The pyrrhuloxia or desert cardinal is a medium-sized North American song bird found in the American southwest and northern Mexico. This distinctive species with a short, stout bill and red crest and wings, and closely resembles the Northern cardinal and the Vermilion cardinal which are in the same genus.

Last fall hatchling.

Not, I imagine, the most artistically executed image, but it does exhibit the remarkable amaryllis we got in the mail from an outfit called White Flower Farms (my only relationship with them is satisfied customer); they call it Tres Chic. I've already posted a nice shot of one of the first blossoms from this bulb. I'm just amazed at how one bulb gave rise to all this gorgeous mayhem. Actually, there were two other stalks with similar mayhem from the same bulb, but my wife has trimmed them out; these, then, are just the late comers.

🌟 I've spent the past week immersed in the extraordinary world of The Continental. Luxurious levels, themed rooms, and hidden gems await.

I recommend it highly. Kudos to Thecla for this astonishing creation.

Third time to find this one. Good to know he survived the cold spell last week when temps dropped to the low 20s.

Going through older photos and thought I would post this from 7/19. It is hard to find dark sky areas but Mono Lake on the East side of the Sierras (CA) works pretty well. I took this in one shot (some adjustments in Photoshop) but hope to go back for a layered exposure opportunity.

Apologies for the hiatus - currently working flat out to get my parents the elder-care they deserve.

Frog Lake is at an elevation of ~8,800 ft. (2,680m). Here it is shown with Elephants Back (the name of the mountain), 9,580 ft. elevation, in distance and yellow buckwheat in foreground,
