Miguel de Unamuno, a Spanish philosopher and poet, was exiled here by Diego de Rivera for several months in 1924. The people of the island are proud their ancestors took him in. This plaque says that the Canaries Parliament pays its respects to Fuerteventura for being Unamuno’s “homeland” during his exile.
