The Triumph Spitfire was produced as a small sportscar by Triumph over five generations between 1962-80. Originally designed by Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti and introduced at the 1962 London Motor Show (Earls Court). Developed on a shortened variant of the Triumph Herald saloon/sedan's chassis, the Spitfire shared the Herald's running gear and Standard SC engine. It was manufactured at the Standard-Triumph Canley works, with approximately 315,000 produced over 18 years

The Mark II was introduced in March 1965, visually similar to the Mark 1, with a retuned engine, featuring a revised camshaft profile, water-heated intake manifold, and tubular exhaust manifold, increasing power to 67 bhp. The coil-spring design clutch of the Mark I was replaced with a Borg & Beck diaphragm spring clutch. Exterior trim featured a new grille and badges, and the interior featured revised seats, while carpeting replaced the original rubber mats.

Its base price was £550, against £505 and £515, for the BMC Austin Healey Sprite and MG Midget.

x422 heads into Fort Erie under the signal bridge protecting Duff.

The previous day the the BCOL had lead 421 into Niagara and the same set of power late went out on 531 into Buffalo. After retuning from Buffalo 3115 didn't go out on the next days 422. After spending the day chasing train around Niagara I heard the crew of this x422 dial up for a light to Fort Erie, and fortunately I was lucky enough to get them a few times.

Banded Demoiselle, surprised to notice on my computer screen that he's lost a leg, didn’t seem to bother him in any way, kept flying off to catch prey and then retuning to the same reed. E-M1/40-150mm + 1.4x TC.

Will catch up later.

“The Watcher of the Well” (Built for the Burgomeister RELPO challenge of DA4)

Dahlia set out from Farakeen at nightfall. She was to deliver supplies to “The Watcher of the Well”. As a child, she heard stories that The Watcher was a specter who haunted the Vaulted Chasm. She was certain it was an embellished myth to keep trespassers away, and yet long journeys make for idle minds. Idle minds are where myths take root. As she crossed the Funeral Plains beneath the desert stars, she imagined the worst. Her stoic Fremen guide certainly did not offer her any reassurances.

After a long night’s journey, they arrived at the entrance to the Vaulted Chasm. First daylight crested the dunes and delivered the desert heat upon their backs. The maw beckoned them inward with its cool breath. They went inside and rested in its shadows. After a small meal, they pressed onward.

The chasm darkened and narrowed as they crept along the side-wall path. Step-by-step they trudged. Losing track of the day (or was it already night again?), an outline started to take shape around the arroyo bend. A gentle light from above softened its edges, while creeping shadows danced along the chasm walls.

They arrived at a desolate settlement built into a large scar on the rock face. There was a stone well in the central courtyard. Farther down the path was a bridge that spanned across the chasm to the other side. She noticed a solitary man standing upon the bridge, peering downward into the infinite darkness below. Hunched over the edge, he began chanting ancient words into the abyss. No echoes replied.

She pushed her misgivings aside and approached the bridge. She saw that the man was frail, feeble and blind. With his ancient form, he could certainly bear her no harm. She approached him closer. The Fremen guide grabbed her arm and put a finger to his mouth; Wait. Do not to disturb him. After some time had passed, and the old man was done with his prayer, she walked over to him on the bridge.

“Excuse me, sir. Are you “The Watcher of the Well”? We’ve come from Farakeen and have brought your supplies” … He gazed towards Dahlia’s voice with milky eyes. He raised a hand back towards the well, implying for them to be placed in the courtyard. She and the guide went back and placed the supplies where they were told.

Returning to the bridge, she inquired “If I may ask, what was that you were chanting?”

He replied back in hallowed tones, “Dear child of Arrakis, it is the penance to “Kevin the Kaiju”.”

She knew that Kevin was an old god of the sea; another ancient myth from a faraway time. “Why do you pray to a sea god, here of all places? What prayers can he answer in the middle of a desert?” She found humor in the irony.

His searching eyes stared back through her, and answered her question with another. “Do you know why the crest of Farakeen is the Golden Serpent?”

He continued; “Before our lands became an arid wasteland of desiccated dreams, it was a lush paradise. Our forebearers greedily partook of that bounty, and retuned no thanks to the old gods. This angered the gods and they brought down their wrath. It was Kevin who ravaged this land, and the sandworms are his legacy.

Kevin is the pater familias, consort to the Great Sandworms of Arrakis. His progeny are the very sandworms that both curse and bless our daily lives. We aren’t worthy to ingest the feces of the gods, and yet it is through their mercy that we ingest the excrement of their newborn children. It is the spice created from their excrement that provides us sight-beyond-sight. Our eyes turn the deep blue of the ocean abyss to remind us that it is Kevin who grants us this gift. It is He who is the “Golden Serpent”, as it is His gift has enriched our world… But that is not his only blessing…”

He paused a moment, as if listening to the stars. It was then that Dahlia finally heard faint echoes coming back from the abyss, delivering their reply back to the old man. “To answer your first question, yes. I am indeed the Watcher of the Well. When the well runs dry, it is I that calls out to Kevin to fill it once more. Floodwaters herald his return, and satiate the desert’s perpetual thirst.”

Suddenly a rush of air pushed past them, being chased by a crescendo of sound. Roaring waters teared at the chasm walls beneath them, climbing up to meet them.

Dahlia was terrified at the sound, and braced herself on the bridge. The Watcher was shaken and stumbled closer to the edge. “My child, lend me your arm. Kevin has come to us, and we must face him together. Hold onto my hand… tightly.”

She clasped his hand, and they stood together at the edge. A serpentine wave passed under the bridge, and the waters swirled at its sides. The Watcher was overcome with emotion, and knelt down at the edge. Dahlia’s hand still clutched tightly around his. Her eyes closed tightly shut.

The Watcher then spoke out in a voice that boomed like a chorus; “Kevin! Deliver your wrath upon our enemies!” With the prayer delivered, only the tribute was left to be paid. The Watcher closed his eyes, leaned forward, and fell over the side of the bridge. His grasp pulled Dahlia downward with him and into Kevin’s embrace.

This is how the 52nd “Watcher of the Well” had faithfully completed his duties. The Fremen guide, having borne witness to these events, gathered up the supplies from the well and took them into the nearest sheltered alcove… and began his duties as the 53rd “Watcher of the Well”.

So on the recommendation of my beloved SIL, I got my first canon870 about 10 years ago and fell in *love* with the way it handled macros. Because I did love it, when I had to send it out, I got a back up and then later a backup for my backup… grin. They’re all out bc I need to send one (all?) in for retuning of the screen in the back or somesuch. The repair ppl are still in business— yahoo!!

I am now in the 18th month of my 6 month experimentation of/with my iPhoneSEs’ capabilities. While I do like what it can do- macro-wise- and how readily available it is, nothing beats the 870. Methinks I’d like to get back to it (or them).

We got this guitar as a set for home assembly. The body was not painted and the neck didn't quite fit onto the body but we (my son and I) managed to get it done. We may dis-assemble and work on the headstock to make it nicer looking at some point. The surprising thing is that It actually sounds like a Tele and it even stays in tune now after some weeks of retuning at least daily. Intonation etc migt also be off but we are learning and will get into shape practising with/on this axe.

The Alpine A110 is a rear mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports car, designed by Deyan Denkov (exterior) and Laurent Negroni (interior), and introduced at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. Deliveries began in late 2017 for Continental European markets and in 2018 for the UK, Japan and Australia

Built with an an all-aluminium construction, the A110 is powered by a 1.8-litre turbocharged gasoline direct injection 4 valves per cylinder inline-four engine mated to a 7-speed Getrag dual-clutch transmission. The engine was developed under a Nissan-Renault joint venture and reworked by Alpine. The A110 is available in three trims: Pure, Première, and Legende with all three sharing the same 249bhp powertrain and transmission.

The A110 was initially available in three trims: Pure, Première, and Legende. The Pure cars, the base trim, have 17-inch alloy wheels.

The Première trim cars are technically the launch edition models which were limited to 1,955 units, a reference to the founding year of the Alpine brand, and were equipped with amenities such as forged alloy wheels, quilted leather Sabelt bucket sports seats, a reversing camera, and metallic blue exterior colour as standard. Pre-orders for the special First Edition opened on 7 December 2016, Alpine says all units were booked in one weekend, with customers charged a deposit of 5,000 Euros, with Alpine stating that the price would come in between 55,000 and 60,000 Euro with deliveries from late 2017, in March 2017 it was confirmed that price would be 58,000 Euro

The Legende trim cars come with six-way adjustable sports seats, black or brown leather interior upholstery, and an upgraded hi-fi sound system along with specially designed wheels exclusive to this trim. All of the three trims share the same powertrain and transmission. From 2020 the The Pure trim level was replaced by the Alpine A110, with no other badging. The Légende was replaced by the Alpine A110 GT which employed the same engine as the A110 S.

The Alpine 110S was introduced in June 2019, is a high performance and lightweight variant of the A110. The A110S benefits from increased power output (from 252 to 292 PS (249 to 288 hp), from its 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine as well as stiffer springs, new anti-rollbars, dampers, and high performance brakes. The ride height slightly lowered and the car is fitted with special Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres having a stickier compound contributing to more grip on the tarmac. The engine was retuned and a larger turbocharger installed. The peak power is achieved at 1400 rpm higher than the standard engine. The 7-speed dual-clutch transmission remains unchanged. The new springs and anti-roll bars are respectively 50 and 100 percent stiffer than the standard car. The ESC system has also been retuned to improve handling and comes with a full-defeat mode Aesthetic changes include flag motifs, orange brake calipers and optional matte grey paintwork and lighter Fuchs alloy wheels. An optional carbon fibre roof with a gloss finish reduces 1.9 kg (4 lb) from the total weight of the car which is 1,114 kg

ZZ330, Airbus A330 MRTT Voyager KC2 (CN 1046) of the Royal Air Force touches down on Glasgow Prestwick Airport's runway 30 after a short hop from RAF Brize Norton before retuning around an hour later. This cycle seems to be undertaken numerous times per week, with nothing loaded or unloaded. I suspect the contract with Air Tanker stipulates a minimum guaranteed utilisation of the aircraft, meaning crews are obliged to bore pointless holes in the sky to hit the hours target. Happy to be corrected on that one.

TS Maybe was built in 1929 and owned by Jan Jacob Van Rietschoten, father of the flying Dutchman, Cornelis ‘Conny’ Van Rietschoten, the only skipper to win the Whitbread Round the World Race twice.

In the hands of the Rietschoten family, TS Maybe spent many years sailing around the world.

A major milestone in the ship's history was participation in the first ever International Tall Ships Race in 1956.

She is now one of the few vessels that took part in that first race to still be competing in the International Tall Ship Races.

In 1962, TS Maybe was bought by the Swiss family Hans Fehr, who were experienced sailors and enjoyed sailing in warmer climates. She sailed mainly around the Mediterranean and in the 1970s regularly crossed the Atlantic between the West Indies and the Mediterranean.

During the 1980s she also sailed through the Panama Canal and up the East coast of the USA to Canada.

Tall ship Maybe was sold to her present owners in 1989 and underwent another complete restoration retuning to sailing in 2007.

She returned to the International Tall Ship Races in the Baltics in 2009. In 2011, TS MAYBE was restored to her original gaff ri

RAF Airbus KC2 Voyager ZZ336 passing overhead East Midlands as Tartn19 at 14,000ft retuning to Brize Norton after a exercise around the North Sea.

Some places are much more tricky to photograph then others, and in some of those cases, you might start suspecting they did it on purpose.

The Tower Bridge is one of the later category: The lighting on it is so incredibly bright and of such an unattractive pattern, and the shadows on it so incredibly dark and in-your-face that it's nearly impossible to get a decent exposure of it. Even with throwing all my multi-shot-hdr techniques at it and balancing as much of the overly bright and dark bits as I could, I'm still not complete sold on the shot yet. I'm going to have to go back a few times and either get it when the lights are off (do they ever go off?) or before it's dark.

With all that being said, it is a wonderful bridge though so I won't mind retuning a few times to get it perfect.

British Eagle Vickers V707 G-APZB "City of Newcastle" is on the apron at Birmingham City Elmdon airport.

The aircraft was new to Aer Lingus in March 1954 as EI-AFV, in February 1960 it was sold to Tradair (Southend) as G-APZB, in November 1962 it was sold to Starways of Liverpool. British Eagle International took over their routes in June 1964 whereupon the aircraft reverted to Aviation Overhauls Ltd and stored at Liverpool until it was leased to British Eagle in June 1964. it was only operated for one season and then retuned to Aviation Overhauls Ltd. They sold it to Channel Airways who leased it back to British Eagle from January until May 1965. The plane was retired at Southend in May 1968 and broken up there in February 1970. Peter's picture was taken at the time of its lease to British Eagle from Channel Airways.

The picture was taken therefore in early 1965.

[...] In initiation, we understand the individual or collective launch into a new phase of life (eg transition from childhood to adulthood, marriage), in a new sacred or profane Office (eg, shaman, priest) or a new group (eg, secret society order):

"Initiation, initiation is lively retuning, agreement on contents, nature, Numina, by mere knowledge acquisition can indeed proceed in terms of possession, which are really our own but only through the vitality profoundly transform experience, with him going into the design of soul and world and be unquestionably's own mind. "

If the initiations under the picture of a disease, they can serve as a model for a disease process that leads to a cure, which leads out the opportunities and skills of pre-existing condition.

We can speak of a "plus healing," a concept that our western medical thinking has not been sufficiently appreciated.

If a nomadic hunter-gatherer society is settled and the agricultural economy is, the current classless structure changes in ever more complex social strata.

In the social development process, the shaman seems to disappear and be replaced by special specialists to take the individual aspects of the shaman's role to be. The aspect of healing is to medicine men, healers, later taken over doctors and specialists, said it to a split in one hand, body medicine and psychotherapy on the other hand is. Today's psychosomatic medicine is a renewed link dar.

The reference to the spirits, the ancestors will be taken over by priests. The enormous acting abilities of the shamans (dance, mime, singing, music, clothing design, telling of the myths of the tribe) are taken up by the various art media and autonomous development.

The role and knowledge of the shaman as the "oldest profession in the world" live on in those professions. The here presented then to the shamanism initiation phenomena among priests, artists and psychotherapists are therefore not arbitrary selection: These professionals belong to the heirs of the shaman "they have them in their common professional ancestors.

This has now been named the first thesis of this book: It goes to prove that similar spontaneous self-initiations in key structural elements of the shaman initiations are a recent phenomenon. Initiations are held today, yet mostly unrecognized, in secret, among others, often hidden behind psychiatric concepts and procedures.

For the sequence of initiations of the anthropologist Arnold van Gennep has worked out the same cross-culturally consistent sequence.

His three-step model includes a Separation, the old status of dissociation dissociation rites with a margin, the transformation time with rites of conversion, and a Agrégation, the introduction to the new status with affiliation rituals. [...]

.

Seen here on Albyn Grove First Aberdeen Hydrogen Powered Wright Streetdeck-FCEV 39711 operating a Service 11 to Northfield squeezes past Stagecoach Bluebird Alexander Dennis Enviro350Hybrid 29002 while operating a Service 6 to Westhill.

Due to the closure of Albyn Place for roadworks First services 11, 13, 23 & X27 and Stagecoach services 4/5/6, 14 & 218 have been diverted via Union Grove and Albyn Grove. This is quite a narrow diversion with the turn from Albyn Grove on to Union Grove being particularly problematic due to street furniture and parked vehicles.

Streetdecks have appeared on the 11 before however it is an uncommon allocation, in this instance Enviro500 38216 had failed on a prior run and 39711 which had just retuned to the depot having worked a peak 3/3A board was quickly drafted in to resume the service.

MAYBE was built in 1929 and owned by Jan Jacob Van Rietschoten, father of the flying Dutchman, Cornelis ‘Conny’ Van Rietschoten, the only skipper to win the Whitbread Round the World Race twice.

In 2011, TS MAYBE was restored to her original gaff rig.

We have just retuned from a week in the stunning Cairngorms, the weather wasn't great but we made the most of it none the less.

Loch Morlich was our base for the week. This was taken on the day we arrived, it was the best chance we had to do a landscape as the forecast for the rest of the week was rather poor. Here you can see Cairngorm mountain and the ski centre in the background.

I don't like to get up early, but one weekend morning I decided to drive to the coastal village of Quriat to photograph at sunrise. I took some shots of the village, and then a fisherman paddled by in a traditional wood fishing boat. I couldn't pass up that shot... Some time later the daughter of one of my friends made a pencil drawing of this and gave it to me. I framed it and still have it hanging in my house.

When I retuned to visit Oman in 2005, an artificial harbor had been constructed at this spot and it was filled with new fiberglass fishing boats. Progress, for sure, but sometimes I like the old way... Scanned Velvia slide from my archives.
