Super Minion got let out of his box and is wishing you all a happy season.

Regarding which......the tree saga, for any interested.
I got my tree and a friend came over to help me stand it up. I let it sit overnight so the branches would fall. And they did.....hugely.
My tree has the wing span of a jet plane!!
So, yesterday afternoon, I start with the lights.
Anyone who has strung lights on a tree knows that you first plug them in to make sure they all work, even tho they did when you packed them up last year.
I plug them in as I string them so I can see where they're going.
First strand.....no problem.
Test the second strand and yaay....they all work. Plug them into the first and start weaving them in and around all the branches. Almost done when blip....they go out. The beginning ones are still lit so I find the first one that isn't and check all the bulbs from there. All secure.....but unlit. I begin unraveling it, and am almost done when bling.....they all go back on.
Soooo......I reweave them again.
Third strand plug in....yaay, they all work.
Plug them into the second and start going round the tree when blip......half of them go out.
grrrrr
My tra-la tra-la that I started with is turning into !#!!*#**!!. Frustration level very high. So I unwrap them from the tree.
Go get the next strand, which is practically new and only used a couple of times.
Plug them in to test and not one.....NOT ONE LOUSY DEVIL BULB lights!!! Check them and all (100) are securely in place and unlit.
At this point I'm definitely in full blown blankety blank mode and did for a fleeting moment consider strangling myself with them.
Dug around in some boxes and found some really old strands that still worked...they went on ok.
And by late evening I had a lit tree.
I opened a bottle of wine I bought for the holidays and poured myself not one, but two glasses and got a little lit myself.
Today, things are better and my son comes tomorrow. :-)

"Happy Window Wednesday" everyone!
In a realm cloaked in the folds of whimsy, nestled the land of Plushshire, where the sentient stufflings—Stufflepuffs and Tedwardians—dwelt in a fabric-bound fraternity. This was until the day the Revolt of the Cuddly Toys unfurled, stitching dissent between the Hoppington Hares of Fluffborough and the Bearington Bears of Pawston.
Our plush protagonist, Sir Cuddleton Patchworthy, was a Bearwardian of great renown. His valor was famed throughout the Tusslemeadows of Thimbleton, and in the fray, he became threadbare, a hero frayed but not defeated.
Sir Cuddleton, knight of the revered Wovenkeep, possessed knowledge of the arcane Twirlwinds—a spellthread capable of reweaving the most tattered of toy souls. In his recovery, tended by the crafty paws of Madam Purlina Webwhisker, the sage of Seams, Patchworthy contemplated the raveled threads of war.
The Neverolds, eternal children of Plushshire, observed the fray through teary glass eyes. In their wisdom, they conceived a plot most playful: the Larkspur Labyrinth, a playground so beguiling that no stuffed soldier could resist its siren song of serenity. Here, in this haven of hilarity, the disheartened warriors laid down their cotton cudgels and embraced their erstwhile enemies.
Sir Cuddleton Patchworthy, now adorned with the emblem of empathy began his most important quest. He traversed Plushshire, from the cushiony hills of Napvale to the silken sands of Drowsy Dunes, spinning tales of solace and stitching unity into the fabric of every toy's being.
And so, the yarn of the Revolt of the Cuddly Toys unwound to an uneasy stillness. Plushshire was suspended in a delicate balance, as if the very air held its breath. Sir Cuddleton Patchworthy, erstwhile warrior, now dubbed 'The Tranquil,' became a legend in hush tones and half-whispers.
For in the shadows of playtime's joy and the soft echoes of laughter, there lingered a thread of unease. The Neverolds knew, as all who've watched the cycle of tales unfold, that darkness can restitch itself anew. And as the moonlight danced upon the Larkspur Labyrinth, they wondered quietly: would the stitches of peace hold, or would they unravel in the silent whispers of the night?
My most beautiful hiding places,
places that best fit my soul’s deepest colors,
are made of all that others forgot.
They are solitary sites hollowed out in the grass’s caress,
in a shadow of wings, in a passing song;
regions whose limits swirl with the ghostly carriages

where the light, aflame, used to hum in the siesta’s honey,
who else will open again the big chest where the remains of an unhappy story lie,
sacrificed a thousand times only to fantasy, only to foam,
and try on the rags again
like those costumes of invincible heroes,
circle of fire that inflamed time’s scorpion?
Who cleans the windowpane with her breath and stirs the fire of the afternoon
in those rooms where the table was an altar of idolatry,
each chair, a landscape folded up after every trip,
and the bed, a stormy short cut to the other shore of dreams,
rooms deep as nets hung from the sky,
like endless embraces I slid down till I brushed the feathers of death,
until I overturned the laws of knowledge and the fall of man?
Who goes into the parks with the golden breath of each Christmas
and washes the foliage with a little gray rag that was the handkerchief for waving goodbye,
and reweaves the garlands with a thread of tears,
repeating a fantastic ritual among smashed wine glasses and guests lost in thought,
while she savors the twelve green grapes of redemption—
one for each month, one for each year, one for each century of empty indulgence—
a taste acid but not as sharp as the bread of forgetfulness?
Because who but I changes the water for all the memories?
Who inserts the present like a slash into the dreams of the past?
Who switches my ancient lamps for new ones?

The Queen of Munsters has returned, rising from shadows where she bided her time, watching as an unworthy pretender tainted her throne. Her absence was no simple departure—it was a calculated retreat, a gathering of power, a silent promise to those foolish enough to think they could usurp her place. A no-name man dared to sit where her shadow alone could freeze blood and bone, attempting to govern in ignorance of the darker forces that flow through the kingdom’s core. Under his feeble reign, the once-vibrant Munster land became fractured, steeped in a chaos he was powerless to control, a poisoned web tightening around him with each passing day.
Her return is a reckoning, a whisper from the night as it comes to reclaim what is rightfully hers. With her back in power, her wrath is palpable—a quiet, lingering terror that settles over the land like fog, chilling her followers and enthralling her loyal subjects with promises of vengeance against those who dared disrespect her crown. The kingdom pulses anew, alive with a darker energy, as the Queen reweaves the world in her image, each thread binding her subjects in unwavering loyalty. The Munsters' realm will never again tolerate pretenders; their Queen has returned, and her rule shall be an era drenched in shadow and fervor that none will ever dare challenge again.
Dense fog blanketed the land above, the sun shaded from the land by clouds. The cobblestone streets sat damp as the lampposts around the city flickered with magical light. Far beneath those streets another city existed. Carved within the stone of the island and embedded in it's very being sat The Ebon Halls, and at it's core The Font of Souls. That place a beating heart for those who sought to reweave the bindings of fate. To give themselves wholly to the arcane and eldritch magicks that they studied and swore their life and death to. Even the faintest waver in resolve, the slight flicker of doubt would be enough to damn one to eternity in the font should they fail. But for the chance to become a god? A master of life, death and the in between? Some risks are worth the rewards...

The Font of Souls is a curiously themed skybox that comes with two windlights, an extra vase furnishing for decoration, glowing particle torches and a swirling vortex of magic in the center. These are linked and can be unlinked and customized. The skybox alone sits at 60 Land Impact and is best used with advanced lighting enabled. It is also copy and modify so you can adjust things as you like. A demo is available at the event so you can see the skybox itself. The custom windlights are not on display unfortunately but are included with it.

Malcolm Margolin greeted me with wild eyes and a grin that didn’t care for solemnity. I photographed him at his home in December 2021, where he sat surrounded by a lifetime of books, stories, and a certain irreverent joy. Despite the slow encroach of Parkinson’s, Malcolm was electric: playful, thoughtful, utterly alive.
He’s spent decades preserving the voices of others, especially those too often erased, through his writing and publishing. As the founder of Heyday Books, Malcolm gave California back to itself, one story at a time. Native histories, natural landscapes, the rhythms of seasons and culture—he made them vivid and accessible. In doing so, he helped generations remember how to listen.
Malcolm Margolin’s books feel less like authored works and more like invitations. They invite you to sit around a fire, to walk an old trail, to remember what was nearly forgotten. His most enduring book, The Ohlone Way: Indian Life in the San Francisco–Monterey Bay Area, published in 1978, reintroduced the world to the Indigenous peoples of California with a kind of reverent clarity. It wasn’t anthropology for its own sake. It was a reweaving of memory, a reminder that the land we walk on holds stories far older than our cities. The San Francisco Chronicle once called it one of the hundred most important books of the 20th century written about California. They were right.
There’s something profoundly countercultural about the way Malcolm shows up in the world. He doesn’t chase relevance or power. He listens. He tells jokes. He makes a face. That afternoon together, what struck me wasn’t just his intellect, which is capacious, or his memory, which still flares with detail. It was his delight. Despite the tremor in his hands, he leaned into the moment. Curious. Open. Fiercely human.
This portrait captures him in that spirit: not in decline, but defiant in joy. A man unafraid to look silly. A man who knows that sometimes the best way to carry truth is through laughter.
There are people who spend their lives trying to leave a mark. Malcolm has already carved a whole topography of language, land, and love. And somehow, he’s still out there, adding lines.
We started work reweaving and pruning the willow cathedral. The weather forecast said "cloudy", but it turned out to be a very sunny day.

Rob Reid's new book After On was published tonight! We were there to celebrate in the Haight.
Despite its heft, my son read the book in one day, as we read the proofs for typos. It took me 3 months.
I was delighted to read that Draper Fisher Jurvetson seed-funded the emergent AI heroine Phluttr. Before I finished the book, I had a dinner with Rob, Morgan, Genevieve, Laetitia and Richard Garriott de Cayeux and the talk of emergent AI prompted me to toss off my most popular tweet ever in the middle of the dinner: "A sufficiently advanced AI would chose to fail the Turing Test."
It turns out to be relevant to the book, but I leave that to the reader.
The back cover has a short alliterative quote from me, twisting William Gibson's portent on power laws in the information-economy: “The future is already here—it’s just for those who read Reid.”

The central scribe peruses the list of Honor's celebrants, whilst in the foreground an unruly mob of historical and literary protagonists beseige Honor's pavilion.
This tapestry was part of a seven-piece set presenting an allegorical guide to the qualities which a successful ruler should espouse. The set was made for Cardinal Erard de la Marck (1472–1538), Prince-Bishop of Liège, and loyal envoy and financial backer of Holy Roman Emperor Charles V.

A convergence of soul-echo and corrupted quantum code, he is the last avatar of the Deathloom Protocol, an ancient failsafe designed to outlive the digital gods who made it.
His skull-faced visage is no mask — it is a ritual interface, lined with etching sigils and glowing conduits of violet necrodata. The cloak that drapes him is woven from monofilament shrouds, encoded with mourning subroutines, frayed at the edges by dimensional drift. His presence disrupts time; streetlights flicker, memories distort, and backups fail in his wake.
With every step, Vel’Zanir reweaves the circuit of death — not to destroy, but to overwrite reality itself in perfect silence. No voice. No mercy.
The enthroned and bearded personification of Honor receives the victor's laurel crown from Virtue and Victory. Majesty and Respect sit like handmaidens at Honor's feet, and the most lauded rulers of history, each identified by name, flank his throne; below are ten virtuous women, plucked from mythology, the Bible and more recent apocryphal histories. The central scribe peruses the list of Honor's celebrants, whilst in the foreground an unruly mob of historical and literary protagonists beseige Honor's pavilion.

Located near the ancient capital of Japan (now Nara), Mount Yoshino is celebrated for its "thousand cherry trees". However, the splendour of this spectacle conceals a forgotten story, which the study of ancient texts makes it possible to reweave.
In the Man'yôshû, considered to be the first anthology of Japanese poems, Yoshino is represented as a "beautiful plain", "admired by the powerful for its beauty", in other words, a strategic place... which the sovereign and his relatives "contemplate without ever growing weary". These attributes provide information on the value attributed to Yoshino, which can therefore be understood as a symbol of imperial succession. Power and its transmission were in fact constantly threatened by the vagaries of time, just like the blossoming of cherry trees.
On this day in history in 1306 - Robert the Bruce was crowned King of Scotland.
Robert the Bruce, or Robert I of Scotland was born on the 11 July 1274 at Turnberry Castle in Ayrshire, Scotland. He was the son of Robert Bruce, 6th Lord of Annandale, and Marjorie, Countess of Carrick. The Bruce family was one of the most powerful in Scotland.
Robert I of Scotland was inaugurated at Scone on 25 March 1306. The Stone of Destiny and the royal regalia had all been taken south by Edward I in 1296, so it was a simple ceremony.
After civil war supported by the English King Edward I Robert the Bruce spent the winter of 1306/7 in hiding, including a period living in a cave on the island of Rathlin off the coast of northern Ireland with his brother Edward Bruce. This is one of a number of places said by local folklore to have been the location for Robert's encounter with a spider, in which he observed repeatedly weaving and reweaving its web, never giving up until finally it succeeded. Robert is meant to have drawn from the encounter the resolve to try again to gain control of his kingdom. This story actually dates back to Sir Walter Scott's telling of it, in the original version it was a supporter of Robert who saw the spider then told him about it.
In June 1324 Edward II of England hastened north with an army of some 20,000, probably the largest English army to invade Scotland. Late in the afternoon of Sunday 23 June the vanguard of the English army arrived at the ford over the Bannock Burn, a couple of miles south of Stirling. On the far side a Scottish army of some 7,000 awaited them. The main battle took place on 24 June 1314 and the English army broke and attempted to flee. After the Battle of Bannock Robert I was at last the unchallenged King of Scotland and although the Wars of Independence from England were not over, a corner had finally been turned.
In 1324, 18 years after he had been crowned, the Pope formally accepted Robert as King of Scotland. In 1328 Edward III renounced all claims to English superiority over Scotland, and promised the return of the Stone of Destiny removed in 1296 although the English failed to return it until the 30th November 1996, 700 years late.
Robert the Bruce died on 7 June 1329 at Dumbarton knowing he had achieved everything he had set out to achieve. As he had never been on crusade while his body was buried in Dunfermline Abbey, his heart was placed in a silver casket and carried by Sir James Douglas when he fought against the Moors in Spain. Sir James was killed, but Robert's heart was returned to be buried in Melrose Abbey. Scotland was once more an independent sovereign state.

'For the first time in over 40 years, visitors at Saltram can enjoy the Saloon as intended after the spectacular carpet was recreated by Axminster Carpets, whose founder wove the original in 1770
The skill that's gone into the re-weave project is remarkable with @AxminsterUK rebuilding its largest loom to accommodate the vast carpet, and @linney_cooper expertly hand finishing and installing the final carpet in the Saloon
The reweave is the final stage of a major Saloon conservation project which began in 2017 and was funded by the National Trust and Wolfson Foundation @wolfsonfdn.' - @NTSouthWest - [NTSouthWest]
