This photo satisfies requirement 1. It is underexposed which makes the walk way pop up. The aperture was set at f/13 to reduce the amount of light that came in and achieve this underexpose effect. However, the ISO was auto adjusted to a high number and thus there are a lot of noises in the picture.

The crystal clear bottle reflects and refracts sunlight, therefore contours its smooth angles and 3D shape. A shallow depth of field is used for blurring effect, which creates a soft and mellow tone for this photo.

This photo satisfies Requirement 2.

I took this photo using a Sony ILCE-7 Viltrox 85mm F1.8 with an aperture of f/2.8, a focal length of 85.0 mm, an exposure time of 1/100, and an ISO of 640.

This is the photo of my friend standing near the backdoor of a storage house. The key light was the light coming through the wide backdoor to the upper right of my friend and there is also light source created by the reflector placed on the ground that became a fill light and lightened up the neck and the area between the lips and the chin of my friends.

I did basic color processing to this image in Lightroom.

I took this photo using a Sony ILCE-7 Viltrox 85mm F1.8 with an aperture of f/2.8, a focal length of 85.0 mm, an exposure time of 1/100, and an ISO of 640.

I made this photo from two photos. One photo was the image of an unknown white flower taken by me and another photo was the photo of my friend (see Requirement 2 of this homework). I first rotated my friend's photo. Then, I chose some available frames to pile up the picture. Each small picture in this photo was processed through some apps on my phone and also through Photoshop. I wanted to create a scene that looks like many versions of my friend in parallel worlds are contemplating at the same time, which caused the space and time to collapse.

Note: I was in Vietnam, which is 14 hours earlier than PST time, so this photo was uploaded on June 1st, 2021 according to PST time.

This photo taken at the Olympic national park satisfies requirements 2. There was a lot of star but no moonlight that night. So in order to get a bright image, i set the aperture to f1.4 and the exposure for 30s. While i set ISO to 800 so that there will not too many noise in this photo. While the shutter speed is 30s, the camera shake will be a great significance. So i set my camera on a tripod and use the sony camera app on IPhone to take the photo so that i prevent the shake and get a good image. I use Lightroom to do the post process by changing the color temperature and increasing saturation, contrast and sharpness. The raw photo was also attached in this album.

This photo satisfies requirement 2. I took it off the bridge next to the E1 parking lot, using an f/8 aperture with a 2 second shutter speed in order to create a blurred motion of only the cars lights as the subject. The ISO was also set to 100 to reduce light and noise so the picture was not over-exposed.

I took this photo in discovery park and satisfies requirement 1 & 3. I put steel wool into a whisk and connected by a rope. And then i rotate the rope. I set my camera to manual control mode so i can control all the settings. I set aperture to f/2.8 because it is pretty dark in the discovery park. And then i set shutter speed to 30s, which gives me a plenty of time to do the light painting. Then i set iso to 125 to get a less noise photo. I did the post process with my iPhone. I used snapseed and vscocam to do the post process by increasing sharpness, contrast and saturation and add purple to the shadow.

The goal of this photo is to showcase the most pure and fundamental tools of a cook and it fulfills REQUIREMENT 1 because it is overexposed to the extent that it is near all white. This photo was taken using a tripod with a plastic cutting board on top of a cream colored lounge chair as the background. A timed shutter was used so that I could pose with both hands in the photo. Because this lens is adapted the aperture data is wrong. The slow shutter speed and aperture (either 2.8 or 4.0 I think) were chosen to lower the ISO and achieve an overexposed look. In post, the photo was converted to b/w and exposure adjustments were made to bring more contrast to the shadows and brighten the highlights further.

Low-tech to high-tech - it all starts with brown paper and post its.

This photo satisfies Requirement 2.

I was using Sony ILCE-7 Viltrox 85mm F1.8 with an aperture of f/1.8, ISO of 1600 (since it was pretty dark and I want to have more lights), focal length of 85.0 mm, and exposure time of 3s to capture the image while standing at a sideways looking up at those buildings.

I did basic cropping and played around with color-processing in Photoshop to this image.

This photo satisfies Requirement 4 because the subject of the photo is a macro shot of a flower. This dead flower caught my attention among the vibrant and alive ones so I got really close and took a macro shot of this flower.

In post I adjusted the exposure to show how blue, sad, and lifeless the flower is. I also cropped the photo tight on the flower for more emphasis.

This photo also satisfies Requirements 1 (foreground focus).

Warangal; (also known as Orugallu and Ekasila Nagaram) is a city and the district headquarters of Warangal district in the Indian state of Telangana. It is located 148 kilometres northeast of the state capital of Hyderabad and for administrative purposes comprises the Warangal, Hanmakonda and Kazipet areas.

The city is known for its heritage and in late 2014 was included in the Government of India's proposed HRIDAY - Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana, along with eleven other Indian cities. A few months earlier, the national government listed it among the 100 proposed smart cities that will be eligible for additional investment to improve urban infrastructure and industrial opportunities.

Warangal is the second-fastest growing city in Telangana state, after Hyderabad. After taking control of 42 gram panchayats, its population has exceeded 1 million and this growth, plus its historical significance, caused the government to authorise the prefer Greater to the name of Warangal Municipal Corporation in early 2015.

Warangal has been chosen as one of the heritage cities for HRIDAY - Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana scheme of Government of India.

ETYMOLOGY

"Oru" in Tamil means 'single' and "Kal" in Tamil is referred as a 'stone'. There is no Telugu equivalent to Oru and Kal. The word "Orugallu" synonyms, one rock, which describes the city was carved out of a single large stone. The word "Ekashilanagaram" is other way of describing the name Orugallu which literally means same as "City Carved Out of Single Stone", used very commonly in the period of kakatiyan empire. As the time went on, orugallu was changed to "Warangallu" and finally settled as Warangal.

HISTORY

Warangal, then known as Oragullu, was the capital of the Kakatiya dynasty from 1195 CE until that ruling family was defeated by the Delhi Sultanate in 1323. The city was then renamed as Sultanpur.

The Kakatiyas left many monuments, including an impressive fortress, four massive stone gateways, the Swayambhu temple dedicated to Shiva, and the Ramappa temple situated near Ramappa Lake. The cultural and administrative distinction of the Kakatiyas was mentioned by Marco Polo. After the defeat of Prataparudra II, the Musunuri Nayaks united 72 Nayak chieftains and captured Warangal from Delhi Sultanate and ruled for fifty years. After the demise of the Nayaks, Warangal was part of the Bahmani Sultanate and then the Sultanate of Golconda.

The Mughal emperor Aurangzeb conquered Golconda in 1687, and it remained part of the Mughal empire until the southern provinces of the empire split away to become the state of Hyderabad in 1724, which included the Telangana region and some parts of Maharashtra and Karnataka. Hyderabad was annexed to India in 1948, and became an Indian state. In 1956 Hyderabad was partitioned as part of the States Reorganization Act, and Telangana, the Telugu-speaking region of Hyderabad state, which includes Warangal, became part of Andhra Pradesh.

GEOGRAPHY

Warangal is located at 18.0°N 79.58°E. It has an average elevation of 302 metres.

It is settled in the eastern part of Deccan Plateau made up of granite rocks and hill formations which left the region barren making the cultivation depend on seasonal rainfalls. There are no river flows nearby warangal, which makes it to rely on Kakatiya Canal which originates from Sriram Sagar Project to meet the drinking water requirements. Located in the semi-arid region of Telangana, Warangal has a predominantly hot and dry climate. Summer starts in March, and peak in May with average high temperatures in the 42 °C range. The monsoon arrives in June and lasts until September with about 550 mm of precipitation. A dry, mild winter starts in October and lasts until early February, when there is little humidity and average temperatures in the 22–23 °C range. Many hill rocks and lakes are settled around warangal. Padmakshi hill and Govinda Rajula Gutta are two famous hills with temples. Bhadrakali and Waddepally are the two famous lakes which adds scenic beauty and also are the major sources of drinking water.

This photo meets requirement 2. I focused on the rapids in the Tolt River with this photo to capture the snowmelt runoff water from the Western Cascade Mountains during this time of year. I manually set the shutter speed to 0.3, giving me the ability to capture motion blur in the rapids. The aperture was set at f/10 to offset the amount of light let in during a longer shutter speed.

This photo satisfies Requirement 2 for Indoor Natural Light Portrait. In this photo, the light source is from the sun coming through the window. The key light comes from the sun reflecting strongly off of white sheets. Fill light comes from the reflecting light off of the walls. I used a long focal length (66mm) for a flattering photograph, and a fast shutter speed (1/125 sec) to reduce camera shake. The wide aperture keeps the subject in focus while blurring the background (a very colorful painting my wife made).

This photo is taken for requirement 2 and all vertical lines are parallel to each other because I took this photo by looking straight ahead. I took this photo with 35mm, f/5.0 because I was standing on the other side of the road and I hoped to get as close as I can. Since this photo is taken outdoors, I used ISO100 to keep best quality.

I stood there for a couple of minutes until I can shot someone walked past by right in the middle of the gap between two buildings. I also used selected color this time and I chose to make the man "colored". In this way, it really makes a strong contrast of the cold buildings and the man.

This photo primarily satisfies requirement 1, but also satisfies requirement 5. I took this at a pond upside down and manually decreased the ISO to 80 and the shutter speed to 1/400th of a second. This caused the part of the picture that was not in the pond to remain bright, but the pond portion to become very dark, giving the illusion of a night sky. Because the grass area around the pond is doubled, it is also hard to see where the horizon line is, breaking the normal rules of composition. In lightroom I then increased the whites level to give greater contrast between the normal ground and the image created by the pond.

This photo taken near UW Quad that fulfills requirements 2 and 4. I still used the small aperture and Aperture Priority Mode. The pink flower is main subject I want to take, and other elements, including the background and the stem and the leaf of the flower are a little blurry.

This photo fulfils requirement 3 - bugs. The spiders two front limbs lifted gives the impression it's waiting for prey before it strikes. With its pale exoskeleton it's perfectly camouflaged against the plant head it clinging onto. I chose this photo because it makes something a small as this spider look threatening. Showing this much detail brings out just how effective predators they are. I took this photo with a A7iii and a 55mm with 26mm of lens extenders. I had the camera in aperture priority and closed it to f/8.0 to get the whole scene in focus. To minimise camera shake, I increase the ISO to 640 to make the camera increase the shutter speed. To ensure I hit the correct focus, I used auto-focus continuous and object tracking.

In post process, I brought the highlights down and increased the clarity to make the spider stand out from the head of the plant. I also rotated the image to make the spider face more towards the viewer.

This photo satisfies requirement 1. I drove to the woods near my house and shot this photo at the beginning of the trail where more light from the moon and some street lights was hitting the trees and hillside. I used a shutter speed of 15 seconds after realizing that any lower was not capturing enough light, but any higher made it seem like less of a nighttime photo. I used a cement pillar to stabilize and hold my camera so that there would be no motion blur. I found it interesting how the photo has a soft look after exposing for 15 seconds. To the naked eye I could barely tell what I was photographing due to the lack of light and had to reframe the photo many times to get it right. I wanted to capture the gradient of light with the inner woods darker and the edge of the woods lighter including the sky which ended up much brighter than I thought it would.

This photo was taken by manual mode: shutter speed is 2s, aperture is F/5, ISO 100. I took this picture at my home through the glass window. In night, there is traffic light and some cars in the road. I used the manual focus and lowest ISO to achieve out of focus elements, the 2-second exposure just to achieve the car's continuous out-of-focus trajectory.

Abu Dhabi, 12 May, 2013: In recognition of World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD), the International Fund for Houbara Conservation (IFHC), in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC), hosted grade 5 and grade 9 students from Al Sariyah, Al Foaa, Sweihan and Abdulla Bin Rawaha schools at the National Avian Research Centre (NARC) in Sweihan.

Students explored the Houbara, a bird at the centre of local culture and tradition, its migratory patterns and the international efforts IFHC is engaged in to restore sustainable, wild populations of this endangered bird. Each Student team presented their findings to ADEC and IFHC staff today.

This year’s theme for WMBD is that migratory birds require a network of sites if they are to prosper and the Director General of IFHC, Mohammed Saleh Al Baidani, said: “As one of the world’s major conservation projects, IFHC epitomises the requirement to work globally to preserve this endangered species. Today we are actively participating in WMBD by helping to raise awareness of the network of sites across many countries needed to support migrant birds. Our continued commitment to our leaders’ strategy to restore wild populations of the Houbara across its range countries – from North East Asia to the Arabian Peninsula - is ensuring a bright future for migrant birds.”

Dr. Karima Matar Al Mazroui, Curriculum Division Manager at ADEC said: “The indigenous Houbara bird is an evocative theme for students to learn about as part of our national heritage. IFHC is also using cutting-edge science in its efforts to rescue the Houbara from possible extinction. We have worked in partnership with IFHC for the past two years to integrate the Houbara into the curriculum which is helping students develop the key skills of the 21st Century skills: Creativity and Innovation, Communication, Collaboration and Critical Thinking.”

The fact that school children were chosen for today’s celebration reflects IFHC’s long-term strategy for preserving the Houbara. Al Baidani added: “The outlook for the Houbara is not only dependant on the work IFHC is doing today, but also upon sustained future effort. By raising awareness and educating future generations on the importance of conserving the endangered bird we provide the Houbara with a better chance of survival.”

At the event the school children witnessed a release of Houbara into the wild with a full explanation by ecologists of the process. They were also shown presentations about the Houbara, which included information about the migration of the Houbara bustard. The event was staged with the assistance of Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) and is part of IFHC’s education programme, which is being integrated across schools in Abu Dhabi.

This initiative is part of ADEC’s mission to create a student-centred learning process, which promotes team work skills as well as “applied knowledge” and “hands on experience,” explained Dr. Al Mazroui, who added that ADEC has included various projects to its science curriculum in efforts to encourage students to take part in fun educational experiences through inquiry.

“Students enjoy finding information and working together as a team, which helps enhance their research skills as well as giving them more exposure to their environment. Field visits encourage students to share roles and tasks, give them more confidence while they present their findings to their classmates and help them indulge in creative activities such as short film making, writing and creating digital presentations,” concluded Dr. Al Mazroui.

The Asian Houbara can migrate distances of more than 4,000km each year searching for breeding sites, plentiful supplies of food and for warmer climates once their Asian breeding grounds become too cold. Ecologists from IFHC have been monitoring the migration of the Houbara since 1991 through satellite tracking. The findings from this research have provided invaluable data about this shy bird’s habits and enabled IFHC to develop its world-leading breeding and release programme.

I took this photo with my Canon EOS Rebel T6 to fulfill Requirement 2. I stood outside of Denny Hall and made sure all of the lines on the windows pointed vertically, parallel to one another. Once I made sure of that, I set the aperture a little lower but still pretty high to f/8.0, and the ISO to 100 to keep there from being any noise. I set the shutter speed high to better the exposure because there was a lot of light.

Afterwards, I altered the contrast and exposure with Lightroom to make the colors stand out more.

This photo satisfies requirement 4. I use the wrong white balance to make the sky brighter and show the whole picture of downtown.

This picture I took of an apartment complex in downtown Tacoma. I zoom in a little bit to remove the vanishing point. In posy, I increase the saturation and make the blue in the sky a lighter blue to balance out all the colors from the apartment. That is also why I leave a little bit of the background in the picture. I didn't want it to be ”too much” for the picture.

This photo was taken a couple hours before sunset. I wanted to try to make a photo taken during the day look like night. I underexposed and set the white balance to 3200 to give it a cooler night feel. In Lightroom, I made cuts to the highlights slider to get the glare of the sun more focused into a ball to look more like a very bright moon and raised the shadows slider to better make out the clouds. Taken at Carkeek Park.

Participants respond to a made-up emergency — a lost radioactive source combined with a flood in lower Austria — during the IAEA’s first-ever course on preparedness and response to a nuclear or radiological emergency combined with other emergencies. During the one-week course, participants learned about specific requirements response professionals should meet to effectively respond to such combined emergencies.

This photo was also taken for the requirement 2 and 5. It was almost the same to the pictures before but more brighter than them. Since the sunlight covered more places when I walked toward the hotel. I controlled the sharpness in order to give more details of the trees.

I used a 135mm lens for this photo, and then stood close to a cluster of branches and leaves so that my lens couldn't focus on them at all. I also pointed in the direction of the sun, which is where the dark shadows came from. I also set the shutter speed to 1/2500 so that I would capture a bit of the blur from the wind moving the leaves, but not enough to completely smear the photo. The photo is edited to bring out the purples and a bit of a boost on the green, but otherwise is untouched.

This satisfies requirement three because nothing is in focus. I did this because the blur brings out more colors and light spots than a focused photo, and so this becomes a more abstract color-focused image rather than subject-focused.

This photo is taken for requirement 5 with f/2.8 and ISO 800. I took this photo in my room so I chose a high ISO to get a fast shutter speed. It is the back of a watch. I found the cold metal and the components in the watch very fascinating. I tried create a sense of coldness so I make the photos into B&W. With the macro lens, I can see the details more clearly. I also did some lighting with my table lamp to create the feelings I want.

HMS WESTMINSTER REPLENISHES AT THE START OF THE NEW YEAR

Only days into the start of 2014, there was a requirement for HMS Westminster to fill up not only her own fuel tanks, but also the Lynx Mk 8 helicopter's tanks as well. Since Leaving the Seychelles after the Christmas period, HMS Westminster has conducted a number of assurance visits on various fishing vessels, which through flying sorties and sailing around her patrol areas, this in turn took a knock on effect on her fuel supplies. During the 2 and a half hour replenishment with the United States Naval Supply Ship Arctic, HMS Westminster replenished her thirsty tanks to maximum capacity in order to continue her patrols of the Indian Ocean.

HMS Westminster is conducting counter narcotics and counter piracy patrols in and around the Indian Ocean and is due to return to the Uk at the end of February.

If anyone has some free time and feels like giving some input, I am debating whether or not to enter in an exhibit.

If you feel like checking out this set, let me know which ones are of good enough quality and are your favorites. Thanks! If there is another in my photostream that is a better choice than the ones in the set below, please suggest.

The requirement is that there must be plant material in the photograph.

The categories that I was contemplating are for:

Closeup of a flower or plant

"Seasons" collection landscape

Stone Washed - a photo incorporating water and flowers

This photo satisfy requirement 1. I "froze" his action at throwing the ball. I thought his pose was... interesting. From the top, his hand movements reminded me of setting in volleyball; from the bottom, his legs reminded me of a mix between a ballerina in pointe and a girl getting kissed from a cliché screen in a romance movie. The camera setting is the same from the previous image where I took it on burst mode.
