Strange that this picture is a "what makes me, me!" But it surely is.
I have lived either in the San Francisco Bay Area or in Ventura, CA since 1982. Many, many family members live/have lived in Ventura County or the Bay Area, as well, for generations.
There are 365 miles between SF and Ventura, so a travel option is to drive on US Highway 101. I have basically worn a groove on that route -- perhaps I've taken in 200-ish times [?] since I was a kid.
When I travel with a family member or good friend, the ritual is to stop to eat at Keefer's (which is now Margie's Diner, but will always be Keefer's) in King City, halfway between VTA and SF. When I'm on my own, I have my own routine:
Take the Canal St. exit in King City, get gas at the 76 next to Keefer's Inn, then go to the Von's on the other side of the freeway, pick up snacks, then to the coffee shop for a double soy latte.
The current coffee shop name is the Fire House. This is a picture of a fire hose they have as decoration in the shop.
This trip, I really tried to take pictures of some of the more interesting landmarks on 101, but I have a tendency to get White Line Fever and am unable to break stride (that is, slow down).
This route is one of the things that solidify my identity as a Californian. It can be a beautiful or boring or hair-raising ride. I have had more adventures on this route that I can count. I see cows and sheep and kitsch and farms and too many CHP in the rear-view mirror. I smell the garlic in Gilroy and ogle the deep pink Madonna Inn. Road games have been played obsessively while the miles roll by. I recall snippets of the thousands of conversations with my mother, my family, my friends, my boyfriends -- even strangers I've found on craigslist rideshare.
Someday I will slow down and I'll take photos of the Gonzales water tower; the Madonna Inn at Christmastime; the Black Oak trees in spring; the giant painted portraits of farmers mounted in the field; the ghost-like Santa Claus lane; the old barns and cars and side-of-the-road weirdness; and me -- while I put the pedal to the medal.

A new billboard on Hennepin Ave in downtown Minneapolis from “Ride Sure”. Per it’s website, the campaign by the owner of Blue & White Taxi wants to debunk what it says are myths that rideshare is a better alternative to taxis.

Technicians prepare to remove the protective casing covering NASA’s Carruthers Geocorona Observatory on Monday, July 21, 2025, at the Astrotech Space Operations Facility near the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The Carruthers Geocorona Observatory is a small satellite set to operate at Lagrange Point 1 (L1), an orbit point between the Earth and Sun about one million miles away. Carruthers will use its ultraviolet cameras to monitor how space weather from the Sun impacts the exosphere, the outermost part of Earth’s atmosphere. The observatory will launch as a rideshare with NASA’s (Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe) no earlier than September 2025. Photo credit: NASA/Kim Shiflett

Starting life as a normal stock civilian casting but destined to live out its days as a Taxi due to very silly cost cutting ie. cutting a hole in the roof and having a cheapo TAXI sign moulded as part of the glazing. Shame really as this is actually quite a nice vibrant and modern new recolour. Part of Case F found recently at Tesco. Mint and boxed.

On September 17, 2010, Veterans Transportation Service (VTS) offered its first official ride to a Veteran. VTS, located organizationally within the Chief Business Office, is a sub-initiative of the Transformational Initiative Enhancing Veteran Experience and Access to Healthcare. The first ride occurred in Central Texas Veterans Health Care System at the Temple Texas site, which is one of four initial pilot sites for the program. The other three sites are Ann Arbor, MI; Muskogee, OK; and Salt Lake City, UT.
VTS seeks to overcome barriers to VHA access, especially for Veterans who are visually impaired, elderly, or immobilized due to disease or disability, and those living in rural and highly rural areas. VTS will not only increase transportation resources and options for all Veterans, but also focus on improving efficiency of existing transportation resources through use of 21st Century technology, including ridesharing software and GPS units.
VTS will improve the quality of life for Veterans by improving their health through supporting early identification and treatment of health problems, as well as ongoing treatment of existing problems. Additionally, VTS will provide Veterans opportunities to interact with other Veterans and VHA staff to which the Veteran might not otherwise be connected.
