The scarlet minivet (Pericrocotus speciosus) is a small passerine bird. This minivet is found in tropical southern Asia from the Indian subcontinent east to southern China, Indonesia, and the Philippines. They are common resident breeding birds in forests and other well-wooded habitats including gardens, especially in hilly country. While the male of most subspecies are scarlet to orange with black upper parts, the females are usually yellow with greyish olive upper parts

Buxton set BX494 formed of a pair of Derby built Class 108 power cars stabled on the centre roads at the station on 1 August 1987 a further 108 power car and a Rail Blue centre coach stand to the rear along with one of the two Independent Snowploughs that always seemed to be resident here. Having looked at the photo again I did notice the lack of a windscreen wiper on the 108 so I'm guessing it wasn't a runner.

invernantes.

I found out that this pelican has been a resident of the Imperial Beach Fishing Pier for the last 6–7 years. I don't know if that is a tall fishing tale {but I would appreciate it if anyone from IB could weigh in on that assertion to confirm or deny}.
All I know is that I saw him for the first time yesterday ... and then again this morning. I knew it was the same pelican because he favored his right foot. He was quite amenable to being photographed and I got quite close. The close up shots are really good, but I loved this shot the best as it captured the gorgeous morning light streaming down the pier and the distant fisherman. My shot was leached of color for the most part so sliding this right into a black & white was a no-brainer! And most of you know I don't do b&w ... so this is an unusual appearance in my Photostream!!
Happy Sliders Sunday!!
Status
Resident at wetlands throughout Ireland.
Identification
A secretive and skulking species which is more often heard than seen. Can sometimes be seen when it emerges from dense wetland vegetation briefly before disappearing again. A small bird with a rounded rear to its body, which is slender and laterally compressed in order to help it slip through dense vegetation such as reeds. Has a long bill which is red on the adult bird. Legs are long with very long toes which help spread its weight on wet ground. The upperparts are dark brown with black spotting. In the adult the body and 'face' are blue-grey, the flanks and belly are barred black and white and the under-tail coverts (which are easy to see on the cocked tail) are whitish. The juvenile bird is similar to the adult but is whitish underneath (not grey), has a pale bill and a stronger patterning on the head. Has short rounded wings and when flying into cover dangles its legs.
Voice
A distinctive call like a pig squealing coming from dense vegetation is a sure sign that a Water Rail is close by.
Diet
Eats both plant and animal matter. Feeds on land or in shallow water, will some times swim and will even, though rarely, dive. Food includes fish, insects, frogs, seeds and roots.
Breeding
Breeds in emergent vegetation such as marshes and reed beds. Most nesting territories recorded in Britain have a number of common elements:- static or slow moving fresh water, often open mud and invariably tall, emergent vegetation. The vegetation is often tall reeds, sedges, reedmace or rush, but they can also be found in damp field corners. Nest is built close to the ground, near or on water, usually in thick vegetation. Widespread in both inland and coastal areas. Ireland has a great abundance of Water Rail, which is no doubt due to our great number of wetlands.

A bit harsh maybe but if you live in a seaside town you will know just what havoc gulls cause. Many a time, I have seen them swoop down and make off with someone's food or ice cream. I once saw one swallow an entire sausage which was hot! This one wasn't going to move for me to get my shot of Polperro so I made him a feature. Whilst in Looe, a woman sitting next to me, eating a sandwich, got 'hit' good and proper by a gull. It went all over her arm and t-shirt. I am one of those people who carry everything in my bag and was able to assist her with wet wipes. It was so bad I had to help her remove her t-shirt. Luckily she had a sweatshirt around her waist that she could wear
You may notice that this green iguana is not in fact green! She came to The Living Rainforest after being a pet for a number of years. It is common in the pet trade to selectively breed individuals with more desirable traits, and artificially create different colour morphs. This can cause issues within the captive population of the species, as it often involves in-breeding.
The green iguana (Iguana iguana), also known as the American iguana or the common green iguana, is a large, arboreal, mostly herbivorous species of lizard of the genus Iguana. Usually, this animal is simply called the iguana. The green iguana ranges over a large geographic area; it is native from southern Brazil and Paraguay as far north as Mexico, and has been introduced from South America to Puerto Rico and is very common throughout the island, where it is colloquially known as gallina de palo ("bamboo chicken" or "chicken of the tree") and considered an invasive species; in the United States, feral populations also exist in South Florida (including the Florida Keys), Hawaii, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. Green iguanas have also successfully colonised the island of Anguilla, arriving on the island in 1995 after rafting across the Caribbean from Guadeloupe, where they were introduced.
A herbivore, it has adapted significantly with regard to locomotion and osmoregulation (the maintenance of constant osmotic pressure in the fluids of an organism by the control of water and salt concentrations) as a result of its diet. It grows to 1.5 m in length from head to tail, although a few specimens have grown more than 2 m with bodyweights upward of 9.1 kg.
This animal is a resident of The Living Rainforest which is an indoor greenhouse tropical rainforest that is located in Hampstead Norreys in Berkshire, England. It is an ecological centre, educational centre and visitor attraction consisting of three glasshouses, operated and run by the Trust for Sustainable Living. The glasshouses are named Amazonica, Lowlands and Small Islands respectively.
The Living Rainforest has been accredited by the Council for Learning Outside of the Classroom and awarded the LOtC Quality Badge. Each year around 25,000 children visit the Living Rainforest as part of their school's curriculum. It is open 7-days a week from 09:30 to 16:00.
Robert the Bruce - Wetherspoons pub. Dumfries, Scotland.
Dumfries is a market town and former royal burgh in the south of Scotland, located in the region of Dumfries and Galloway. The town is situated on the banks of the River Nith, and has a rich history and cultural heritage.
Dumfries was an important trading centre in medieval times, and played a key role in Scotland's wars of independence. The town's most famous resident was the Scottish poet Robert Burns, who spent the last years of his life in Dumfries and is buried in the local churchyard.
Today, visitors to Dumfries can explore the town's many historic landmarks and attractions. These include the ruins of Dumfries Castle, which dates back to the 13th century and played an important role in Scottish history; the Burns Mausoleum, where Robert Burns is buried; and the Robert Burns Centre, which houses a museum dedicated to the poet's life and works.
Other popular attractions in Dumfries include the Dock Park, a beautiful public park with gardens, play areas, and sports facilities; the Dumfries Museum, which offers a fascinating insight into the history of the town and the wider region; and the Theatre Royal, a restored Victorian theatre that hosts a wide range of performances and events throughout the year.
Dumfries is also a great base for exploring the surrounding countryside, which is home to a wealth of natural beauty, including rolling hills, rugged coastline, and tranquil lochs. Visitors can enjoy a range of outdoor activities, such as hiking, fishing, and cycling, as well as explore the many picturesque villages and towns that dot the landscape.
I consider my Grandad to have sent me this, as the day before i photographed it i had just said to my mum "oh how i wish i could photograph a wild british snake"... and the next day i find this little guy on my patio (which used to be my grandads' house) I gently placed him into one of our small acer trees. It's such a rarity and i am so pleased :)
This is a juvenile british grass snake (Natrix natrix)
Me and my Grandad were as close as anyone could ever get, he would always help me with my art, he was an amazing artist, i hope that he is proud of my photography..

Doctors really go through hell when they are in residency. They spend long hours on call often sleeping at the hospital. They must make quick and life saving decisions and operate even when deeply fatigued. Give them their due.
