Auf Wiedersehen Achim,
Condor Boeing 767-300ER extended range D-ABUM, named Achim, in its special 1980's retro livery, since it joined the fleet in 2012 from Alitalia.
In January 2023, retro D-ABUM was retired from service, departing out of Frankfurt Hahn, Germany for the last time on the 23rd January, heading for Phoenix, Arizona.
The 767 fleet is now being replaced by new A330Neo's, the first for Condor was delivered in December 2022.
Goodbye Achim
Am Nachmittg des 4. Junis ging es dann nach Günzach, wo unweit der Günzquelle der nachmittägliche InterCity 2085 "Nebelhorn" aus Hamburg-Altona bzw. Augsburg Hbf nach Oberstdorf fotografiert werden konnte. Zuglok an diesem schönen Sommertag war 218 443-0 "Donna" von DB-Gebrauchtzug im Retrodesign des Touristikzuges.
On the afternoon of June 4th, we went to Günzach, where not far away from the Günz spring, InterCity 2085 "Nebelhorn" from Hamburg-Altona (respectively Augsburg Hbf) to Oberstdorf could be photographed. On this beautiful summer day 218 443-0 "Donna" from DB-Gebrauchtzug painted in the retro design of the tourist train was hauling the train through the Allgäu region.

Spotted in May 2025, this Irish Rail General Motors Class 071 engine in its snazzy orange retro livery is like a time machine on tracks! Back in the late 1970s, when these beauties first rolled into Ireland, they were the talk of the town—fresh off the boat from General Motors, ready to haul everything from passengers to freight with a rumble that could wake the sleepiest of villages. Seeing this vibrant orange beast today, chugging along the tracks with the Dublin skyline in the background, feels like a warm hug from the past. It’s as if the loco is saying, “I’m still here, folks, and I’ve still got that 70s swagger!”
The Class 071s were the rockstars of Irish Rail back in the day, and this retro livery brings all those memories flooding back—kids waving at the train as it passed, the thrill of hearing its horn echo through the countryside, and the sheer awe of its power. Parked here beside the modern high-rises and that distant church spire, it’s a perfect blend of old and new, a reminder of simpler times when a train like this was the height of cool. So here’s to the 071, still stealing the show in 2025, proving that some classics never go out of style—just like a good pair of flared jeans or a catchy disco tune!

KT 50305 Maschen Rbf (Mswf) - Basel Bad Rbf (Gr A)
Kurz vor "Licht aus" rollte mir am Abend des 27. April 2025 bei Suderburg das heimliche Highlight der ganztägigen Fototour an die KBS 110 vor die Linse. Nachdem bereits das SmartRail 111-Doppel mit dem "Max Bögl"-Zementzug erfolgreich eingetütet werden konnte, gab es wenig später das nächste nette Foto für die Sammlung. Es war ein Containerzug aus Maschen nach Basel in einer WhatsApp-Gruppe angekündigt worden. Dieser sollte mit der "Zeitgeist"-Werbemaschine aka 145 021-6 der RBH bespannt sein. Kurz bevor dann die Schlagschatten des hinter mir stehenden Windrades am Gleis angekommen waren, war in der Ferne am Anfang der langen Gerade, eine grüne Lokfront zu sehen. Etwa 30sek später rollte die blitzsaubere Elektrolok mit einem bunten CT-Zug durch den Auslösepunkt und auf die SD-Karten von drei wartenden Kameras. Wer sich das Foto bzw. die Lokfront genauer anschaut, der wird feststellen, dass das Glas vom Scheinwerfergehäuse in Fahrtrichtung links ziemlich blind erscheint. Ich habe zuerst gedacht, dass dies eine ungünstige Spiegelung ist. Allerdings scheint es eher, dass das Glas defekt oder milchig geworden ist. Womit ich wohl gar nicht so falsch liegen dürfte. Ich habe nämlich ein aktuelleres Foto bei Flickr gefunden, welches etwa gut zwei Wochen später aufgenommen wurde und die E-Lok mit einem neuen bzw. getauschten Lampengehäuse in verkehrsrot zeigt. Nun ist die Frage, ob der Rahmen des Gehäuses jemals wieder grün beklebt wird. Somit hatte ich wohl das Glück die Werbelok im schönsten Abendlicht noch mit kompletter RAG-Retrobeklebung am Führerstand 1 erwischt zu haben…

DGS 69218 Bremen Inlandshafen - Lu Wb-Piesteritz
Ganz knapp bevor das Licht endgültig in der Gleisachse stand. Kam die DR-farbenden LEG 155ziger mit einem Kesselwagenzug an einer etwas größeren Fotografenmeute am 2. April 2014 bei Dörverden vorbei. Leider macht sich LEG mit den hübschen und sehr gepflegten retrofarbenden Fahrzeugen bei Tageslicht extrem rar. Bisher war es bei mir immer mehr Glück und Zufall eine LEG-Leistung bei Licht zu erlegen.
This is the retro looking Nokton 58mm f1.4 from Voigtlander. It has the same optical formula as the previous Nokton 58 f1.4 - which puts it in the top end of 50mm lenses. It looks a bit like the original Nikkor 58mm f1.4 from 1960 - but is a vast improvement on this lens! It never was Nikon's best lens - quickly superseded by the 50mm f1.4.
The lens just arrived so I haven't had a chance to take it outside for testing - but as the weekend is offering plenty of low light opportunities (3 storm systems coming through with rain etc) - it will get its chance!

Im Jahr 2009 waren die Personenzüge von Budapest nach Lajosmizse fest in der Hand von M41-Wendezügen. Am nördlichen Wärterhäuschen des Bahnhofs Kispest kreuzt die Budapester Straßenbahn die Bahnstrecke.
M41 2103 ist heute besser bekannt als die Lok im roten Retrodesign, damals hatte sie noch die normale Lackierung, wie sie auch heute noch an den Diesellokomotiven zu finden ist.
Die BMW R 18 ist ein Motorradmodell des Fahrzeugherstellers BMW im Segment der Cruiser. Das im Retrodesign gehaltene Motorrad wurde am 3. April 2020 vorgestellt und gelangte im September 2020 in den Handel. Ende Juli 2021 wurden drei weitere Modelle vorgestellt: R 18 Classic, R 18 B („Bagger“) und R 18 Transcontinental. Im Mai 2023 wurde die R18 Roctane herausgebracht.

► █░▓ LAST SUMMER I payed a visit to my watchmaker. After almost four years I was looking forward to se him and replace a battery in my watch. A young woman, which happened to be his daughter in law, stood behind the counter. She said that he had passed away. I was struck. He was a relatively young and good, healthy looking man. A real gentleman, like all watchmakers used to be in old Belgrade.
—She took my condolences and kindly let me take a picture of this old watch in the drawer while I was still confused with what I'd just heard.
This old Eterna watch plays kind of a symbolic roll in my memory. We've been using other devices to read time for a while already. In this electronic day and age not just the watchmakers pass away, as they always have; their craft is dying too. Along with a superb craft of designing and making beautiful watches like this one. Let anyone show me any modern watch design that can distantly match this one.
The time has stopped for the watchmaker and his favorite timepiece; the eternity has obviously opened up. But note that the pointer hasn’t reached ETERNA, and that both the pointers are slightly bent and have a broken part. Even the time – for us humans the boldest, the least malleable and the most insurmountable of all dimensions – has to stop at the gate of eternity.
We will never be truly able to understand eternal life from the perspective of this world. Yet, there are so many people who think that something they don’t fathom cannot be true or even doesn’t exist, just because they cannot grasp it.

Aer Lingus Saint Colman Airbus A320, superbly painted in Aer Lingus 1970's fleet livery, rotating off Dublin's runway 28 with the newish control tower in the background.
EI-DVM was delivered to Aer Lingus in March 2011 in a blaze of fanfare to celebrate the airlines 75 years in service.
Known as " retrojet ", allot of the veteran worldwide carriers have been painting their own fleets in past colours, adding some colour & nostalgia.
Polish LOT Airlines Embraer E175LR "SP-LIM " in special retro livery visits Dublin from Warsaw.
SP-LIM was delivered to LOT in May 2010.
To celebrate LOT's 90th anniversary, SP-LIM was painted into this special retro livery in December 2018, depicting the carriers colours of the 50's to mid 60's.
There is also some old advertisement posters of LOT from the 1960's inside the cabin.
A little really does mean alLOT.
Der VW T1, genauer VW Typ 2 T1, auch Bulli genannt, war ein Kleintransporter der Volkswagenwerk GmbH (ab 1960: AG). Der T1 war das erste Modell der VW-Bus-Reihe, deren Modelle offiziell VW Transporter und intern Typ 2 genannt werden. Nach dem VW Käfer, intern Typ 1, ist der VW-Bus die zweite Baureihe des VW-Werkes für die zivile Nutzung und wird bis heute als VW T5/T6 produziert. Der Transporter wurde ab 1949 entwickelt und 1950 zur Marktreife gebracht. Der Wagen, der während seiner Bauzeit Marktführer war, gilt als ein Symbol des deutschen Wirtschaftswunders. Auf seiner Basis entstand eines der ersten Reisemobile.
Im Werk Wolfsburg und im Volkswagenwerk Hannover (ab 1956) liefen insgesamt 1,8 Millionen T1 in verschiedenen Ausführungen vom Band. Mit Beginn der Produktion des Nachfolgemodells VW T2 im Werk Hannover endete 1967 die Fertigung des T1. Ein im Unterschied zu den späteren Weiterentwicklungen des VW-Busses in seinem Retrodesign an die T1/T2-Modelle erinnernder VW Microbus wurde 2004 von Volkswagen als Konzeptfahrzeug präsentiert, erreichte aber nicht die Serienreife

The Volkswagen Type 2 T1, known officially (depending on body type) as the Transporter, Kombi or Microbus, or, informally, as the Bus (US) or Camper (UK), is a forward control panel van introduced in 1950 by the German automaker Volkswagen as its second car model. Following – and initially deriving from Volkswagen's first model, the Type 1 (Beetle) – it was given the factory designation Type 2.
As one of the forerunners of the modern cargo and passenger vans, the Type 2 gave rise to forward control competitors in the United States in the 1960s, including the Ford Econoline, the Dodge A100, and the Chevrolet Corvair 95 Corvan, the latter adopting the Type 2's rear-engine configuration.
European competition included the 1947-1981 Citroën H Van, the 1959-1980 Renault Estafette (both FF layout), and the 1953-1965 FR layout Ford Transit.
Japanese manufacturers also introduced the platform in different configurations, such as the Nissan Caravan, Toyota LiteAce and the Subaru Sambar.
Like the Beetle, the van has received numerous nicknames worldwide, including the "microbus", "minibus", and, because of its popularity during the counterculture movement of the 1960s, Hippie van/wagon, and still remains iconic for many hippies today.
Brazil contained the last factory in the world that produced the T2. Production in Brazil ceased on December 31, 2013, due to the introduction of more stringent safety regulations in the country. This marks the end of an era with the rear-engine Volkswagens manufactured (after the 2002 termination of its T3 successor in South Africa), which originated in 1935 with their Type 1 prototypes.

Gegenüber dem Vorgängermodell gehört die Front mit gewölbter durchgehender Frontscheibe (im englischen Sprachraum „bay window“ genannt) und integriertem Lüftungsgitter für den Innenraum ohne V-förmigen „Latz“ des Vorgängers zu den sichtbaren Neuerungen. Die Luft für die Motorkühlung wird über ausgestellte seitliche Öffnungen in Fensterhöhe an den hinteren Wagenecken angesaugt. Die Türfenster sind Kurbelfenster, die Ausstellfenster waren Sonderausstattung. Die Fensterfläche wurde verdoppelt. An den Seiten hat der Bus zwei große statt drei kleiner Fenster (das Fenster in der Fahrertür nicht mitgezählt). Die Karosserie ist bei gleichem Radstand und gleicher Breite um 20 cm länger. Am Führerhaus verläuft sie parallel gerade, im Gegensatz zur leicht eingezogenen und stark gerundeten Fahrerkabine des T1. Die Scheibenwaschanlage arbeitet wie beim Käfer pneumatisch.
Im Innenraum hat der Transporter ein durchgehendes Armaturenbrett aus Blech mit einer Kunststoffblende und einem Instrumenteneinsatz mit Tachometer, Kraftstoffanzeige und Uhr (Sonderausstattung), weiterhin zusätzliche Luftaustrittsöffnungen, eine Radio- und Lautsprecheraussparung sowie ein Handschuhfach mit Deckel (Sonderausstattung). Die seitliche Schiebetür wurde im Gegensatz zum Vorgängermodell serienmäßig.
