In Kenya, people on the coasts live on fishing and tourism (lastly), however the first one has been and it will be their main sustenance.

Ironically, the increasing levels of piracy off the coast of Somalia have caused an unexpected spin-off, raising the levels of fish in the sea. Fisherman in Kenya have reported bumper catches of shark and shellfish because commercial fishing boats from China, Europe and Japan have been scared away.

The massive factory trawlers which used to drain their fish stocks have been scared away and that means there is a huge bounty for local fishermen as well as helping to restore the health of the marine eco-system.

That is a different point of view.

In 1974 the MV Irish Trader left the port of Sharpness in the Bristol Channel bound for Drogheda carrying a cargo of 410 tonnes of fertiliser when it ran aground on the soft sands of Baltray Beach, County Louth.

The reasons why it should flounder so near to Port are still unclear to this day but now some 36 years later there is very little left of her owing to the constant battering of the sea which returns twice a day to dismember her piece by piece.

Very soon there will be little or nothing left to see.

Because of the tides one has to carefully time when to visit the wreck to ensure access when the water is receding to its lowest ebb.

Three children staring at a Mzungu (a white man) and laughing because he had a photographic camera pointing at them. I visited one of my friend's family in his little hometown in Tahita Hills, but being "white" converts you into the center of attraction in a place like this.

Everyone is curious and kind in this area of Kenya, almost everybody shows a great smile when you look at them.

Group of Horses being lighted by Midnight Sun, in the North coast of Iceland, close to the Arctic Ocean.

This one was shot in Vatnsnes peninsula, at its northernmost point, at 3 in the morning. Sun is rising at North, thing which for a Spanish like me, is quite disturbing.

The light, the horses, the cold, the colours, the Ocean, the wind....all composed a kind of image taken of a story. I just shot with a slow speed shutter to get the moves of the horses.

Guardian of the City Palace in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

In India the people most obsessed with money aren't the poorest, but people with a way of living, like merchants, taxi drivers, or guardians of touristic places. It is a pity, that somebody who begs for food, is less worried about money than those!!

Great egret (Ardea alba) & Brown pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis) - Stann Creek District, Belize

I just got back from a week in Belize and am happy to say I have a few images to share. This was from the coast in a spot I unfortunately only learned about in the last day. There were a series of posts and various sea birds who wished to perch on them, unfortunately for the birds there were more birds than posts and fortunately for me this made for some fun photo opportunities as various birds flew in to already occupied areas. This lone great egret flew in and was met with this immovable brown pelican who defended his claim to the post. The egret decided not to test him and made a U turn in the air and flew off a ways to perch on the shoreline. I have a few other shots of similar interactions that I'll post but I thought I would start with a good one, this is quite possibly my favorite of the shots. Not a technically perfect photo by any means, there is plenty of room for improvement but I still like it.

Svartifoss (Black Fall) is the name of this waterfall in Skaftafell National Park in Iceland, and is one of the most popular sights in the park. It is surrounded by dark lava columns, which give rise to its name. The hexagonal columns were formed inside a lava flow which cooled extremely slowly, giving rise to crystallization.

The base of this waterfall is noteworthy for its sharp rocks. New hexagonal column sections break off faster than the falling water wears down the edges.

It was a cloudy-cloudy day, so why not shoot on B&W, anyway it was the shape of the rocks and the moving water what interested to my eye. I thought a long exposition would work for the image, the bright water, the dark stones....

Miss my b&w film camera loaded with an ISO 400 film, with its grain, its contrast....

Svartifoss, Skaftafell National Park, Iceland. 2010

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
