Sometimes, when you shoot a location, you get some interesting images from the place. They are very similar, but they are not the same. They both have similar light, the same subject, common elements...but they are different.
In some cases, you can't decide which one you like most, in fact some days you prefer one and the next day your choice is the other.
In Iceland that happens very often, you love the location, you shoot some photos, and then you can't decide....every place is so gorgeous!!
This is the case with a previous shot of Stokknes I already uploaded some time ago, which you can check here (and in the first comment of this post).
Stokknes, Iceland. 2010
--------------------------------------------------------
Stokknes, Islandia. 2010

Fjallsárlón is a glacier lake at the south end of the Icelandic glacier Vatnajökull. Fjallsjökull which is part of the bigger glacier reaches down to the water of the lake and some ice-bergs are drifting by on its surface.
It is situated not far from Skaftafell National Park and the better known glacier lake Jökulsárlón. From the glacier lake Breiðárlón a little river flows into the Fjallsárlón.
Above, there is looming the famous volcano Öræfajökull.
When it is cloudy and the water is calmed, the image of the icebergs are mirrored on the lake's surface. The possibilities for photography thanks to symmetries are infinite with this conditions.
The view is much better in big

Once leaving behind the village of Seyðisfjörður (Seydisfiordur) and starting to climb the road that crosses the pass, you find right in front of you Gufufoss waterfall, just a mile away from the place of the previous shot. Maybe t is not one of the most famous waterfalls in Iceland, but it is one of the most beautiful and powerful.
The landscape in Fjarðarheiði changes in every bend of the road. The rivers, glaciar lakes, snowed mountains , ice caps, melting springs appear in front of the traveller’s eyes.
It was early morning, the sun light came from the East, in the Eastfjords. I shot a long exposure to capture the essence of the waterfall.
Like I said, this valley is so awesome.
Near Seyðisfjörður , Iceland 2010.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

My love for photography returned during lockdown after 16 years of suffering from domestic violence, depression, ptsd. I really appreciate all the support of my work and my confidence is slowly returning to the point I am now having a web site built. Shows there is light at the end of the tunnel after all. I decided I would like to promote awareness of domestic violence, mental health and also autism as I’m bringing up an autistic teenager on my own. There is just not enough awareness, so if I can highlight to get it out there, that would be absolutely incredible. Any support would be massively appreciated. 😍😍😍

Grundarfjörður is a small town, situated in the north of the Snæfellsnes peninsula in the west of Iceland. The town is situated in front of an impressive mountain range which has a slightly alpine look. On the sea side, there is a beautiful mountain called Kirkjufell which is a diverted piece of the mountain strip Mýrarhyrna. The mountain forms a small peninsula.
The town itself is a charming, quiet, nice fishing village. Another awesome hidden corner in Iceland.
This one was shot at 1.30 a.m., with the sun pointing at North, lighting all the town and the mountains nearby. It was quite cloudy, so, again, a long exposition would spread that fantastic light through the image.

Anthology of Resistance - The Isolation of Hate Sources
by Daniel Arrhakis (2024 / 2025)
The new Shadows of our times move quickly among multiple profiles of worshipers, continually making over time the sublimated and insidious apology of lies, hate and conspiracy theories. You need to isolate them completely, freezing them in their own space... blocking them!
Hate speech, far-right ideas and fascist theories are enhanced by the sharing and dimension of networks of followers, both in space and time.
The X (formerly Twitter) algorithm determines which tweets you see and how they are organized across your entire time on the app. This means your feed is dynamically personalized based on what you tend to like, retweet, or interact with on the platform.
So for hate speech to be contained we must avoid interacting with it and preferably block its source or sources.
The Great Ocean Road, probably the best photographic drive in the World.

Hvítserkur is the last remains of a central volcano, it is an injection of magma directly to the sea about 15m high. Legend states that this is a troll turned into stone when he was surprised by the sun while attacking a nearby abbey with rocks.
The sea erosion has carved holes through its foundations and sculptured it in the unique shape it is today. Some say it is in the shape of a petrified monster.
It was the sunrise time at 3 a.m., after shooting the horses under the Midnight Sun, I decided to take a photograph of Hvítserkur just when the sun was behind the rock, so I could watch some light crossing it through its holes...a long exposure would give a nice mood to the image.
Hvítserkur, Vatnsnes, Iceland. 2010.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Vestrahorn, West-Horn, is a mountain on the promontory between Skarðsfjörður and Papafjörður, visible from Stokknes. The steep slopes are made of gabbro-rock, which is a kind of granite, so is probably, one of the few mountains in Iceland that is not made of volcanic material.
Anyway is one of the oldest mountains in the SouthEast region of Iceland and reaches a height of 454 meters (1500 feet).
It was a windy afternoon, the clouds were passing by very fast, the artic terns were flying around. The colours were amazing.

From a trip out on Liverpool bay, wow these birds are fast. Light was tricky so getting this shot just before the point of impact is one difficult one to nail especially when they dive all of a sudden at 62mph from about 30 meters in height
About the photo:
This photo was a fun (and tough) one to process. I realized that I took two different shots that would work well stitched together as a panoramic. The only problem was, I did not take them with that in mind originally and they were different focal lengths. Thanks to some work in Photoshop using layer masks, scaling and transforming the layer, I was able to get the wide shot I was looking for.

In celebration of this new holiday, if you post a photo today and tweet it to @disphotoblog or @iso5571, we will retweet it and also post some of them on the Disney Photography Blog later in the day.

Krafla is a caldera of about 10 km in diameter with a 90 km long fissure zone, in the north of Iceland in the Mývatn region. Its highest peak reaches up to 818 m and it is 2 km in depth. There have been 29 reported eruptions in recorded history.
Krafla includes one of the two best-known Víti craters of Iceland (the other is in Askja). The Icelandic word "víti" means "hell". In former times, people often believed hell to be under volcanoes. The crater Víti has a green lake inside of it.
The Krafla area also includes Námafjall, a geothermal area with boiling mudpools and steaming fumaroles.
The human figure helps to scale the boiling water lakes and introduce some dinamism into the frame. The afternoon sun light, made the rest enhancing those colours of the mood and the ground.

The Old Head of Kinsale, (in Irish, An Seancheann) is a headland near Kinsale, County Cork, Ireland. An early lighthouse was established here in the 17th century by Robert Reading. It is notable for being the nearest land point to the site of the sinking of the RMS Lusitania in 1915.
Since the golf course opened, access to the Old Head of Kinsale has been restricted to golfers and guests only....very disappointing.

Jokulsarlon is the best known and the largest of a number of glacial lakes in Iceland. Appearing first only in 1934-1935, the lake grew from 7.9 km² in 1975 to at least 18 km² today because of heavy melting of the Icelandic glaciers.
These Icebergs come from the lake directly to the open sea, and you can find them just on the shore of the beach, dragged by the waves.
The sun was coming out of the clouds, a long exposure did the rest to capture that wonderful ambient light.

Jokulsarlon, Islandia, 2010.

Lake Ljótipollur (Ugly-pond) is a crater lake really close to Landmannalaugar, in the Central Iceland area. The lake is in the bottom of a huge explosion crater, that erupted around the year 1480.
The place is gorgeous, impressive even with "bad" weather, the colours are saturated, radioactive. A gift for the eyes.
I shot underexposed on purpose, to saturate the colours, keep the gray tone in the cloud above and enhance the mood and cold present there.

When it is cloudy and the water is calmed, the image of the icebergs are mirrored on the lake's surface. The possibilities for photography thanks to symmetries are infinite with this conditions. There are small different water currents, which draw lines on that surface, visible like scratches on the mirror. 15 seconds of exposition did the rest.

Not great quality but a fun capture nonetheless, spotted these two playing in the garden a couple of weeks ago. Taken from the kitchen window through the double glazing. Pic has made the national press and been viewed nearly half a million times on twitter after a retweet from BBC Springwatch, nuts really.
The Skellig Islands (Irish: Na Scealaga), once known as the Skellocks, are two small, steep, and rocky islands lying about 13 km west of Bolus Head on the Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry, Ireland. They are famous for their thriving gannet and puffin populations, and for an early Christian monastery founded in the 7th century.
