They fish for coins to stay afloat
BIJNOR: Not many people who throw coins into the Ganga, in the hope that their wish will be granted, are aware that what is spare change for them is a source of survival for some of Bijnor's children. Children near the Ganga barrage dive into the holy river every day to retrieve coins. Mona Kashyap, a 16-year-old, said, "After my father passed away during my childhood, I adopted the task of collecting coins from the river. This is the only source of income for my mother and me. I manage to collect Rs 80 to Rs 100 every day. If I don't collect that much money then my mother would not be able to have food. I also indulge in manual labour, later in the day, to make ends meet." Some kids tie a magnet to the end of a rope, that they hang from the barrage, so they don't have to dive all the way to the bottom. Others, however, plunge deep into the holy river. 12-year-old Golu, said, "I collect Rs 50 to Rs 60 every day. After I am done from here, I wash utensils at a dhaba in the city, where I get Rs 2,000 per month." When 12-year-old Golu was asked if he wishes to study, he says with a smile, "That's the reason I work so hard! I want to earn a lot of money, so I So I can join school."

Flown and retrieved shuttle Solid Rocket Booster Separation Motor (BSM) from the forward section of a Shuttle SRB. The BSM is the rocket motor that separates the reusable solid rocket boosters (SRB) from the main tank before the orbiter leaves the atmosphere. The BSM weighs 177 pounds when loaded with propellant and is 31 inches long.
About 2+ minutes into a space shuttle flight, 16 of these small, but powerful, motors are fired simultaneously for 1.2 seconds. This provides the precise thrust angled away to safely separate the spent boosters from the space shuttle’s ET and Orbiter. Altogether, there are 8 such BSMs attached to each of the twin reusable SRBs, four on the forward skirt and 4 on the aft skirt. The BSMs in each cluster are ignited while traveling through the atmosphere at more than 3,000 mph with an altitude of about 24 nautical miles.
The BSMs are produced by ATK Launch Systems Group, part of Alliant Techsystems (ATK) Inc., at their production plant in Brigham City, Utah. Top is stamped X33012 and the nozzle enclosure B12007-01-01 MMA7075
Retrieving doesn't come naturally to Flynn but I've been working on getting him to fetch & physically put objects into my hand for a while now. We started training when he learnt to get into my laundry & I repeatedly found him triumphantly prancing about my room, holding an old sock. Flynn has a... history... with socks. He used to eat them - no, he used to swallow them, whole. Sock-swallowing obviously isn't a healthy hobby, so I try to keep them out of reach but failing that, I've been attempting to show him that the best thing to do with socks, isn't to sneak off & eat them like noodles, it's to *bring* them right to me & swap the sock for an even tastier dog treat.
Flynn's tastes are perhaps rather peculiar but even he recognises sausage is nicer than old socks, so he's now quite good at sock-fetching. Not just socks either - at home, I now frequently get everything from pennies to tiny scraps of paper thrust into my hands, or put on my knee, in expectation that a snack will be given in thanks! He's even successfully fetching large objects - yesterday, for example, he retrieved 2 of my t-shirts. Admittedly, I only needed them passing over because Flynn pulled them out the washing pile & threw them on the floor, while looking for more socks...
Flynn's still not brilliant at properly retrieving toys on walks though! Once I've thrown a ball, he rarely brings it back to my hand, or feet, preferring to *place* it on the path, a few meters ahead of me. It's hit & miss whether I ever actually get hold of the ball even after he's let it go. It gets positioned very carefully, to be in the right place for me to get it... but Flynn lacks patience. He'll retreat to give me a few seconds to grab the ball but if I'm too slow catching up, he takes great delight in pouncing in & running off with it again. Often Flynn ends up playing long games of "fetch" all by himself!
#12 Book first published in 1921 or earlier (121 Pictures in 2021)
Published in 1905 and written by Major W.G. Eley. With 8 illustrations, including "An Old Favourite" (a Flat-Coat, of course!) and this copy is inscribed in faded ink just inside the cover, "A very Merry Christmas from your Old Shooting Chum” and given to me by a very dear friend.
This petite Brittany is one of the hardest-working bird dogs I've ever seen. Loves to hunt, staunch on point, and an eager retriever to hand.
I wanted to take this photo of a toy car that was on top of some bookshelves. As I reached up to take hold, it rolled away and fell down behind the bookshelves. Happily, I have a golf club which I retrieved from a skip some years ago. It was just the right thing to enable me to hook the toy car out.
After 8 weeks of confinement because a tibial plateau leveling osteotomy, Winston our first blue merle australian shepherd is happy to be retrieving again.
This photo has been up for about a year and a half--nearly 2 years. Six months ago, Winston began refusing food and losing weight. Three months ago, we were told he had lymphosarcoma of the GI tract. On March 10, 2008, Winston was called to go retrieve Heaven's Daily News and tennis balls.
Darren has spent the last three months in Italy, travelling for work. His flight was coming in tonight, so the kids and I headed to the Columia area to hangout for the afternoon, before heading to the airport to wait for his flight. We stopped at Roots, then went to Centennial Park for a nice long walk, then headed to the mall for a ride on the carousel, wrapping up at Whole Foods Market for dinner. Darren's flight was delayed a half an hour, but arrived safely, and we were all very happy to see him!

Lotus retrieves "her" ball.
I took her out with Saxon and I a bit over a week ago now, because my mum was sick, we went to her local off-lead park where she spent most of the time sniffing ... her ball retrieving play has dropped off without the doggy competition I think

Retrieved from the cutting room floor, here we see Sanders former Reading Buses Wright bodied Scania L94UB type 318 - YN06 NXR shortly after arriving to work a school contract journey from Buxton Primary School to RAF Coltishall. Not a good idea these days to be seen near a school with a camera, but realising that the children were still in class I grabbed a quick snap of the bus before they appeared.
Since taking this shot, the RAF Coltishall site has been renamed Badersfield and currently, according to the NCC website, this contract, which takes just ten minutes to complete, is now operated by Norse Commercial Services. The new houses in the background are built on the site previously occupied by C F Woodcock t/a Bure Valley Coaches and at one time he held a licence to operate a school day only service between the same points.
Made Explore currently at #73 A Huge thank you to all ~
I was finally able to go out with the everyone to take some shots, I am happy I got this one. I didn't have a flash with me & the light started to go quick, we had to actually go make her re-retrieve a few times so I could get some better shots this was about 45 minutes after they were all done with the hunt, but after reviewing my shots I was not thrilled so we tossed it back in the water for some additional shots & I got a few keepers :)
Many of the shots were just too noisy for my taste due to the light... thats what happens when you have OLD equiptment I guess

Marco loved retrieving the Pheasant Pelt dummy. So much so that when I went to switch camera lenses and placed it on the BBQ he jumped onto the BBQ, grabbed the dummy and jumped off. Snot ran to me and looked at me as if to say "okay got it, can you throw it again now?!" Don't think we'll have a problem with a mouth full of feathers when we start our hunt training!

They are dog retrieve toys made from tennis balls. With the rope you can throw it for a long ways and when the dog retrieves it you don’t have to touch the slimy part. We are making them for my wife’s puppy class. The puppies and their owners graduate and they all get a bally. I have to make 20 of them by Monday.

The millstone will be on permanent display at the Allis-Bushnell House parking area. The South Central Regional Water Authority donated a large ~4' diameter millstone on their Summer Hill Road property. The age and use of the old artifact is unknown.

Mrs. (Loree) Murray, who died March 27 (2009) at 88 of pancreatic cancer, founded the Near Northeast Citizens Against Crime and Drugs to lead street patrols that helped police document evidence of drug dealing. She was joined by a handful of other men and women, including a 105-year-old who had once worked for the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters.
"She was one of the first people who decided to take back her community, and to do that, she had to break up some of the most notorious drug rings operating at Second and K streets Northeast," said developer Ronald J. Cohen, who worked with Mrs. Murray to win community support for a building project on land that had once been a haven for vice.
He said Mrs. Murray no longer wanted her neighborhood to be seen as "the other side of the tracks."
Cohen said he plans to name a building in her honor. The "Loree Grand" will be part of the Union Place residential-retail complex, scheduled to open next spring at 200 K St. NE.
