In March 2001, the OSU fees committee voted in favor of funding a “Queer Resource Center”. After a intense two hour debate, fueled by letters which appeared in the barometer, with over 300 people in attendance, the 7 member student committee unanimously voted to allot $7,000 towards the resource center.

The name of the proposed center changed from the Queer Resource Center, to The Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender/Questioning Center. The Rainbow Continuum finally settled with the Pride Center to be more politically correct.
