The MG ZS (2001–2005) was a sports family car. The ZS is essentially a tuned version of the Rover 45 (which was launched in 1999).
The model was rapidly created from the Rover 45 after BMW sold off Rover in 2000. Development of the model was greatly accelerated by the fact that Rover had already created 400-series prototypes of the car using V6 engines and sporting suspension set-ups. In fact, MG-Rover developed MG versions of all three Rover cars on sale at the time. The Rover 25 became the MG ZR, the 45 the ZS and the 75 the ZT.
As a Rover, the 45 was optimised for comfort rather than handling — however, as an MG the opposite was the case. The ZS 180, offering 175 bhp (130 kW; 177 PS) from a 2.5 L V6 engine and acceleration to 60 mph in 7.3 seconds, received favourable reviews in the press, with particular praise for its steering, handling and suspension.
In 2004 the ZS was face-lifted with the rest of the MG Rover range. The retro design cues adopted when the 400 became the 45 were mostly dropped. For the first time the Rover 45 and MG ZS became noticeably different looking cars – at least in the high specification ZS180 version. Wheel-arch extensions, side vents in the wings and other touches delivered a distinctive look for the new ZS. The 2004 model also received a revised interior with new seat materials, a new dash design incorporating climate control on the range topping 180 models.
MG ZS production ceased in April 2005 on the bankruptcy of MG Rover, and the rights to make the car were soon repossessed by Honda - who owned the rights to the original 1995 design.
Nanjing Automobile of China bought the assets of MG Rover in July 2005, and the ZS's successor—the MG6—was eventually announced in 2009.

An interesting attempt to convey the retro influences of Fossil with their interpretations, or sampling, one might say, from the past. I've always had mixed feelings about Fossil's choice of nostalgia as a branding strategy. Without question they caught the eye of designers early on as their work was showing up in all the annuals.
What it spawned was far too much half baked nostalgia influenced design by lesser practitioners who spent little time truly studying the styles from which they stole.
I-5 Design and Manufacture created a 3D conceptual design for the interior and exterior of the Woodies Café located in Santa Cruz, California. Producing a playful and retro-casual destination feel for the café which would portray a fun atmosphere based around the idea of classic “Woodies” automobiles and the surrounding beach environment for the whole family to enjoy, was the goal behind these custom designs. In the interior, décor elements such as a thatched roof over the order counter, automobile memorabilia such as tires and license plates, custom designed wall mural band around the top perimeter of the ceiling and more create a look that is timeless and classic. “What is Creative Mondays?
Monday’s are always a drag. The start of a new week, you have to go back to that routine of going to bed early/get up early. If (like me) you have to commute then you prepare for that long journey into work and that long journey back for the first time after a nice two day break.
So to kick off those lousy Mondays, I’m going to get my creative mind flowing in a positive way. Creative Mondays. A chance for me to show off something unfinished or finished that I’ve been working on throughout the previous week.”
This week’s going all retro. I think I got James White’s awesome video game illustrations stuck in my head as I wanted to try and create that Nintendo Zapper for myself. Just something so slick and cool about the design of the device, as I kid I always wanted to remove the cable and just use it as my toy gun and be “that guy from the future”. I was a weird kid.
Initially I created the outline and the gun shape in Illustrator and exported the shapes onto multiple layers in Photoshop. There I built up each section of the gun’s shading and lighting effects while including a background and some text.
