Kraków is a city shaped by continuity, ritual, and accumulated meaning. As Poland’s former royal capital, it carries centuries of political, religious, and cultural gravity with unusual clarity, having largely escaped the wartime destruction that erased so many other European cities. The result is a place where history is not reconstructed, but simply present.
Its urban form is dense and hierarchical. The medieval core is organised around the Rynek Główny, one of Europe’s largest market squares, from which streets radiate with remarkable legibility. Gothic churches, Renaissance courtyards, and Baroque interiors sit in close succession, creating an architecture of layering rather than contrast — heavy masonry, deep thresholds, and interiors that reveal themselves slowly.
The Wawel Hill anchors the city both physically and symbolically. Rising above the Vistula, it establishes a clear axis of power and memory, linking castle, cathedral, and river into a single civic narrative. Unlike a singular monument, Wawel operates as an ensemble — a palimpsest of dynasties, styles, and beliefs condensed into stone.
Contemporary Kraków lives in negotiation with this inheritance. Tourism and daily life overlap constantly, yet the city resists spectacle. It is a place that rewards duration rather than immediacy — where walking becomes a study of sequence, and time feels compressed not by speed, but by depth.

Yes, we bribe our children, lol. Our sticker system actually works pretty well. Of course my oldest one has out grown this, but my youngest loves to see the stickers pile up in his column. He even looks for things to do around the house just to earn stickers. He knows once he hits that magic number he might get to take a trip to the store for a toy or video game, or he might earn a snack or an extension on his bed time. I know the sticker years are coming to an end fast only to be replaced with cash.

A lump of Christmas cake at the summit of the Rail Trail.
The Rimutaka Rail Trail is a cycle way on the route of the former Wellington-Wairarapa railway line, built in the 1870s over the 3000ft barrier of the Rimutaka mountains. The line has been superceded by a newer route which passes through a long tunnel further north of this route. The old line was impractical as the incline on the eastern side averaged around 1 in 15, requiring the use of fell engines with a special ratchet wheel and track to haul itself up to the summit. The journey was so slow that passengers could dismount and walk up beside the train.
The Wellington side is more gentle making it a pleasant workout on a bike, ideal with a slight northerly breeze to assist you up the hill but not enough to outweigh the benefits of gravity on the way down :^)

Today’s consumer is no stranger to the infinite web of e-commerce. Free shipping, coupon codes, and online customer reviews are the norm, not the exception. The vast world of online shopping certainly holds its advantages for businesses, but e-commerce also has the potential to be a giant roadblock for customer retention and loyalty.
