the nation's spirit flows freely.

With the rumours of the potential demise of Flickr I have been giving some thought to where I might find another place like it ... and I don't have a good answer.

Flickr has been (and hopefully will remain) a place to share and to be inspired unlike any other place I have encountered in 'cyber-space.' Although I have been critical of many of the changes that have been made to the site over the years (and complementary to other changes) I have remained a steadfast participant on an almost daily basis for close to 10 years now. Why? It's simple really ... because of the people I have 'met' here. Many good and some great photographers yes .... but much more importantly many good and some truly great people who ... although we will likely never meet face-to-face ... have been an almost daily part of my life in a small but important way. Flickr managed somehow to successfully mimic a true community and achieved just about the right mix of intensity and casualness of interaction that allows a truly international and marvelously varied group of individuals with a common interest to connect in a very human and supportive way!

To all my Flickr friends (you know who you are) ... without Flickr as a connector we are in real danger of 'losing touch.' I promise I am not a sentimental (old) fool ... I might be rightly accused of being old but I doubt I have ever been tagged as 'sentimental.' I have thoroughly enjoyed our sometimes daily, sometimes weekly, and sometimes less often 'meetings' over the years and don't want to see it gone. The solution escapes me for the moment ... suggestions?

Please feel free to share this 'question' that I pose ... no doubt in the vast number of connections that we have collectively made there is someone with a bright idea. I hope the discussion goes viral and in-so-doing Flickr gets recognized as a worthy 'meeting place' that can be sustained and maybe even made profitable?

- Keefer Lake, Ontario, Canada -

P.S. I don't think Facebook is the answer. :)

"It is only with the heart that one can see rightly"

quote from The Little Prince, by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

I'm feeling appreciative today.

I really admire the effort it takes for designers to make the things they do. The hours put in to fashioning an object - even virtually, is more often than not a process of hours sometimes days.

I like to include attribution to my posts where possible because they should quite rightly be recognised for that. Now... does that make this commercial or just giving credit where due?

Kudos and my thanks go to :

{anc} - Thank you for making this amazing surgical mask with tassels and sequins! (This was a free gift from last year at The Arcade)

Thank you Azoury - for making this wonderful hat "Yuriy Chapka". It inspired me to make these images. This creation is available at Shiny Shabby

Thank you Castiel - who made the fur collar which is part of another outfit (Innuendo) that they designed in 2013. It is still one of my favourite objects.

My thanks also to Ys&Ys for creating the Belinda skin - I love the realistic details put in to that and I'm using that in this shot with the Lelutka Simone Head. This model has very sharp features and bone structure that gives it elegance.

IKON made these eyes (Vanity SIlver Leaf)

Finally - Thank you to Skye Studios for making the Enchanted tree tunnel which makes season changing as simple as a click of the mouse! :)
