Spotted on my ride to the Amtrak station. It was perched on railroad switching gear, and seemed interested in what I was doing, as I was retrieving my camera, but not particularly skittish.
Eva retrieving her water toy on the wrong side of the dock. Our dock is close to the property line so this side is almost in our neighbour's lot. A different perspective for me.
I put this in my 'negative space' set for Studio 26, even though some of my other goPro water shots may not have fit the definition well. I think this one is leading lines, and the sky is relatively cloudless. My apologies to Stephanie who may be offended by the clutter to the left of the frame.
This was how I meant for Shyla to retrieve my "hunter orange" hat. See the next photo for the funny version that Shyla did by accident!
Warm sun - long daylight hours - temperatures above the freezing mark in the sun - and shrew's spotted playing on top of the snow today. Could it possibly be the start of the spring thaw in Alaska? One can only hope.
Under the feet of snow around our cabin, pussy willows are waiting to bud out. Until I can photograph them, I rummaged through my archives and retrieved this one for today's post.
I played around with one branch of willow buds for this shot.
The millstone will be on permanent display at the Allis-Bushnell House parking area. The South Central Regional Water Authority donated a large ~4' diameter millstone on their Summer Hill Road property. The age and use of the old artifact is unknown.
Space ball jump.
Im quite pleased with the light in this photo, though some of the other frames in this set are are more interesting in terms of the actual substance.. Still, this is one of my favourites in terms of light !
Bare 430 EX camera left, Triggered with elinchrome skyports. Flash flown by Hannu Halla-aho.
This is one of several photos I made of this dog retrieving a tennis ball that its owner threw into the San Francisco Bay water from shore. I shot this from a distance using the telephoto capabilities of my Canon Powershot SX50.
The General's Residence was demolished on 8/25/2020 to make room for a replica building. During the demo, the architect supervised the removal of significant features such as these beams and posts. These pieces will be used in the reconstruction or kept for other display.

Currently, we are training with Milla to carry the dummy on its padded side. As you can see we are not always fortunate with our training, since she loves to carry it on its sling :) Doing that the dummy bounces in her face all the time. Fortunately, she retrieves very reliable and is not distracted by that :D
from the archives, 2013...clean up after Hurricane Sandy...we lost three trees...the dogs enjoyed the extra wood in the yard...
Retrieving a male Wood Duck at his favorite water hole. Time flies when you have a dog! He is all grown up!

Keeping Jackson and Enzo for the week, plus Chief is coming over for daycare for a few days. Crazy busy.
I heard this hot air balloon before I saw it. I was huffing and puffing up a hiking trail when it appeared above the ridge in the background. By the time I retrieved my camera from my backpack, it was pretty close, and I'd guess about one hundred feet above the ground.
Seen from the Doe Mountain Trail near Sedona, Arizona.

Ah Loch Lomond , one of the biggest loch in Scotland , When we fish there we never know where to start from . It is so vast it would take a lifetime to explore its contour . Ian and I have some good plans , we don’t go fishing , we go catching . Our plan today is to catch a big wild perch ,and to do so we need to go light . Perch do not like to bump into heavy tackle and massive hooks . I fancy my new hto 73 lrf light rock fishing rod , it can only cast 8 grms , or a small little jig .We get up early for this trip , 6am on the beach and preparing for some action . I am in no hurry , today we are sampling the scenery . The loch is flat calm just like glass , plenty cloud cover and light drizzle . First hit is under the pier , the perch follow the light jig , it’s a fat one for Lomond ! A little rub of fish dynamix wand and we keep going to the next bay . Little jack pike are on the menu today , we catch and release .Those jacks are so fiesty making our journey fun . Ian makes great company , always take a friend with you , help is at hand everywhere we go . The next bay is not fishing like we would expect . 3 hours on the water and it’s time for a sandwich . Not far a big fish is swirling around , We sit back on our kayak ,short paddle and a few more cast later my rod bends double . The fish head straight down to the weedy bed . Although all my tackle is super light I know nothing is going to break , I pull some weed out from the line and then the fish is heading close to the kayak . Hand’s in I grab the pike and it’s a good one ! A couple of photo soon after and the fish is released to his freedom . We carry on our journey to the bottom end of the loch , exploring even more .A pike here and a perch there the action continues . And then we are making our way back into some unsettle weather . The wind has picked up ,time to head back to the bays .Then Ian hooked a proper fish on , a clever one heading right under the lilly pad and emptying his spool . I follow his line and eventually reach the monster , I pull the line and retrieve the little jig with no fish attached to it , c’est la vie ! Today we learned how to outsmart the fish using light techniks . Kayak fishing rocks !

The UP job is running light as it heads downhill through a cut to the Rock River past an illegal dumping spot. The train will pick up a gondola at the interchange yard with CP and IR then head up to Loves Park to retrieve an empty tank car from Rock Valley Oil & Chemical.
A little more than a month later a UP train would derail on street trackage on Madison Street on its way to Loves Park.
