Federal Research and Development: Funding Has Grown since 2012 and Is Concentrated within a Few Agencies

Notes: FY 2021 data are estimates provided by federal agencies to the National Science Foundation. Percentages may not add to 100 because of rounding. Excluded is research by foreign research entities and state and local governments because R&D obligations to these research entities were not included in the detailed time series.

The Measurement of a Lepton-Lepton Electroweak Reaction (MOLLER) experiment proposes to measure the parity-violating asymmetry in electron-electron (Møller) scattering. The measurement will be carried out at Jefferson Laboratory's state-of-the-art accelerator by rapidly flipping the longitudinal polarization of electrons that have been accelerated to 11 GeV and observing the resulting fractional difference in the probability of these electrons scattering off atomic electrons in a liquid hydrogen target.

This event is JLab’s version of "Shark Tank" - Quark Tank! SLAM is short-talk competition challenging post-doc contestants to present a compelling 3-minute presentation on their research that a non-specialist can understand.

The winner will be Jefferson Lab's representative that will compete against contestants from the sixteen other national labs on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 15. There, contestants will educate U.S. government policymakers and their staff about the key role our labs play in the nation's innovation ecosystem and their impact on the nation.
