In the early 18th century, 47 retainers of Lord Asano took revenge for his death on December 14, died of harakiri and are enshrined at Sengakuji Temple. The festival takes place every 14 December. Rather heavy rain this year, but crowded by many visitors as it was Sunday.

Kawanabe Kyōsai
Ink and light colour on paper
The idea of an ink battle was perhaps inspired by a New Year’s event at the family mansion of the shogun’s retainer, Sōma, where they applied ink on the faces of guests to wish them a safe and healthy year. Here, the rival groups are depicted as medieval courtiers and warriors.
Kyōsai’s contemporaries might have related the image to the battles of the 1860s between the Tokugawa shogunate’s allies and the emperor’s supporters.

Known for his independent spirit, Kawanabe Kyōsai (1831-1889) is among Japan’s most important master painters. Witty, energetic and imaginative, his art continues to influence numerous artistic styles today, from manga to tattoo art.
Overlooked for decades, particularly compared to his earlier counterparts, Hokusai and Hiroshige, Kyōsai is now celebrated for his ability to bridge popular culture and traditional art.
Having initially studied under ukiyo-e artist Kuniyoshi, he combined his subsequent academic training to create his own revolutionary style, creating images from the terrifying and awe-inspiring, to the sweet and endearing.
Drawing from one of the finest collections of the artist’s work in the world, this exhibition brings together highly finished paintings, woodcut prints and illustrated books, as well as impromptu paintings (sekiga) created at sometimes raucous calligraphy and painting parties (shogakai).

12-14c Church of St Vincent, its list of rectors starts in 1186. The tower rebuilt in 1678 still has its 12c door arch. . The nave and chancel were rebuilt in 1795 with a west gallery with fireplace in the north end installed by 6th Baron Monson. In 1507, the Monson family established the family seat at South Carlton and in 1607 Sir Thomas Monson who had acquired most of the land in Burton, established his residence here. The fortunes of the Monson family ebbed and flowed with the political climate and under Cromwell, the Burton estates were sequestrated by the Commonwealth. However his son, Sir John Monson, still had funds in 1651 to provide a covenant of £20 towards the maintenance of 10 Bedeswomen here - the almshouses still remain
In 1728, his grandson John was created Baron Monson of Burton by George II. When John George Monson the 4th Lord died in 1809 his estates were inherited by his son Frederick who was just 9 months old. His mother remarried to the Earl of Warwick and from the age of 10 the 5th Lord was brought up in Warwick Castle. Being a very delicate child and the Lincolnshire climate was considered unsuitable, in 1830 the Trustees sold 12,000 acres of the Lincolnshire estates to fund the purchase of Gatton Hall in Surrey as a more suitable residence when he came of age. In consequence rent from the remaining Lincolnshire land was invested in Gatton, and Burton Hall, the village and the tenanted farms were neglected. In 1841 the parish records show that Burton Hall was occupied by just 2 old retainers,
I don't know what these things are called. They're the tool-less clips that keep the drives attached. Some people knocked them in reviews, but I think they worked well and my drives seemed secure. However, the 5.25 slots only had these retainers on one side. I took one of the extras and put it on this side to make sure the drive is secure.
Damn! Morning of day two and I notice the chain retainer plates loosened and fell off. So much for relying on the dealer in .... to check their work.

Last night I painted my sunglasses cus they were boring and I wanted them to be bright.
This morning I had an orthodontist appointment. My teeth are fine and I just have to keep wearing my retainers. I have a check up in the summer and then I should be completely done and I will never have to go back.
