One from a couple of weeks back.
What was supposed to be a 90 minute journey to Spurn ending up taking nearly 3 hours due to 2 crashes on the way. This, followed by hiking with my mountain bike across sand for 20 mins, and finally a 10 mins bike ride to the lighthouse, meant it was a bit of a mission to get there.
At least i was rewarded with some lovely evening light.
Living in the shadow of the mountain in the Northwest has its risks, but some mornings show off the rewards.
View of downtown tacoma from my office roof, with Mount Rainier in the background, casting a shadow across the sky. On the lower right is the Tacoma Dome.
Entertainment in the streets of York. The entertainer is chained up and has to release himself Houdini style in a set time. The audience participates and helps to chain him up. (1840)
I love how the late summer sun is low enough to light the trees from the back and directly on the front. Gives so much depth to a scene.
“To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter… to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird’s nest or a wildflower in spring — these are some of the rewards of the simple life.”
― John Burroughs

Mono Hike Rewards. Another frosty morning, numb finger on the shutter button, shots between shaking.
I'm a pretty proud gardener with regard to this cactus -- this is the payoff for eleven months of love and plant food. When my cat decided to pose there I had to grab the phone for a snap.
This is the main house in the Palheiro estate - now public gardens - in the hills over Funchal. The estate belonged to the Blandy family whose fortune was made as Madeira wine merchants.

When I finally got through the old gardens and remnants of buildings up more steps this was my reward, the aching feet seemed worth it( I think)?

Candid street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. This elderly gentleman struggling to light a cigarette in the wind that rattles through the city. The pose and lighting was simply perfect for a candid shot that I simply had to capture. Enjoy full screen by pressing 'L'.

After a gray and wet morning, I decided to stick around once the clouds started to break. I thought, this is rainbow weather. I even used the PlanIt Pro app to help determine where a rainbow may form and got into position on one of my favorite compositions.
I just had a cancelation on my once sold out Oregon Coast workshop Oct 22-26. Details on my site.
“When the peasants and their song had vanished from his sight and hearing, a heavy feeling of anguish at his loneliness, his bodily idleness, his hostility to this world, came over him...It was all drowned in the sea of cheerful common labor. God had given the day, God had given the strength. Both day and strength had been devoted to labour and in that lay the reward...Levin had often admired this life, had often experienced a feeling of envy for the people who lived this life, but that day for the first time...the thought came clearly to Levin that it was up to him to change that so burdensome, idle, artificial and individual life he lived into this laborious, pure and common, lovely life.”

Staithes, Yorkshire - UK
The sleepy village of Staithes, North Yorkshire - we waited, unsure of what the clouds would do, the drive in was uncertain as they appeared flat and featureless.
We were rewarded with a quick and spectacular show of colour - what a morning to be alive!
I took this shot of a Little Owl at very low level in a field of Buttercups. The Owl has been in this area for quite a while now so has become used to the ODD human interaction.
It often perched on the branch in its search for food around the field.
