Day 196 of 365 (Year Three)
I have to say I really wasn't that impressed with the new Harry Potter movie. Now I completely understand that no movie is going to be exactly like the book, but there was just too much of a rewrite for my tastes. I've read reviews claiming that this is one of the best movies of the series. I guess they saw a different movie.
There were complete sequences added to the movie in order to make their rewrite fit, stuff that never happened in the book. And then there was a ton of stuff that was just taken out. Certain things were taken out or changed that make me wonder how they are going to start the next movie.
***Spoiler Alert - I am going to be talking about the movie so if you don't want to know, don't read and further!!!!***
First, the good stuff. Slughorn's character was well cast and well played. Personally, I pictured somebody a bit fatter, but he was well cast and did a great job.
The special effects were well done. The opening sequence with the Death Eaters going after Ollivander and taking down the bridge were great. Not exactly like the book, but well done nonetheless and they looked great.
I didn't even mind, too much, the removal of the Dursleys. The way that Harry was collected by Dumbledore fit rather well and worked for me.
The scenes at Diagon Alley were changed a bit too much for me, but I could still live with it. I loved the Joke Shop run by the Weasley brothers although it was too short for my tastes. They took out the scene in the robe shop and went directly to Borgin and Burkes. This is where it started to go south for me.
The scene at Borgin and Burkes was shortened and the time on the train was really cut short and they changed how he was discovered on the train. Instead of Tonks finding him, it is Luna, who just happens to wander in and find him.
Another thing that bothered me is that they took out several of the trips into the Pensive to learn about Voldemort's past. I thought that those trips were rather important. We are treated to the trip to the Orphanage and both Slughorn's modified and full memory. All the others are just taken out. How Harry is going to figure out what other Hourcruxes he should be looking for in the next movie is beyond me.
The Quidditch match was pointless. It was well done and they have come a long way since that first movie with the special effects they use for them, but the only purpose of even showing it was to set up Ron and Lavender's first kiss.
One of the biggest things I had a problem with was the destruction of the Weasley's house at Christmas. WTF? That never happens in the book. I almost stood up and yelled at that point. In the next book, once Harry leaves the Dursleys that is where everyone is eventually headed. It didn't even serve much of a purpose other than to express how much danger Harry is in. There were other ways to do that. They also skipped the Minister's visit to the Burrows to try and recruit Harry. I'm sorry, but that is just too far of a departure from the book for my tastes.
The other main thing I had a problem with was the attack on Dumbledore. The Death Eaters made it into Hogwarts, killed Dumbledore and made it out without ever raising an alarm. Yes, Harry chased them, but nobody else was involved in that battle.
All in all, I wasn't pleased. There were a few scenes that I really liked, but they were few and far between. They are talking about splitting the next movie into two parts to more fully tell the story. I am kind of wishing they had done that with this one.
When I walked out of The Order of the Phoenix I remember thinking, it wasn't 100% true to the book, but it was a good movie and kept true to the feeling of the book. I didn't get that feeling with this one.
To make matters even worse, the projector broke down three times during the showing of the film to the point that they told us that we could get our money back or see it in another theater. We ended up seeing the next showing that hadn't started already (they tried to send us to a full theater to find seats). We also got free passes for the inconvenience. I think the best part of seeing the movie today were the free passes. I really hope the next movie isn't this bad.

In mostra fino al 5 gennaio 2010. Orario: lunedì/sabato, ore 18.00/01.00.
Lo sviluppo di una ricerca personale si trasforma in una mostra collettiva alla
ricerca di autori sospesi nel mondo graffiti writing/street art. Quest’anno, pur
limitando la circolazione del bando, abbiamo superato quota 80 invitati.
Piemontesi e lombardi, famosi e sconosciuti, giovanissimi e old schooler. Ai
50 torinesi si aggiungono artisti da Milano, Varese, Vercelli, Cuneo, Novara,
Alessandria, Arona, Roma, Termoli, Ascoli, Salerno. Un esempio della
creatività che dalla strada approda nello spazio espositivo, dove perfetti
sconosciuti (al mondo delle gallerie d’arte) incontrano autori con alle spalle
un personale percorso professionale e artistico.
Due le coordinate per partecipare: la misura, rigorosamente 30 x 30 cm.

my friend hazal, a teacher of mine and i went on an adventure to suburbans of where we live. those people were living a whole lot different lives than ours, yet we were so close to each other, so as adventurers, we went there and listened them. they’re all facing the hazard of expropriation. their houses will be builded down by the government in no time, so every single person we talked asked us when they’re going to come for the destruction. they live in squatter houses filled with obscurity.
it was quite sad to see that people are losing their whole lives, not just their houses and jobs. these people are the real side of the city and that real side is dying day by day. i felt like soul of the city will be gone forever when they left.
as we were exploring around, people we met were so nice and loving. they always took their time to converse with us. we were always welcomed by a warm hello and a cup of tea. these are the kind of people i want to fill my life with.
The wording is off a bit on this long post since it was intended for last night, but internet was already off at 8pm. I am too lazy to rewrite it. If you are wondering, the time difference between Arizona and Bali is 15 hours in the future. As I write this portion the computer says it is 5pm on Sunday at home, my phone says 8am on Monday here.
This is the new temporary place for about $100/month. Not too fancy, not too bad. The A/C issue has not been resolved. It seems the remote programming was not the issue, the wall unit is broken. A technician should be out tomorrow to check on it. We slept with the windows open last night, it was not so bad. We are on the second floor and it is windy. As long as there is a breeze, it feels good. Since moving to this room a mile or two down the street we have not seen a mosquito. The down side to open windows was a temple birthday ceremony last night down the street. Sometime after 10pm there was loud procession of cymbals near our street. I was curious to see what was going on, but too tired to get out of bed. I am sure we will see another before we return anyways. There is a ceremony everyday somewhere on this island. It is hard to avoid them. As I write this I can here chanting and gamelan music in the distance. Next to me two of the family members of this property are making offerings from various parts of trees. Our room is actually part of a Balinese house/compound and English school. We are staying in her son's room while he works in Java.
We continue to settle into our conditions. It is much like going back in time while still having access to current technology. We have been washing our clothes by hand in a tub and air drying. Same goes for dishes. We have no TV. Although, the owners have offered us one. We have found many uses for the water boiler besides coffee and tea, but also for snacks and easy meals. Even though our water is supposedly from a well, we have been boiling anyways. It has a lot more haze than the bottled water. Yesterday after laundry the water went dry. There was some problem with the pump. I am surprised electricity has not been an issue. I am used to rolling black outs here from previous trips. Even on arrival day we had one at the other property. So far we have not had any at this place. I am still getting used to not having a fridge. I have not been buying cold drinks with my meals. We have learned to travel by public transportation vans (bemos) up and down the street for about $.30/adult one way. Supposedly, it will take us all the way to Kuta for that price. We have yet to find a reason to go that way. I have also found that scissors can be used in place of a sharp knife for cutting fruits and vegetables. Since yesterday I have used them to shred ginger, chop lemongrass and prepare starfruit.
Today we made a day of buying fruit to make ice juice at the house of Chintya's friend. We settled for watermelon. Her friend has a bakery, fridge and lemongrass at her house. This was three great conveniences for me. Besides having cold juice, I was able to obtain dry yeast and lemongrass. Currently, I am steeping a combination of lemongrass, ginger and sugar. Once it cools I will add the yeast and pour it into sterile water bottles. I should have a primitive batch of ginger lemon wine/beer in a week or two. I probably will not try to carbonate. Maybe just chilled and sweetened.
I think tomorrow is going to be a beach day. Maybe the day after we will head to Bedugul to see if we can hit three waterfalls and a temple. That may be too much for one day and have to split it to two trips. This Saturday we are planning a late birthday party on the beach for Laurent. Chintya's baker friend will make a cake and we will order food from a vendor or Mcdonald's. Sunday, we will probably head up to Gianyar and Bangli to visit a friend and hit a waterfall.
I have been taking so many quick cell phone pics of furniture and buildings as well as studying the construction methods here. I have so many ideas for backyard at the new house when we get home. When we get back I will start building benches, fences, bales, lanterns, fountains and temple like pillars. It will be very Balinese. We will have to bring back some ceremonial flags, umbrellas and blankets. I will have to use cuttings from our queen palms to make offering baskets.
We managed to see our land after the wedding the other day. That was a disappointment. There were no coffee plants. Had the farmer planted plants that were one year old, we might have had coffee berries by now. He says that he planted them, but they died. There are some on the land next to ours about the size I would expect. Instead, we have some chili plant seedlings. To our dismay the farmer cut some of our trees including the big avocado. On top of that he asked us for money to pay the local government to build something. Even though he keeps his cows on our land, farms our land and sells the native fruit all for free. We were told the last harvest had 50 or so durians on one tree. We suspect that the previous owner sold that land because of him. She warned Chintya about him when we bought it. Since it is costing us money instead of producing, we are thinking to rent it to our last driver to grow trees to be made into particle board in Korea.

Una mostra collettiva “ridotta”
dedicata al mondo graffiti writing / street art.

In mostra fino al 5 gennaio 2010. Orario: lunedì/sabato, ore 18.00/01.00.
Lo sviluppo di una ricerca personale si trasforma in una mostra collettiva alla
ricerca di autori sospesi nel mondo graffiti writing/street art. Quest’anno, pur
limitando la circolazione del bando, abbiamo superato quota 80 invitati.
Piemontesi e lombardi, famosi e sconosciuti, giovanissimi e old schooler. Ai
50 torinesi si aggiungono artisti da Milano, Varese, Vercelli, Cuneo, Novara,
Alessandria, Arona, Roma, Termoli, Ascoli, Salerno. Un esempio della
creatività che dalla strada approda nello spazio espositivo, dove perfetti
sconosciuti (al mondo delle gallerie d’arte) incontrano autori con alle spalle
un personale percorso professionale e artistico.
Due le coordinate per partecipare: la misura, rigorosamente 30 x 30 cm.
telaio 4 cm. e lo stile che deve rappresentare icone, tags e puppets
abitualmente spalmati sul territorio. Un mix di stili e materiali, dove lo spray
lotta con la superficie ridotta lasciando ampio spazio a marker e pennelli,
mascherine, stickers, resine e carta con, a volte, una deriva verso la pittura
pura e meno street.
La mostra collettiva ridotta ACROSS REWRITING è proposta e promossa,
grazie al contributo Regione Piemonte, dal circolo culturale AMANTES a
Torino, uno spazio al confine tra galleria d'arte e locale di svago fondato nel
1996, dove è possibile dialogare con gli autori davanti a un bicchiere e in
modo informale.
ACROSS REWRITING è un percorso di avvicinamento a "REWRITING", la
quinta edizione di una rassegna sempre rivolta al fenomeno graffiti writing /
street art ma performativa. Si svolgerà a partire dal 10 aprile 2010 e darà
modo ai visitatori di ammirare gli artisti all'opera.

In a dystopian 1984, Winston Smith endures a squalid existence in the totalitarian superstate of Oceania under the constant surveillance of the Thought Police. The story takes place in London, the capital city of the territory of Airstrip One (formerly "either England or Britain").
Winston works in a small office cubicle at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history in accordance with the dictates of the Party and its supreme figurehead, Big Brother. A man haunted by painful memories and restless desires, Winston is an everyman who keeps a secret diary of his private thoughts, thus creating evidence of his thoughtcrime — the crime of independent thought, contrary to the dictates and aims of the Party.
His life takes a fatal turn when he is accosted by a fellow Outer Party worker — a mysterious, bold-looking girl named Julia — and they begin an illicit affair. Their first meeting takes place in the remote countryside where they exchange subversive ideas before having sex. Shortly after, Winston rents a room above a pawn shop (in the supposedly safe proletarian area) where they continue their liaison. Julia — a sensual, free-spirited young woman — procures contraband food and clothing on the black market, and for a brief few months they secretly meet and enjoy an idyllic life of relative freedom and contentment together.
It comes to an end one evening, with the sudden raid of the Thought Police. They are both arrested and it's revealed that there is a telescreen hidden behind a picture on the wall in their room, and that the proprietor of the pawn shop, Mr. Charrington, is a covert agent of the Thought Police. Winston and Julia are taken away to be detained, questioned and brutally "rehabilitated", separately. Winston is brought to the Ministry of Love, where O'Brien, a high-ranking member of the Inner Party whom Winston had previously believed to be a fellow thoughtcriminal and agent of the resistance movement led by the archenemy of the Party, Emmanuel Goldstein, systematically tortured him.
O'Brien instructs Winston about the state's true purpose and schools him in a kind of catechism on the principles of doublethink — the practice of holding two contradictory thoughts in the mind simultaneously. For his final rehabilitation, Winston is brought to Room 101, where O'Brien tells him he will be subjected to the "worst thing in the world", designed specifically around Smith's personal phobias. When confronted with this unbearable horror — which turns out to be a cage filled with wild rats — Winston's psychological resistance finally and irretrievably breaks down, and he hysterically repudiates his allegiance to Julia. Now completely subjugated and purged of any rebellious thoughts, impulses, or personal attachments, Winston is restored to physical health and released.
In the final scene, Winston returns to the Chestnut Tree Café, where he had previously seen the rehabilitated thoughtcriminals Jones, Aaronson and Rutherford (themselves once prominent but later disgraced members of the Inner Party) who have since been "vaporized" and rendered unpersons. While sitting at the chess table, Winston is approached by Julia, who was similarly "rehabilitated". They share a bottle of Victory Gin and impassively exchange a few words about how they have betrayed each other. After she leaves, Winston watches a broadcast of himself on the large telescreen confessing his "crimes" against the state and imploring forgiveness of the populace.
Upon hearing a news report declaring the Oceanian army's utter rout of the enemy (Eurasian)'s forces in North Africa, Winston looks at the still image of Big Brother that appears on the telescreen, then turns away and almost silently says "I love you" - a phrase that he and Julia repeatedly used during their relationship, indicating the possibility that he still loves Julia. However, he could also be declaring his love for Big Brother instead. The novel unambiguously ends with the words: "He loved Big Brother," whereas the movie seems to deliberately allow for either interpretation. Earlier, during Winston's conversation with Julia in the rented room, he stated that "if they can make me change my feelings, they can stop me from loving you, that would be real betrayal". In the final scene, the "real betrayal" has therefore either been committed or averted, depending on whether the "you" that Winston loves is Big Brother or Julia.
We arrived by train in Munich in mid afternoon, dropped our stuff at a great pension and then went exploring. The first stop was at the KMPG building - home to a very fascinating sculpture called "Rewriting" or the Endless Staircase. The last time I saw it was on a very rainy day and the whole thing was surrounded by scaffolding. We had it to ourselves and were able to get some good photos. From there we hopped on the U-bahn and headed downtown. We checked out another opulent church - the Theatinerkirche. We then made our way slowly back to the room but ran into a commercial being filmed in front of the Neues Rathaus (City Hall). We're not sure what the commercial was about but it was fun to watch. The last stop was at the Asamkirche - a very, very ornate church. Unfortunately it was locked so we could only view it from the lobby. Munich is another of those cities I've been to several times but never get tired of it.

Lo sviluppo di una ricerca personale si trasforma in una mostra collettiva alla
ricerca di autori sospesi nel mondo graffiti writing/street art. Quest’anno, pur
limitando la circolazione del bando, abbiamo superato quota 80 invitati.
Piemontesi e lombardi, famosi e sconosciuti, giovanissimi e old schooler. Ai
50 torinesi si aggiungono artisti da Milano, Varese, Vercelli, Cuneo, Novara,
Alessandria, Arona, Roma, Termoli, Ascoli, Salerno. Un esempio della
creatività che dalla strada approda nello spazio espositivo, dove perfetti
sconosciuti (al mondo delle gallerie d’arte) incontrano autori con alle spalle
un personale percorso professionale e artistico.
Due le coordinate per partecipare: la misura, rigorosamente 30 x 30 cm.
telaio 4 cm. e lo stile che deve rappresentare icone, tags e puppets
abitualmente spalmati sul territorio. Un mix di stili e materiali, dove lo spray
lotta con la superficie ridotta lasciando ampio spazio a marker e pennelli,
mascherine, stickers, resine e carta con, a volte, una deriva verso la pittura
pura e meno street.
La mostra collettiva ridotta ACROSS REWRITING è proposta e promossa,
grazie al contributo Regione Piemonte, dal circolo culturale AMANTES a
Torino, uno spazio al confine tra galleria d'arte e locale di svago fondato nel
1996, dove è possibile dialogare con gli autori davanti a un bicchiere e in
modo informale.
ACROSS REWRITING è un percorso di avvicinamento a "REWRITING", la
quinta edizione di una rassegna sempre rivolta al fenomeno graffiti writing /
street art ma performativa. Si svolgerà a partire dal 10 aprile 2010 e darà
modo ai visitatori di ammirare gli artisti all'opera.

Un mix di stili e materiali, dove lo spray lotta con la superficie ridotta lasciando ampio spazio a marker e pennelli, mascherine, stickers, resine e carta con, a volte, una deriva verso la pittura pura e meno street.

In a dystopian 1984, Winston Smith endures a squalid existence in the totalitarian superstate of Oceania under the constant surveillance of the Thought Police. The story takes place in London, the capital city of the territory of Airstrip One (formerly "either England or Britain").
Winston works in a small office cubicle at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history in accordance with the dictates of the Party and its supreme figurehead, Big Brother. A man haunted by painful memories and restless desires, Winston is an everyman who keeps a secret diary of his private thoughts, thus creating evidence of his thoughtcrime — the crime of independent thought, contrary to the dictates and aims of the Party.
His life takes a fatal turn when he is accosted by a fellow Outer Party worker — a mysterious, bold-looking girl named Julia — and they begin an illicit affair. Their first meeting takes place in the remote countryside where they exchange subversive ideas before having sex. Shortly after, Winston rents a room above a pawn shop (in the supposedly safe proletarian area) where they continue their liaison. Julia — a sensual, free-spirited young woman — procures contraband food and clothing on the black market, and for a brief few months they secretly meet and enjoy an idyllic life of relative freedom and contentment together.
It comes to an end one evening, with the sudden raid of the Thought Police. They are both arrested and it's revealed that there is a telescreen hidden behind a picture on the wall in their room, and that the proprietor of the pawn shop, Mr. Charrington, is a covert agent of the Thought Police. Winston and Julia are taken away to be detained, questioned and brutally "rehabilitated", separately. Winston is brought to the Ministry of Love, where O'Brien, a high-ranking member of the Inner Party whom Winston had previously believed to be a fellow thoughtcriminal and agent of the resistance movement led by the archenemy of the Party, Emmanuel Goldstein, systematically tortured him.
O'Brien instructs Winston about the state's true purpose and schools him in a kind of catechism on the principles of doublethink — the practice of holding two contradictory thoughts in the mind simultaneously. For his final rehabilitation, Winston is brought to Room 101, where O'Brien tells him he will be subjected to the "worst thing in the world", designed specifically around Smith's personal phobias. When confronted with this unbearable horror — which turns out to be a cage filled with wild rats — Winston's psychological resistance finally and irretrievably breaks down, and he hysterically repudiates his allegiance to Julia. Now completely subjugated and purged of any rebellious thoughts, impulses, or personal attachments, Winston is restored to physical health and released.
In the final scene, Winston returns to the Chestnut Tree Café, where he had previously seen the rehabilitated thoughtcriminals Jones, Aaronson and Rutherford (themselves once prominent but later disgraced members of the Inner Party) who have since been "vaporized" and rendered unpersons. While sitting at the chess table, Winston is approached by Julia, who was similarly "rehabilitated". They share a bottle of Victory Gin and impassively exchange a few words about how they have betrayed each other. After she leaves, Winston watches a broadcast of himself on the large telescreen confessing his "crimes" against the state and imploring forgiveness of the populace.
Upon hearing a news report declaring the Oceanian army's utter rout of the enemy (Eurasian)'s forces in North Africa, Winston looks at the still image of Big Brother that appears on the telescreen, then turns away and almost silently says "I love you" - a phrase that he and Julia repeatedly used during their relationship, indicating the possibility that he still loves Julia. However, he could also be declaring his love for Big Brother instead. The novel unambiguously ends with the words: "He loved Big Brother," whereas the movie seems to deliberately allow for either interpretation. Earlier, during Winston's conversation with Julia in the rented room, he stated that "if they can make me change my feelings, they can stop me from loving you, that would be real betrayal". In the final scene, the "real betrayal" has therefore either been committed or averted, depending on whether the "you" that Winston loves is Big Brother or Julia.

Una mostra collettiva “ridotta”
dedicata al mondo graffiti writing / street art.
III EDIZIONE
Inaugurazione

In mostra fino al 5 gennaio 2010. Orario: lunedì/sabato, ore 18.00/01.00.
Lo sviluppo di una ricerca personale si trasforma in una mostra collettiva alla
ricerca di autori sospesi nel mondo graffiti writing/street art. Quest’anno, pur
limitando la circolazione del bando, abbiamo superato quota 80 invitati.
Piemontesi e lombardi, famosi e sconosciuti, giovanissimi e old schooler. Ai
50 torinesi si aggiungono artisti da Milano, Varese, Vercelli, Cuneo, Novara,
Alessandria, Arona, Roma, Termoli, Ascoli, Salerno. Un esempio della
creatività che dalla strada approda nello spazio espositivo, dove perfetti
sconosciuti (al mondo delle gallerie d’arte) incontrano autori con alle spalle
un personale percorso professionale e artistico.
Due le coordinate per partecipare: la misura, rigorosamente 30 x 30 cm.
telaio 4 cm. e lo stile che deve rappresentare icone, tags e puppets
abitualmente spalmati sul territorio. Un mix di stili e materiali, dove lo spray
lotta con la superficie ridotta lasciando ampio spazio a marker e pennelli,
mascherine, stickers, resine e carta con, a volte, una deriva verso la pittura
pura e meno street.
La mostra collettiva ridotta ACROSS REWRITING è proposta e promossa,
grazie al contributo Regione Piemonte, dal circolo culturale AMANTES a
Torino, uno spazio al confine tra galleria d'arte e locale di svago fondato nel
1996, dove è possibile dialogare con gli autori davanti a un bicchiere e in
modo informale.
ACROSS REWRITING è un percorso di avvicinamento a "REWRITING", la
quinta edizione di una rassegna sempre rivolta al fenomeno graffiti writing /
street art ma performativa. Si svolgerà a partire dal 10 aprile 2010 e darà
modo ai visitatori di ammirare gli artisti all'opera.

In a dystopian 1984, Winston Smith endures a squalid existence in the totalitarian superstate of Oceania under the constant surveillance of the Thought Police. The story takes place in London, the capital city of the territory of Airstrip One (formerly "either England or Britain").
Winston works in a small office cubicle at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history in accordance with the dictates of the Party and its supreme figurehead, Big Brother. A man haunted by painful memories and restless desires, Winston is an everyman who keeps a secret diary of his private thoughts, thus creating evidence of his thoughtcrime — the crime of independent thought, contrary to the dictates and aims of the Party.
His life takes a fatal turn when he is accosted by a fellow Outer Party worker — a mysterious, bold-looking girl named Julia — and they begin an illicit affair. Their first meeting takes place in the remote countryside where they exchange subversive ideas before having sex. Shortly after, Winston rents a room above a pawn shop (in the supposedly safe proletarian area) where they continue their liaison. Julia — a sensual, free-spirited young woman — procures contraband food and clothing on the black market, and for a brief few months they secretly meet and enjoy an idyllic life of relative freedom and contentment together.
It comes to an end one evening, with the sudden raid of the Thought Police. They are both arrested and it's revealed that there is a telescreen hidden behind a picture on the wall in their room, and that the proprietor of the pawn shop, Mr. Charrington, is a covert agent of the Thought Police. Winston and Julia are taken away to be detained, questioned and brutally "rehabilitated", separately. Winston is brought to the Ministry of Love, where O'Brien, a high-ranking member of the Inner Party whom Winston had previously believed to be a fellow thoughtcriminal and agent of the resistance movement led by the archenemy of the Party, Emmanuel Goldstein, systematically tortured him.
O'Brien instructs Winston about the state's true purpose and schools him in a kind of catechism on the principles of doublethink — the practice of holding two contradictory thoughts in the mind simultaneously. For his final rehabilitation, Winston is brought to Room 101, where O'Brien tells him he will be subjected to the "worst thing in the world", designed specifically around Smith's personal phobias. When confronted with this unbearable horror — which turns out to be a cage filled with wild rats — Winston's psychological resistance finally and irretrievably breaks down, and he hysterically repudiates his allegiance to Julia. Now completely subjugated and purged of any rebellious thoughts, impulses, or personal attachments, Winston is restored to physical health and released.
In the final scene, Winston returns to the Chestnut Tree Café, where he had previously seen the rehabilitated thoughtcriminals Jones, Aaronson and Rutherford (themselves once prominent but later disgraced members of the Inner Party) who have since been "vaporized" and rendered unpersons. While sitting at the chess table, Winston is approached by Julia, who was similarly "rehabilitated". They share a bottle of Victory Gin and impassively exchange a few words about how they have betrayed each other. After she leaves, Winston watches a broadcast of himself on the large telescreen confessing his "crimes" against the state and imploring forgiveness of the populace.
Upon hearing a news report declaring the Oceanian army's utter rout of the enemy (Eurasian)'s forces in North Africa, Winston looks at the still image of Big Brother that appears on the telescreen, then turns away and almost silently says "I love you" - a phrase that he and Julia repeatedly used during their relationship, indicating the possibility that he still loves Julia. However, he could also be declaring his love for Big Brother instead. The novel unambiguously ends with the words: "He loved Big Brother," whereas the movie seems to deliberately allow for either interpretation. Earlier, during Winston's conversation with Julia in the rented room, he stated that "if they can make me change my feelings, they can stop me from loving you, that would be real betrayal". In the final scene, the "real betrayal" has therefore either been committed or averted, depending on whether the "you" that Winston loves is Big Brother or Julia.

Una mostra collettiva “ridotta”
dedicata al mondo graffiti writing / street art.

In mostra fino al 5 gennaio 2010. Orario: lunedì/sabato, ore 18.00/01.00.
Lo sviluppo di una ricerca personale si trasforma in una mostra collettiva alla
ricerca di autori sospesi nel mondo graffiti writing/street art. Quest’anno, pur
limitando la circolazione del bando, abbiamo superato quota 80 invitati.
Piemontesi e lombardi, famosi e sconosciuti, giovanissimi e old schooler. Ai
50 torinesi si aggiungono artisti da Milano, Varese, Vercelli, Cuneo, Novara,
Alessandria, Arona, Roma, Termoli, Ascoli, Salerno. Un esempio della
creatività che dalla strada approda nello spazio espositivo, dove perfetti
sconosciuti (al mondo delle gallerie d’arte) incontrano autori con alle spalle
un personale percorso professionale e artistico.
Due le coordinate per partecipare: la misura, rigorosamente 30 x 30 cm.
telaio 4 cm. e lo stile che deve rappresentare icone, tags e puppets
abitualmente spalmati sul territorio. Un mix di stili e materiali, dove lo spray
lotta con la superficie ridotta lasciando ampio spazio a marker e pennelli,
mascherine, stickers, resine e carta con, a volte, una deriva verso la pittura
pura e meno street.
La mostra collettiva ridotta ACROSS REWRITING è proposta e promossa,
grazie al contributo Regione Piemonte, dal circolo culturale AMANTES a
Torino, uno spazio al confine tra galleria d'arte e locale di svago fondato nel
1996, dove è possibile dialogare con gli autori davanti a un bicchiere e in
modo informale.
ACROSS REWRITING è un percorso di avvicinamento a "REWRITING", la
quinta edizione di una rassegna sempre rivolta al fenomeno graffiti writing /
street art ma performativa. Si svolgerà a partire dal 10 aprile 2010 e darà
modo ai visitatori di ammirare gli artisti all'opera.

I chose to rewrite a famous and somewhat commonly used quote. I used illustrator, for the most part, to create this instead of photoshop like I had for the typography project. Letterers and artists embrace imperfection because it gives uniqueness to ones art. I embraced imperfection by not trying to make perfectly straight lines, and by not trying to stay perfectly aligned. My two qualities were rhythm and emphasis. I used rhythm in that each letter is similar to the rest and emphasis on the word luck. I make my own luck-Shay Cormac

Lo sviluppo di una ricerca personale si trasforma in una mostra collettiva alla
ricerca di autori sospesi nel mondo graffiti writing/street art. Quest’anno, pur
limitando la circolazione del bando, abbiamo superato quota 80 invitati.
Piemontesi e lombardi, famosi e sconosciuti, giovanissimi e old schooler. Ai
50 torinesi si aggiungono artisti da Milano, Varese, Vercelli, Cuneo, Novara,
Alessandria, Arona, Roma, Termoli, Ascoli, Salerno. Un esempio della
creatività che dalla strada approda nello spazio espositivo, dove perfetti
sconosciuti (al mondo delle gallerie d’arte) incontrano autori con alle spalle
un personale percorso professionale e artistico.
Due le coordinate per partecipare: la misura, rigorosamente 30 x 30 cm.
telaio 4 cm. e lo stile che deve rappresentare icone, tags e puppets
abitualmente spalmati sul territorio. Un mix di stili e materiali, dove lo spray
lotta con la superficie ridotta lasciando ampio spazio a marker e pennelli,
mascherine, stickers, resine e carta con, a volte, una deriva verso la pittura
pura e meno street.
La mostra collettiva ridotta ACROSS REWRITING è proposta e promossa,
grazie al contributo Regione Piemonte, dal circolo culturale AMANTES a
Torino, uno spazio al confine tra galleria d'arte e locale di svago fondato nel
1996, dove è possibile dialogare con gli autori davanti a un bicchiere e in
modo informale.
ACROSS REWRITING è un percorso di avvicinamento a "REWRITING", la
quinta edizione di una rassegna sempre rivolta al fenomeno graffiti writing /
street art ma performativa. Si svolgerà a partire dal 10 aprile 2010 e darà
modo ai visitatori di ammirare gli artisti all'opera.

ospita e promuove eventi nel campo della videoarte e dei nuovi media, segue la scena
cinematografica indipendente (e militante), supporta e produce artisti emergenti in campo
fotografico, è laboratorio per le crew dj / vjing torinesi e per il mondo graffiti writing / street
art. La sede si trova a Torino in via Principe Amedeo 38/a, a due passi dal Museo del
Cinema; ingresso libero in galleria, accesso al circolo con tessera ARCI. In rete su

I am rewriting our Naturalist Journeys itinerary for Alaska 2016 and needed a photo of Musk Ox for time in Nome. These two cows and their calves seemed appropriate. The new itinerary will include Nome as part of the main tour. It had previously been a stand-alone extension. Check out www.naturalistjourneys.com in a couple of weeks...
This is amazing. I straightened this photo using LR 5 and it apparently erased my previous description. So, I will rewrite it.
Around noon today I was sitting, sipping a soda, at a small snack-bar in a department store. Fern approached me and asked if a stool sitting nearby was being used. I told him it was not. So, he sat there and ate his lunch. During all this time, he was occupied with reading from his cell phone.
I glanced at him several times and wished I could make his photo.
I even considered secretively taking his pic with my small pocket camera. At the same time, I decided that would be totally RUDE.
But, as he finished his lunch and started to leave, I asked if I could ask questions about his hair. He smiled and graciously agreed.
My first question was how long he had this style? He replied, "A LONG time." Then, how often does he have to style it? Actually, I think I used a Texas term and asked him about "fixing" it. He said about once a week.
Knowing how my hair (what I have left) looks when I awaken mornings, I ask him about sleeping and what kind of issues that he would have. He smiled, reached up and bent his forward spike all the way to his face. When he released it, it just sprang back like a spring. I was totally amazed. He said he used hair glue to form the spikes.
Lastly, I asked who fixes it for him and he said he does it all himself. Now, that is talent!
Fern was very friendly and courteous. Perhaps he is just accustomed to people asking him about his hair. I think he is not just tolerant, but is just a nice guy that everybody would like to be around.
I think my first narration was better, but you will never know. LOL
